February 7, 2018 at 12:51 PM #487292@coolcat this came up in my newsfeed today and I immediately thought of your wife
February 7, 2018 at 1:05 PM #487305That is neat I'll have to show that to my wife she will probably cringe just looking at it. lol 🙂
February 7, 2018 at 1:07 PM #487307LOL!
When I was deployed in Saudi, we encountered Camel Spiders on an everyday basis. Camel Spiders are also about as big as your hand. They scared the sh*t out of people though, because they would run at you and seemingly chase you.
One day, however, I was standing about 20 feet from my aircraft and one of them started running from my jet toward me. I backed off and it ran back to the jet. I came closer and it seemed to once again pursue me, so I backed off again and he circled back to the jet. That's when it hit me. They aren't attacking, they trying to get from one place to another by seeking shaded areas!

what base in Saudi....Riyadh?February 7, 2018 at 1:47 PM #487341I'm glad I live on the west coast now cause I grew up with Funnel Webs and those motherfuckers are terrifying! *shudder*
February 7, 2018 at 1:49 PM #487344@3danimenut101 King Aziz Airbase in Dhahran. Stayed at the Khobar Towers. Missed the truck bomb by a month; I was actually staying in the building that took the brunt.
February 7, 2018 at 2:00 PM #487360@nemain funnel webs would bother me as well. I am west coast so never had to put up with them. Redbacks are much easier to find

for 6 weeks, liaison/instructor long range precision marksmanship, getting the greenies in shape...Retired right after that, 22 years was enough for me.February 7, 2018 at 2:42 PM #487403I figured you for a lifer for some reason. 22 years! Once again, thank you for giving so much of yourself in service to your country!
Yeah, all combined I did about a year over there in Saudi, four 90 day rotations. 12 hours on and 12 hours off with one day off for each rotation to go drinking in Bahrain (alcohol consumption is illegal with severe punishment in Saudi).
February 7, 2018 at 3:09 PM #487434would do it all again anytime, well if i was still able to run and gun like back then, i'm tried just looking at a set of stairs now....lol
never understood that illegal consumption law in Saudi, the guys on base sure had a few choice words about though...that's one hike over the trail all the way to Bahrain just for a cold one, but i remember those days, nothing like a smoke filled bar and a cold beer to de-stress.February 9, 2018 at 3:36 PM #489679It's my dream to visit Melbourne.. someone very special to me lives there. She's always telling me to come, but it looks like she'll be coming stateside, first.
