This is a site based off sharing.
Pirating anything is based off sharing.
People dont mind downloading $100,000 worth of content but they dont want to share?Anything not posted publicly by the original bounty filler should be posted publicly.
If you want to turn this into a backdoor trading site or a pay site then just do it and get it over with.
Ive suggested multiple ways to improve the site over a few years and anyone thats been here over that time should recall most of them.
When backdoor trading and all this stupidity started I stopped posting content. If the site goes back to SHARING and people rather than points become a priority then Ill start posting again.
May 13, 2022 at 3:08 PM #1807708E, is not ideal, admittedly. It is, however, the only choice provided without imposed rules/timeframes for how sharing is done. I am fine with the system how it is now...with the exception of the expectation of posting to the blog regarding requests. If rules become imposed, requests won't be filled. Not by me, at least. I am sure others will feel the same.
May 13, 2022 at 3:15 PM #1807709D: I agree with Warrant as well
When I first noticed requests not to share, I was like "Gasp... but why Billy?" But I realized the reasoning for it... as I too have high regards for artists still taking the time to create Genesis content for the marketplaces (regardless with how sketchy some marketplaces may be), rather than going full Blendr or UE. So I'm compliant and try not to cannibalize artists good content for a reasonable amount of time, to ensure they create more. On the other hand, sharing helps build solidarity here and it's nice to contribute.
However, I AM weary of content posted here showing up on less secure sites using the same links, leading to those links being found and shutdown. That is my other reason for holding off posting, because I do not want to be bothered finding new hosts for dmca'ed content, only for it to keep showing up elsewhere to be found.
So I think I'm more in favor of finding a way for ZG to hide the links/hosts after "Download" is selected, so it can't be posted elsewhere... just as a security concern to prevent the dmca ninjas from finding our um... stash. Now if someone wants to take that content and find a separate host/link for that other site, go right on a head... as long as it doesn't "link" here 😉
May 13, 2022 at 3:34 PM #1807713@warrant63: Agree and understood. All fine. The idea of the Bundle/Mega Bundle for exclusive club sorta thing sounds like a possible one to me. I don't know if it could be a good idea though...
@mxyzptlk: Maybe an unpopular opinion but I think the same at some points. There are people whose shares are reuploads only and never buy a single product. I know I haven't shared in a while (and have my reasons) but you can see I filled several items in the past so... at least I bought and use my own money. Some people really are only leeching. How to avoid? I dont know and I think it's not possible.
@D0gg0d: Backdoor trading exists, will exist and existed the single moment users are interacting each other in a place but not here, in every single CG forum you can think of. Other thing is that people started to do it more and some people noticed it more but it's impossible to control it. When I was sharing I know inner circles existed here as it's the common thing in every pirate forum."People dont mind downloading $100,000 worth of content but they dont want to share?"
True. And they don't buy anything neither in terms of sharing. IMO what @mxyzptlk said is what I think when he talked about how sharing works. You scratch my back and I will scratch yours. You are not scratching my back, no worries I won't scratch yours neither. Pirating is about help each other not about leeching everything you can when you're no giving anything in exchange. But that's probably me.
May 13, 2022 at 4:26 PM #1807739There's a difference between it existing and encouraging it.
Interesting since what little I know of KAT people posted tons of stuff there for nothing more than a name attached. What do people get in return for the millions of music, movies and books posted online?
--------------------------------------------------------
I've suggested an alternate section for people that post content and letting those download the same day. Then a few weeks later letting the item go public. This way people that actually share get rewarded early for sharing and eventually everyone benefits. It would encourage people to post to get content early. If nothing went public then do you consider this a good site? Delete everything and make content only accessible through request and private trading of points. As my Aunt would say, "Crap or get off the pot". Make up your mind. Do you want a share site or a trade site. Do you want everyone to enjoy the content or a few? I doubt this is the go-to site for content because people want to be stingy. That seemed to be the philosophy of a few people twisting the site to their whims.
I literally have more content than I will ever reasonably need. 90 percent of what I download gets stored and will never be used. I pay bounties on the content I really want and MIGHT use.
Should I pay for something that is nothing more than HD space? I'm willing to bet that most if not everyone here doesn't and won't use everything they download.May 13, 2022 at 4:29 PM #1807740Use our rank to provide access to content. 6 and above get access to all new content immediately and access to private shares area. 3 and above get access to all new content within a week. 2's get access after 2 weeks and 1's get it after a month. If a sharer wants to share with everyone earlier, they can.
Anything that encourages more folks to share more stuff is good. Anything that discourages more sharing is bad. I know that many once-good sharers have stopped due to various reasons, most of them mentioned above. As I've posted before, sharers are the life blood of this site. Don't do things that make them less willing to share.
Edit to add: @hunter is the best. If it makes his job harder, then I'm against it. He keeps all this going and is the most level-headed dude we got.
May 13, 2022 at 7:45 PM #1807823Option F for me. Which means I don't care.
Whatever changes are made we're still going to get members griping so we're back to square one.
All the suggested changes won't-solve-anything.May 13, 2022 at 11:26 PM #1807891I guess I'm between D and E, with caveats. I fully support a bit of social pressure to get shared items posted to the blog quickly. But I dislike a "rule" that encourages members to post items without talking to the original sharer.
When it comes down to it, we're not talking about "rules." We're talking about best practices, guidelines, and the spirit of sharing.
To anyone here who hasn't themselves posted to the blog before: I have a few R*nderH*b items that I will freely share with you that you can post to the blog as an experiment. Warning that the links will be reported and removed (by the vendor) within days (if not hours) and if you're not careful your R*nderH*b, F*render, R*nder*sity, and Mega accounts will be permanently blocked.
I suspect many members don't realize how frustrating it is to post certain items to the blog. 🙂
May 14, 2022 at 2:22 AM #1807910Ive had one mega account blocked and one store blocked.
Has to be some way around this. Other sites seem to be able to keep some stuff up fairly long
May 14, 2022 at 3:30 AM #1807931I think the current guideline isn't bad, but my main problem is ADHD brain - time is meaningless and I forget stuff constantly. A week and a month can feel the same to me but the longer it is the more likely I am to forget to do it. I try to share everything I can and repost stuff I find elsewhere to fix dead links.
I'd like the idea of a buying club, even if just to take advantage of Prime and Daz+ without everyone having to pay for it, but I suspect it'd get started and fade off quickly.
May 14, 2022 at 5:33 AM #1807963If you're not using a VPN/Tor and burner Mega accounts, you're not using best practices for piracy in general. There should be absolutely zero way for a product to be traced back to the person who purchased it, unless it is *so* old/obscure and niche that there's only been one sale in a reasonable amount of time around when you bought it. (don't upload it as soon as you buy it, again, best practices.)
I also like the idea of group buys for more expensive assets at least; having some people willing to chip in some actual bucks to get a big bundle or big ticket asset can, at the very least, offset the cost enough for someone who's on the fence about buying it to begin with.
May 14, 2022 at 5:45 AM #1807965In the past I have been given content to upload because they didnt want it traced to them.
In the past Ive given out content to upload because I didnt want it traced to me.
Its my understanding that MODs are regularly given content to share. If a person creates an upload link they can send it to a mod to release publicly after a period of time.
If a MOD spends points on a bounty and the item isnt uploaded after a certain time then perhaps the MOD should post it.
I was always under the impression that mods approved every link that is posted publicly. So I am confused as to why they have points totals when everything should be free to them. unlimited points should be a MOD perk.
May 14, 2022 at 8:18 AM #1808022Mona @Wflg-Gm, yes of course. I've not personally lost any non-burner accounts. But I know of two members who have recently had their store accounts shut down after posting. I'm just expressing that there is some extra work behind the scenes to put stuff up and keep it up on the blog. I suspect some folks don't realize that.
ADAM @D0gg0d, the mods are aware that the links get reported etc. I know AnjaBear was recently trying to work on some solutions. Part of the problem is that the vendors know that this is the primary source of the shares, so we are the target. Some well known vendors have active accounts here that even post comments! Point is -- some of us keep things in a small circle not for point farming, but simply to avoid the extreme hassle of reupping links every day.
May 14, 2022 at 9:00 AM #1808030A or B.
Personally, I go with a week after I buy something that has been requested. Anymore than that and I might just forget to upload it to the blog since I don't do the scheduled upload option.
May 14, 2022 at 3:24 PM #1808191at one time I use to care my uploads went to 20 other sites besides this one.
I went as far as to including ZONEGFX messages in the readme and instruction files.
I even edited character thumbnails on a few.
Some cases I added a small random file to track my post.Eventually I came to the conclusion that it isn't about the site. When I was on KAT I included my name sometimes but never cared about where the file ended up. I felt like I was paying the community back for sharing with me. People would upload software that cost more than I made in a month. Some places I go I can download entire seasons of a program or the entire library of music from an band. I've yet to have anyone demand that I pay them or owe them anything.
I could easily come here and download a few things a day and leave. I stepped away from Daz for several years and came back. There are at least a handful of sites I could visit and get almost everything here for 0 points and 0 hassle. I come here because this is one of the few communities I felt invested in. The way people come together for a contest or try to find old content for people is great. Unfortunately some people would come in and want to restructure a helpful carefree community to a uncaring secretive group that would rather horde phantom money and feed the masses table scraps.
Call it my opinion. Call it whining. Call it pessimistic. It doesnt remove skin from my bones or destroy my already bleak outlook on life but, it doesnt really do anyone else any favors.
So long as one person is seeding a torrent there is hope, Once the seed reaches 0 then you've got an incomplete worthless file.I doubt most of the people here have come close to repaying what they have taken and some have given way more that any other will give. If you're keeping score dont use points as a reference. Some people give content away for free or have posted without the need for a bounty.
Im off to take a shower and relax.
Please feel free to enter the contest in the contest section. Several people have generously donated points to see what art you can make from the content provided here. It would be nice to see what all these opinions can produce.
