So I see Daz has put up a so-called "Stand With Ukraine Bundle". Apart from the fact that none of the items are remotely associated with Ukraine, every hint of political discussion on their forums is immediately locked, but not this overtly political/woke move by Daz.
If the money raised from the sale of the bundle went to supporting refugees or fund military hardware for Ukraine one might be forgiving but to me it's merely a cynical attempt to commercialise the conflict - profit from it.
Well done Daz, you've made the last tinges of guilt I ever had with pirating Daz products evaporate forthwith and forever with this act of commercial bastardry.April 4, 2022 at 7:36 AM #1791771Well, the items have something to do with the Ukraine. They have sunflower in their bundle. And sunflower is one product what Ukraine export or rather they manufacture sunflower oil. And I have seen some yellow and blue colors.
But I see this also, that the money flows into their own pockets.April 4, 2022 at 9:37 AM #1791808Daz is donating 100% of the proceeds from this bundle to CARE (care.org). Only until the end of April though, so... could do a lot better.
April 4, 2022 at 1:27 PM #1791890That bandwagon is awful big, isn't it? It has to be for everyone to cash in on it.
April 4, 2022 at 7:47 PM #1792054It doesn't come as any big surprise to me; no matter what the crisis of the moment happens to be, everything is being turned into a grift or an opportunity to virtue signal; particularly in the past couple of years.
I can't bear bandwagoning in general, whether it's being done by a company or an individual. If someone genuinely wants to help a cause, there's plenty of things that can be quietly done to help on a practical level without doing the whole ''look at how ethical, decent and humane we are'' thing, whilst at the same time profiting off their supposed decency.
April 4, 2022 at 8:22 PM #1792059Well said, Charley.
That about sums it up.
I would just like to add though, the other side of the coin is that there is always some sleaze looking for the opportunity to profiteer off the misfortune of others.
'Why is the price triple what it was last week?'
'Oh that is not our fault, it is [ Brexit / Pandemic / War in Ukraine / insert some other big crisis here ]The rich get much richer at the cost of those that can least afford it!

April 4, 2022 at 8:59 PM #1792066@eelgoo Exactly. And their ''efforts'' are transparently obvious attempts at publicity and self-aggrandisement.
If I was an ordinary Ukrainian whose life had just been devastated, somehow I don't think I'd say to myself; ''well; I've lost everything and everyone I love, but at least Daz brought out a special bundle in support of us; the proceeds of which they will donate to care.org for the month of April - aren't we fortunate and blessed?''
Tacky as it is; if Daz had instead stipulated that all proceeds from the sale of the bundle went to relief efforts, then I could at least appreciate that they were doing something decent; albeit in a way that makes me cringe.
Putting up a Ukrainian flag in your front garden, or hashtagging ''stand with Ukraine'' in all of your Twitter posts, or painting everything blue and yellow, writing poems, singing songs or sharing memes won't change a thing.
If people genuinely care, they'll help with the humanitarian efforts and quit the virtue signalling.
It was the same with the pandemic. Celebrities getting together singing Imagine, whilst hospital staff were worn out from overwork and then dealing with having to make the terrible decision of which patient should get the last ventilator, didn't do any good - it just infuriated people.
April 4, 2022 at 9:34 PM #1792072If someone genuinely wants to help a cause, there’s plenty of things that can be quietly done to help on a practical level without doing the whole ”look at how ethical, decent and humane we are” thing...
April 4, 2022 at 9:39 PM #1792073@amberkat True... But it doesn't matter what they think as long as you know what you've done, and though the people benefitting from your contribution might not know your name, where you come from, etc, etc; at least your contribution will help them, and that's really all that matters, IMO. 🙂
April 5, 2022 at 10:27 PM #1792510I have seen a lot worse than what Daz3d is doing. I actually appreciate the effort they are making though the bundle in question isn't one that I would actually purchase. I have bought a few other bundles though, and apparently ALL BUNDLED ITEMS are tallied toward their donation.
I get it though.. said bundle, "Stand With Ukraine Bundle" leaves a lot to be desired. Also the fact you have to purchase something for them to donate something does leave a little bit of a sour taste in the mouth.
Honestly, if you are going to donate, then do so through Red Cross or other humanitarian efforts..
I kinda contradicted myself, didn't I?
Some video game companies are doing this weak ass sauce effort of cashing by "helping the war effort." One company that really irked me was by 11 bit Studio (A Polish Studio), the makers of This War of Mine (An actual game about the poor living conditions and wartime atrocities that Bosnian civilians endured during the 1992–96 Siege of Sarajevo). They were going to give all profits to help the Ukrainian people for sales of said game for A WHOLE WEEK.
What they were really doing was advertising their game and their forthcoming game Frostpunk 2. Which they plastered all over their starting menu and an intrusive window pop-up for pre-purchasing the game.
NOW THAT IS LOW.
Thankfully Polish company CD Project RED set a better example by just making 240 thousand to a humanitarian organization.
I guess it's just how you look at it though.. I know DAZ3D isn't made of millions, so their compromise seems commendable to me..
April 5, 2022 at 10:59 PM #1792519It is a very real game and at the time their game was released I thought it was well intended. Though did they have to make the game about a real life event to make a point? Nope.
Though EA and Activision do it all the time along with other companies so it really isn't uncommon.
Honestly, the game is rather shallow. While it is supposed to show the difficulties of war, and how they cope. It really shows nothing more than people stealing to survive and gives its characters very little development or personality.
In my opinion, the game only sold well because of their good graces of handing out free key codes after the game was leaked/pirated before its actual release and thereby ingratiating reviewers and news publications.
When I was in the military we had to fish out burnt dead bodies from the ocean after civil strife in Timor. Making games is a hard business so I don't blame them for trying to make up original ideas... but I understand your grief.
April 5, 2022 at 11:30 PM #1792523There's always a problem when contentious issues are seized upon for less than purely humanitarian motives; in this case commercial. It would be better for Daz to have kept out of it for numerous reasons. One being the accusation of hypocrisy or duplicity.
Down the path Daz has chosen one could ask why not a support bundle for Afghanistan or Gaza or Iraq or Libya or Lebanon or Syria etc, all who have suffered terribly through invasions and war? Perhaps a Daz bundle for the people of Donbas who have been bombed and shelled for the past 7 years.
One could raise a myriad of reasons for and against each individual case so IMO Daz should steer well clear of all contentious geo-political events. Not doing so just opens an ethical can of worms.April 6, 2022 at 3:25 AM #1792549Considering that Daz is donating 100% of the proceeds I can hardly call it profiteering.
However, when was the last time Daz stood with refugees who were not European/white?
April 6, 2022 at 6:42 AM #1792565Like Eve Adams said:

April 7, 2022 at 1:01 PM #1793109I've noticed quite a few other 3D communities doing the same thing, in my opinion it is very unethical lol.
