I've been waiting for a long time for any folks at Daz's place to relase a good and usefull tool or pluging that would make you be able to use in a more easy and simplier way all of your old clothing ressource from previous Genesis generation for the newer Genesis 8 generation. I think that would probably be one of the only thing has up of now that would push me to jump and use the new Genesis generation. Because right now, i don't want to lose all of the older clothing ressource of the previous generation which i find quite usefull.
So at first, when i saw that new "Clothing Converter from Genesis 3 Female to Genesis 8 Female", i was kinda interested.
But after reading the description of what it was doing and HOW it was doing it, my hope kinda crumbled into dust.
For anyone who used that new converter.......is it me, or is it something quite not as far as efficient and usefull as...let say....the "fit them all" tool for Genesis 3 or it's equivalent for Genesis 2 ?
Also, am i right to understand that it only work for item from Genesis 3 ? Not for any other older generation of clothing ?
August 13, 2018 at 8:57 PM #714721I don't really get what it does any better than the really pretty good Auto Fit, which covers all legacy stuff to a greater or lesser extent.
If it had covered legacy footwear, it might have had some value to me, but as it doesn't.....

I do all my conversions manually, it doesn't take a lot of time and you do not lose any movement morphs that way. Manually I can even adjust most shoes to fit G8.
August 13, 2018 at 9:59 PM #714795All this script does is automate the steps from the following tutorial:
https://www.deviantart.com/sickleyield/journal/Tutorial-Convert-Clothing-G3-to-G8-G8-to-G3-686682065
This can be a time saver since it provides better results than autofit (most of the time). However it only works with smart content so if you don't use that (which I imagine many of us don't since we often have to install manually) it really isn't very useful. Also Renderosity (and other non-Daz sites') products don't ever include any smart content so it won't work for those at all. (FYI smart content are the files included in the product's Runtime/Support folder)August 14, 2018 at 4:05 AM #715125I've been following the creator's thread on the Daz forums and it looks like they just released a patch you can download (bottom of the first post and also on page 6) which will supposedly work with non-Daz products and anything missing the smart content metadata. Definitely worth keeping an eye on this thread as there are likely to be more developments in the next few days:

August 14, 2018 at 7:25 AM #715292Converter? I just the Auto-Fit plugin for genesis 3 to 8, or genesis 2 to 8, and in some cases genesis 1 to 8.
It turns on smoothing, so IF there are any poke thrus are taken care of, or can be.
Works like a charm. Does project maps, weight maps, Genesis -> Genesis 8 and in between (only upwards though, you can't put gen 8 shit on gen 3 or 2 now.)
Filename :
E:/DAZ 3D/DAZStudio4/plugins/dzautofit.dll
Name :
Auto-Fit
Author :
DAZ 3D, Inc
Version :
1.7.0.123The Auto-Fit plug-in. This plug-in provides the ability to convert clothing and other fitted items from previous generation figures to work with the new Genesis figure.
Example:
Genesis 2 Hot Mess Outfit, fit to genesis 8 using autofit on the Madonna character with Drop Wet Hair and a emissive sphere for light source. Didn't have to do anything except select the original character build of the outfit.

August 14, 2018 at 7:29 AM #715303Forgive me if i'm wrong, but i think gen 8 is auto installed with the option.
August 14, 2018 at 7:30 AM #715304and i think there was or is a bundle of wear them all floating around somewhere, i just don't know where.

August 14, 2018 at 7:34 AM #715309As a matter of fact, here is my plugin directory, take what you want from it, but it's the dzautofit.dll that is doing most of the work.
create a copy of your daz install if you want to test it out. scan it too, hell, i wouldn't trust anyone lol, but yeah, from my 4.10 daz install, i can always go up with clothing.

Plugins.rarAugust 14, 2018 at 4:12 PM #715794@AftyrByrn : Wait wait wait....are you telling me there is already a pluging for daz that auto-fit all of the previous generation clothing's ressources toward genesis 8 character ?!? O.O
And it's installed by default in Daz 4.10 with the Genesis 8 package ?!?I...i....DAMN! I didn't know that! Since the time i upgraded my daz version, i never tested/used any Genesis 8 character yet because i though there was no pluging for that!
I have to give it a try and check that out! THANK A LOT Aftyr Byrn !!!!!!! \o/
P.S: Oh wow, that's a nice outfit you showed me there. Hot mess for G2 it is call ? Gotta have to check that out. Look quite interesting!
August 14, 2018 at 4:19 PM #715808Which is what I said in reply to your original posting. 😉
August 15, 2018 at 3:50 AM #716426The advantage of this script/method over autofit is that it preserves the original's custom bones, weightmaps, jcm's, mcm's and Evolution morph fits (since they're identical G3F and G8F). For something like a skintight bodysuit or bikini you won't really notice any difference but for a complex outfit like a ball gown or anything big and bulky it can make a big difference.
August 15, 2018 at 4:04 AM #716433With dForce now, i usually will get my new characters / old clothes posed without worrying too much about poke throughs and such, but when i'm ready, i'll revert to pose 0 and then run dforce from there to drape the cloth ... lots of tweaks and explosions to work through, but the end result is worth it.
