Just a couple of points:
There are tags, including G3, G8, Female, etc. But it they aren't used correctly and consistently, they become less valuable. It's up to the uploader to tag correctly and this is a pretty chill place. Doubt they'll crack down on incorrect/incomplete tagging. Nor should they.
V4 stuff can still be used and useful. This is especially true if someone imports it into blender or another editing app and brings it up to date for their own uses. There's still tons of stuff out there for V4 (though almost no new stuff to speak of that I've seen). All of it was designed to be used in Poser. If you're still using Poser (for some crazy reason o_0 ), then V4 items are extremely useful.
Personally, I'm now almost exclusively using G8 for people. Still use older G3-era stuff for environs, clothes and poses (but only until G8 catches up in those areas). So, to me, G3 is now becoming obsolete. But I would be considered crazy to want to assign G3 content to the dustbin of this site. Live and let live I say.
July 20, 2018 at 1:17 PM #685309Ah, @ulysses brings up a good point, tagging products when uploading can be very effective and handy. Personally anything I upload I tag the figure it's for, "G3F, G8F" etc, so a search with those keywords will bring those items up even though it may not be mentioned in the product title. Whether other uploaders do the same is up to them though so as an established system it's going to be hit and miss. It's a shame you can't see the keywords used on each post.
July 20, 2018 at 2:05 PM #685352No point to rely on tags because you could just make a category that require you to choose G3/G8 or V4
July 20, 2018 at 2:10 PM #685359a free site and people still expect to be spoon fed
July 20, 2018 at 3:38 PM #685437I don’t particularly care, tbh. There’s still some great content from Genesis and earlier that are still amazing. And there’s nothing stopping people from updating these items to fit newer figures in programs like Blender, either. Not to mention some NLA stuff is worth preserving, as not everything from YURDigital and RDNA made it to Daz/Rendo/HW. That’s just the preservationist in me tho.
Besides that, I personally search by specific titles of items, so categories are a moot point for me. :T
July 20, 2018 at 10:17 PM #685766@para Right?
honestly, doesn't matter which site I go to to look at figures. Daz, RO, Rotica, doesn't matter. None of them are perfect in the search department. Type in G3M or Genesis 3 male, you get G3 FEMALE as well as other stuff and even other Gens. NEVER strictly what category ones searching in/for. Ahhh.. Reality..
I don't use a lot of V/M 3 or 4 stuff, however, although I admit it can get a bit, "annoyingish" depending on my mood 😉 at times, but if the older stuff wasn't being uploaded, then the content posts would be REALLY SLOW and BARE!
And some people are completely new to DAZ/Poser.
My peeve is users posting, people, clothes, props etc., in the wrong category when they upload. Thats just about not paying attention and is on the uploader.
But its all free and I'm grateful for all the posts, comments, forums, content, users, admins, contests.
July 21, 2018 at 4:04 AM #685989so many think that sites like this should just be all about me and about what I want. Guess what, its not. Renderosity search is far worse, their categories bring up stuff not completely relevant to what you are searching for and you are paying for the stuff. Same with daz and all the other sites we buy from. Get over it, stop being so self entitled, life is not all about you and what you want. Be grateful that you do have somewhere that you get something for nothing that others have purchased. My sympathy for sooks and whingers is non existent. Of course you could always make another copy cat site, leeching stuff from here and do it exactly how you want it. But you will still find some one whinging about something
July 21, 2018 at 4:18 AM #685998Interesting how people can get all butt hurt from simple suggestions to improve things. You'd think that there would be a section for such thing if owners really wanted user feedback... oh wait, there is. How could the owner and mods be so careless as to create such a section if they didnt want to hear feedback/input?
July 21, 2018 at 10:06 AM #686316I agree with D0GG0D. Very sad to see people going crazy over a simple suggestion.
July 21, 2018 at 12:14 PM #686435Okay, let's talk about practicality, how would you implement a generation categorisation of the entire site? Would you only implement it for new items so that it adds a few checkboxes to the new uploads screen? Or would you want the entire back catalogue of items categorised as well? Over 20,000 blog posts that would need to be pawed through and tagged. Then while we're at it, is there any other tags we want to add so we don't have to go through the entire site again? What about mistakes? Wrongly tagged articles missing from your searches and turning up in other searches that aren't desired.
My view on the whole thing is, in a perfect world it would already be in place and I could search for whatever category interested me and find things I never knew existed. But as the site stands right now, we can search for what we need, utilising the vendor sites as our search and reference repository. Implementing a new system and going through the entire back catalogue is a lot of trouble for very little reward. Yes it would be nice to have but it's not essential and would require a lot of man hours to implement.
July 21, 2018 at 12:22 PM #686445I think, if any tweaks are deemed necessary, & I am not entirely convinced that they are, it should be just new content going forward.
🙂
July 21, 2018 at 1:32 PM #686499@Tootsie, you're not surprised, are you? lol
July 21, 2018 at 1:39 PM #686506Genesis 3 and Genesis 8 are my go to models for things, but there is a TON of useful older stuff that simply should not be erased. I'm okay with this, honestly. I have my own database app that I keep track of my own stuff. Like Tootsie stated, all the paying sights have crappy search engines and those sites we should complain to. While it is a suggestion, I don't know if I would squeeze to hard on the administrators of a site where I can get stuff for free. I do think they have a feedback forum, so I'm sure they will consider our suggestions, but we also do not know how much work is involved in re-coding the search feature. Just my two cents.

I am a little curious as to how Rendo and Daz searches are broken? If I search for say, a specific keyword such as uniform, and then use the drop downs on either system to edit that criteria to include only G3F and G8F, I am then presented with only those items that contain the word Uniform and are made for g3f and g8f. I have found both of those sites to be fairly robust in their search and exclusion criteria and have yet to be presented with something outside my criteria settings. That said, Rendo's general categorization sucks totally. Like the vendors don't even bother on that end.
July 21, 2018 at 5:39 PM #686733@123sheep123 Original post, verbatim.
I’m tired of the V4 and M4 stuff that is flooding this site and one of the reasons I barley upload stuff here anymore.
Interesting how people can get all butt hurt from simple suggestions to improve things
@123sheep123
Very sad to see people going crazy over a simple suggestion.
Lets keep it real and not turn it back around onto those of us who replied in response to the original post, shall we?!
The Subject line of the post and the 2nd sentence alone, were a simple suggestion. However, The 1st line as quoted above, pretty much negates the rest of the content and takes it from a simple suggestion to a personal tantrum outburst. ie., Someone being butthurt. So it went beyond feedback and suggestion.
Nobody has done anything wrong by posting V4 and M4 items. (you may want to note that Tomsk has posted a ton of V4/M4).
