Tafi = DAZ3D/DAZ Studio
Bondware = Renderosity/Poser
Yep - I was referring to Poser's previous owner, Smith Micro. SM and Tafi are very much alike in that they wring money out of a digital property until it is no longer profitable. Like Corel, it's what they do (except that Corel Alludo runs a digital graveyard in addition).
Bondware (originally a third-rate B2C web software company that used Renderosity to showcase its website product) bought what was left of Poser out of a sense of survival for itself; I doubt they manage to keep Poser alive for too much longer, but kudos for the attempt, I guess...

There's still dozens of sites that make stuff for Poser. A lot of them are like time capsules, still stuck in 1998, but they seem to be alive. That's something that Studio never enjoyed.
True, but those sites are, as mentioned, from a different era. Poser survived the dot-bust due to hobbyists. DAZ Studio came up later on, and in a different time.
DS tried to capture that sense of community and hobbyist tinkering spirit, but the file format doesn't really permit it like the Poser files did (nearly all Poser content files can be hacked on with just a text editor. .duf files, not so much.)
