I use 'Telegram' to backup all my DAZ assets. I have created category channels for each type of asset. Possibly this platform can be used. Unlimited uploads.
February 1, 2023 at 3:02 PM #1921441as in the messaging app?
got over 4 TB, would be nice to have a backup space 🙂February 1, 2023 at 3:06 PM #1921442Maybe some sort of "sticky thread" where trusted users will share torrents/links, downloading random torrents - high security risks
February 1, 2023 at 3:10 PM #1921444Idea is good, but who qualifies as a "trusted user". Sure some people know each other here, but what about the new commers, how do they get hold of files in this case?
Tors are just as risky as a download, that's why the invented virus scanners 😉February 1, 2023 at 3:21 PM #1921446I may end up begging off of that option, because my bandwidth is limited (but I am on the Starlink waiting list!), and also because I use my real name and info on Discord for other real-life stuff.
that said, I do use torrents on occasion, though mostly for smaller and more targeted items (Deluge is a basic-betty client, but it does the job quite well, so I'll stick with it.)

I am downloading...
I am showing 2 seeds, but no bits inbound... I am stuck at 73%I pay for a fiber optic 1 gig connection, though I usually connect at around 600mbs through the VPN.
With a lot of seeders, I've gotten up to 30mbs on a download... normally, though with 1-3 seeders I crawl though it.... sigh.I'll seed for a couple months at least on the Victorian test bed...
February 1, 2023 at 5:57 PM #1921505@Redflag OK
I'm blessed with glass, but VPN slows things down I am afraid. saw upspeeds of 1.5MB, so can not complain I guess
I can still remember kazaa, and downloading with 2 to3 Kb/sec....
Man, those were the days 🙂February 1, 2023 at 6:14 PM #1921507Transmission: Open-source, very lean/lightweight, simple interface - Works on Linux, Windows and Mac.

I completed... I'll keep seeding... I am uploading at about 1.5 mbs right now
(I am in central Europe)February 2, 2023 at 3:03 AM #1921623I've been a member of plenty of tightly knit torrent sites, and am still on a few sites that are amazing but hard to get into, the only down side to that is that after a very short while with out a method to get new valid members in the flow of good new content really stagnates. I myself joined and just leeched for quite some time before posting the few shares I have. An invite system is what I see a lot for those exclusive sites but if you don't know someone already in its a bummer. If it were to switch to private torrents then something like open enrolment can be set for a certain period of time, and then you must maintain a certain ratio or be disabled, and if you reach a certain share level ( number of shares or seeding ratio) that gives you different benefits such as awards of invites to the site.. I'm pretty much just spouting off how empornium does things now...
February 2, 2023 at 3:25 AM #1921627I'm not opposed to torrents. However one of the issues with the takedown requests hindering downloads here is that many people only post 1 or 2 download links. Ever since I've started posting 5 or 6 download links for my files, I've never had an issue with files not being available. If you only use a Mega link, the file won't stay up long.
February 2, 2023 at 4:05 AM #1921638Hmmmm... that might be the simplest solution @Bavor. I think the stuff being targeted are the recent releases and I can kind of understand that from the producer's POV, even if they've ripped it off from somewhere else themselves (Renderhub) LOL.
Perhaps we're creating the takedown problem ourselves by being a bit greedy 😮. I'd say 95% of their sales occur in the first two weeks... after that we can have thunderdome. Personally I wouldn't mind waiting for a couple of weeks for them to make some money out of their stuff first.February 2, 2023 at 4:55 AM #1921644I belonged to a private torrent site from 2009 until 2 years ago. After awhile the contributions went down, the seeders became fewer, and it was always either up to me or the site's owner to reseed. I was going to take over as the owner became extremely ill, but wound up having surgery and when I came up for air three months later decided to walk away. It was a lot of work maintaining seeds, and now that I share bandwidth with my work computer it would be even more difficult as I'd have to throttle during my work hours in the central USA. Right after I left, the owner abandoned it and it went down.
However, if we go to torrenting so be it. I noticed rosity hit us hard today. I have things I'd like to share, but now I'm waiting for them to rein it in a little. I use qbitorrent. I belong to a small rural ISP and they don't give a rat's behind about file-sharing.
If there's an invite code to discord I'd like one. @anjabear could you pm it to me?I've got 23 years worth of goodies, some of it pirated, some of it purchased and for years I collected every free item I could get my hands on. I even have a Zygote file. It likely won't run, but I have it. I have several terabytes of stuff housed on a 11 tb external drive, a lot of it organized. The past two years I've just been dumping in one folder so I would need to get off my butt and get it in order.
As for 3DUK and co go, I think his stuff looks like garbage and I don't see the attraction. Why would anyone bother with this idiot? The textures are flat and the clothing looks like plastic. Even the old stuff from The 3D Comic Collective looked a lot better, and it was designed for Dork and Posette!
Anyway, that's my senior citizen rant for the night.
