Hi - I don't know if there are any other G3/G8 users wondering how difficult it is - to get the otherwise/after all great hair/wigs made for G9 characters to fit previous characters G3/G8? (Also when posing - your G3/G8 character)
If you have any suggestions/solutions, it would be greatly appreciated if you (Wizzard!) would post those tips here in this thread.
THANK YOU in advance.
/F.
July 19, 2026 at 6:52 PM #2180894I believe The WP Guru on Youtube has a video about this.
Not sure if it works the same in reverse, but it seems possible.
July 19, 2026 at 7:11 PM #2180895There's a plugin that supposedly clones and G9 item (clothing, hair) for use with other base models.
July 19, 2026 at 8:23 PM #2180910@josiebethlewis2019 Thank You, I have the clone/s, they do not work properly - IMHO,
+ the advice from the WP Guru - same issue, I mean, take the (short hair style) dforce Debbi Hair (there are others), from Magic Brush, it doesn't work, nor backwards, no matter what you choose as "parenting" for the head or the figure.July 19, 2026 at 9:46 PM #2180917It might be better to try exporting them, then importing them to blender, then re-exporting them as another format, then re-importing them to Daz. I have no idea. I've only ever successfully imported static objects like props or environments into Daz.
July 19, 2026 at 11:42 PM #2180921Iirc, SickleYield's hat and hair helpers are available since Genesis 2. In the past, I have had decent success by fitting G8 hair onto her G3 wearable prop and then using the prop's morphs to adjust any unwanted clippings or gaps. Since I do not use dforce, I cannot confirm if dforce would function properly when backported using this method. Note that while this may work for short hairs, long hairs that have morphs or additional bones may cause issues.
July 20, 2026 at 12:06 AM #2180923Try this, AFTER you have applied all of the head morphs to the model...
•Have nothing selected in the scene.
•Load the hair without auto-fitting it.
•Adjust it (xyz translation and xyz scale) so it fits as best you can manage.
•Parent it to the head.It isn't an absolute. But it's the recommended method for the majority of both card-based and strand-based hair. By simply parenting the hair, you retain the morphs, dforce, rigging, etc. You can even save the overall adjustment as an asset.
Re: dforce Debbi Hair, it doesn't seem to be a matter of fitting it (above method works fine for me). And it turns out, I had no problem auto-fitting it to the SONSY G9 Clone FBM, then reverted the morph back to standard G8F. It stayed properly fitted. But then any applied head shape morphs from that point can/will greatly distort it.
My initial attempt was on The Girl 8 and it turns out that The Girl 8 head is just too much morph.
July 20, 2026 at 2:30 AM #2180934I use the method 3Demon is recommending. I use G9 and even some hairs that are made for G9 I feel work better fitted using this method. Some creators make their hairs overly follow body JCMs which can morph the hair in strange ways when moving the head around. Using the method 3Demon has suggested makes it so the hair is not associated with any JCMs at all. One thing I do is use a DFormer to even further fit the hair once it is parented to the head. Usually it's to fix the position of the ear spot.
July 20, 2026 at 10:59 AM #2180995@3Demon - There is only one problem with that cause I have run into it a couple of times, even with clothing: Textures won't load onto the hair if you want to change the hair color.
What you need to do first is, use gen 9 base model to fix the hair up the way you like sometimes, including the hair color. Then, when all of that is finished, unfit it and unparent it from the gen 9 base, and then do what you just said.
You don't know how many times it has frustrated me when some gen9 hair can't be changed of their hair color, cause I have it parented to a g8f model.
July 20, 2026 at 5:09 PM #2181021@gohanf22 I'm pretty sure that's due to hierarchical presets, i.e. designed to work only on a specific figure and if it can't detect it at the top of the hierarchy it ignores all attempts. That issue might be solved by using the Scene Identification method whereby you change the "Preferred Base" (from G9 > G8 or G8 > G9). Clearly, I don't have a good handle on it, yet.
Like I said, it isn't an absolute.
Be of good cheer. The entire universe is order. Every bit of it. There is a reason for everything, even if there isn't an explanation. DS included.
July 20, 2026 at 5:42 PM #2181024I think a workaround for that is probably to make the hair or clothing it's own g8 version, and then manually check the folder heirarchy that Daz would recognize for that model. If the texture is in the right folder, it might allow the change in material. If it's saved as a g8 hair or clothing, it should even populate it's own texture folder for that item anyway, as long as there is at least one chosen texture. Then you can just drag and drop the others there. I'm not sure about scripts that need to be connected to the folder to indicate what the texture library is if that's a thing. I never looked into it that deep. But it might be another issue.
July 21, 2026 at 7:22 AM #2181080Thanks for the answers.
In my opinion, hair should be easy - and not least fast - to use when we create artwork with OUR - characters G3, G8 etc. I agree that new "items" require different approaches, but - it's as if now that G9 is "the thing" :/ IT (DS) has completely run away, with the backwards compatibility it is clearly visible now. Really sad, although "there is a meaning to everything" @3Demon
Cheers, indeed 🙂
