    I really know it shouldn't annoy me but I can't change the way I'm wired and it just does. The artist has obviously spent a long time modelling this plane and it looks pretty good until you realise it's missing all the rivets and plating that it should be made up from. Now I'm not a huge aeroplane or WWII buff but I know when something looks wrong and a smooth bodied WWII bomber just isn't right to me. There's instances of this kind of oversight all over the place in the 3D model marketplace, clothes without seams, and models that seem like they're just extruded from a single material. It annoys me more that the same vendor put out a model of a WWII fighter recently that does have panels and rivet textures on the body and it looks superb.

    Does anyone else get frustrated when someone puts in the effort to make something but then falls short of making it great? Is it just me?

    Nah you are right, the plane is beautiful, he put a lot of effort on the engine detail and interior , but the body outside looks too smooth, it should be more detailed.

    No, it's not just you EM, it annoys me too.
    The creator (Gonna get on my Zbrush high horse again) could have added that detail in Zbrush easily because you can get all those brushes for a small fee.
    The price difference between DS models and something highly detailed from a place like Turbosquid is justified IMO.

    @Norbertz, I'm aware of some custom brushes in zbrush and even Substance painter that can give you a decent effect with minimum effort. I just wonder if he looks at the model now, and just regrets not spending more time on it. Surely if it was better detailed it would garner more sales?

    @littlepleasures
    , I can understand that this is a job for these creators and they have to think of their overheads and making a profit, weighing up how much their time is worth. But, this is the fighter he put out recently https://www.daz3d.com/whistling-death-warplane and this is the level of detail that he put into the exterior.

    I'm assuming he got that riveted and patchwork look from texture and height maps. How much work would it have been (seeing as they have the knowledge and ability) to just do it for the bomber?

    P.S. I'm glad it's not just me. 😛

    From my perspective, the interior of this product is nice, the exterior, not so much. However, the Wreckage 4: The Fortress has a beautiful exterior with several historical choices, but the interior is lacking.

    @littlepleasures, For this artist/vendor it seems like it's a bit of an abberation. He/she isn't prolific but their past work is nicely finished for the most part and looks good. This one just seems rushed and yes, it seems like s/he's thought, 'good enough' and submitted it to Daz. It's disappointing though and I hate it when I see a product like that. Especially one that so many people then fawn over thinking it's 'amazing' and not knowing any better. Maybe I'm being elitist and a bit of a snob but I think that serving your customers with 'good enough', discourages the discerning customer but then again I have no evidence to back this up.

    Other items I see like that, that seem as if the vendor has just looked at the time and thought, 'that's all this is worth', it just annoys me.

    And don't get me started on dodgy promo pieces... 🙁

    yes I agree. if its a model of an actual historical object it should be as accurate as possible. I would have thought it could have been done with textures and displacement/normal maps and not need to be modelled. some models such as gaming ones are pretty simple but look amazing with the right textures. Maybe someone will bring out a more accurate map for it.

    Level of detail vs price. Like stated above, if they are asking $10 I dont expect much. Can always be used for distance shots snd will probably render faster. If its $50 Id expect good details outside. If its $100+ Id expect a detailed cockpit and moving parts. Its all what the person thinks thier time is worth. For some making an airplane might come easy. Otjers may take 3 times as long. I know it would be difficult for me to make a simple glider.
