Hello everyone.
This is the first time i think i'm asking here for a technical advice about how something work in Daz Studio. I really hope someone here will be able to help me understand/solve my problem. *cross finger*
So here is the thing:
It's a problem i sometime enconter on some cloth (specificaly dresses and cloth with long floating string of cloathing) but i'll give you here my lastest example.
I have auto-fitted this dress from «Elven Princess for Genesis 3 Female(s)»
https://www.daz3d.com/elven-princess-for-genesis-3-female-s
to a Genesis 2 character. (By using the auto-fitting script and «Genesis 3 Female for Genesis 2 Female(s)Females»)

http://i68.tinypic.com/2pqp17p.jpgHere is my problem: Because i auto-fitted the dress (i assume it's because of that, but i'm not 100% sure!), when i pose the character, the bottom of the dress (legs) are following the legs of the character, sticking to it like glue. 🙁

What i'm wondering and asking is......Is there a way to make it so the bottom of the dress doesn't follow the legs of the character ?
I'm assuming it's because of the "bones of the legs" of the dress (Thighs/shins/foots/toes) is following the bones of the legs of the character because of the auto-fitting. I tried searching for tip and help on daz forum but it's all so gibberish to me what they are saying. Some people are talking about weight mapping and bones/joint editor. I never used any of those and my brain hurt just by reading those words. All i want to do, it just to seperate the movement of the legs bones of the dress with the movement of the legs bones of the character so that the bottom of the dress stay straight with the pelvis of the dress and the character when i pose the character, what ever the pose is.
(As shown here with my crappy drawing)
http://i68.tinypic.com/rm00g1.jpgI still want the dress to be auto-fitted to the character because i want the rest of the dress to follow the character pose. I don't want to delete the bones of the legs from the dress because i still want to be able to manualy move and pose that part. So i'm lost. I just don't know how to dissociate the movement from that part of the dress from the character.
Can anyone help me ?
December 30, 2018 at 6:23 PM #901648Yeeahh, i kinda figured what i was asking for (a simple solution) was a bit of some wishfull thinking.
Although i'm far from knowing how all it work, i do know a bit how D-Form function and how to create "custom" morph. It help me immensely to fix some nasty poke through basic mesh smooth can't hand well. I don't shy from using it. I don't mind either to have to "manualy pose" the bottom of this dress each time i pose this character. It's just that i hope at least to make it so that part don't follow the legs at least when i first pose it so it at least reduce a big chunk of the manual tweaking. 🙁
It's frustrating sometime when you see all those beautifull promo of the product where you see the dress being all smooth and sleak. And when you are using it, it's all wonky and such. Just because you don't know how to do it and it require a degree in 3D engineering to reproduce it. >_<
Why can't it be simple *sigh*December 30, 2018 at 7:17 PM #901693After a bit more toying, i discovered that the problem with the bottom (legs) of the dress doesn't appear when i use that piece of clothing on a G3 character. (The base character this clothing was originaly made for.)
So i'm all assuming this problem is due to the "auto-fitting" script. Although that doesn't tell me more how to fix it, but at least, i know what cause it.
Still hoping someone here can help me in solving this problem.December 31, 2018 at 10:39 AM #902466You can use the node weight brush tool (I think that's what it's called, can't access Daz atm) to assign the part of the mesh that's currently following the legs to the hip joint, which is probably how it is set up in the original G3F version. I'd recommend looking up a tutorial on how to edit weightmaps cause it's not the most user friendly thing in Daz.
Right now your problem definitely is the fact that autofit creates it's own imperfect weightmaps based on proximity to the underlying mesh, hence the parts closest to the legs are gonna stick to them. There are custom autofit templates for sale for G3F and G8F that can alleviate that problem but there were never any such templates released for G2F (SY Ultra Templates for G3F/G8F) so manually adjusting the weightmaps is pretty much your only option.
December 31, 2018 at 5:44 PM #902927@UpUp Thank for the input. Yeah, i kinda start looking at that "Node weight map brush".
Like you said, it's not at all user friendly. Well especially to those who know nothing about creating 3D object.
I tried dabbling a bit with it and got mix result. Maybe the solution is in there with that tool, but since i don't know how to do it but mainly WHAT to change to where. (What weight do i transfert and where do i transfert it ? Do i transfer the weight to the tigh ? The pelvis ? The hips ?!? )
I guess i'll have to start cutting through tutorial. (urgh!)I was hoping someone here how would have already done that could write me some tips on how to do it in a simplier way.
I was also hoping that like you said UpUp, there would have been some script/tools already made for the generation i'm using here (Genesis 2) that would already do all that.I don't know.....the other day, i stumble upon this:
Sickle Dress Rig Genesis 2 Female
https://www.daz3d.com/sickle-dress-rig-genesis-2-femaleAnyone used this thing before ?
Can it solve my problem ? Is it hard to use ?I'll be giving it a go today but if anyone already used that thing and got some comment on it, it would be appreciated.
January 1, 2019 at 12:09 AM #903213Well folks, i have good news. (At least for me, but maybe for other people who had the same problem as me.)
My problem is solved!
I found a relatively simple way to do what i wanted to do, that is....separate the movement of the bones from the legs of the dress from those of the characters when posing all while de dress is "auto-fitted"I used that product: Sickle Dress Rig Genesis 2 Female
https://www.daz3d.com/sickle-dress-rig-genesis-2-femaleand it worked like a charm, with just a simple click.
There is a pdf file with this product to tell you exactly what it can do. (it can do a few other things too.) But what it did for me and i used, it's that when the "auto-fitting" box appeared while dragging the clothing to the character, it added one more option to all the option already available in it. It added under the "dress" combo-box, a "BasicDress" option.
What it do when you choose this basicaly, it juste replace legs bones of the dress. (tighs, shins, foots/toes) by handles in the dress.
So you can still pose the dress manually, but since it's handles, they are not "glued" to the legs of the character. The dress is still auto-fitted to your character. So everything at the pelvis and above is still perfectly following your character.
Of course, you'll have to manualy pose the bottom of you dress, but eh! That's what i wanted to do. It's also super easy when your dress already have a bunch of movement morph built in it.So yeah!!! Oh happy day!!! \o/
Also, the interesting part is, although it is said by the person who made that that it is for Genesis cloth that goes on a Genesis 2 character, it worked perfectly with a clothing from Genesis 3 on a Genesis 2. i did not to more test, but maybe that little doodad can also work on other characters and other piece of clothing from other generation. (It worth the try for those who want an easy way to help them fix that problem without going into Node weight map brush and things like that.
