The hole for Daz was dug. I can't continue to deny or assume it's relevant any longer. Only waiting on someone to chisel the date into the tombstone.

We should stop buying and sharing stuff since it's a waste of money. Invest in better computers then?
DS has been dead to me for a long time now. Not that I would critisise those few still using it.... each to their own I guess. It's just that some are a bit slow on the up-take.
It really depends what you want from it.
For me, for many years, it has done & is doing exactly what I want.
If you want something different that is fine.
Seeing the detail AI is now capable of along with animating I honestly don't see a reason to. I'll probably still mess with Daz but it's dead and I'll just be riding a zombie horse.

A few things I look for in renders are how realistic it looks, the quality of lighting and detail, the overall wow factor. There are few items in the Daz store that even come close to the images I posted and it would take significant effort to render the quality and animation shown here.
I might rethink my opinion if you can post a couple images you've made that have a significant wow factor.
I am currently in my old house. We are moving to a bigger house. The old house does everything I want it to do. Been here probably 20+ years. The new house has more room and hopefully will hold up as good as this house has.
I've had several vehicles over my lifetime so far. They've all mostly done what I expected from them. My current Truck is fine but I'd really rather have one slightly better.
My old CRT TV worked fine when I replaced it with a flat screen. I've not seen a CRT TV anywhere in years. Not even as a donation. I haven't had a phone landline in years since I brought my cellphone.New technology has replaced a majority of things that worked fine for me. The reason I replaced them is the new stuff worked better. Not sure how often you upgrade your PC to get a faster render or play a game with better graphics but to see people's responses on what's the best card for Daz I'd be willing to bet a lot of people would upgrade if given the chance.
I'm not extremely interested in jumping into AI. I find it mostly soulless. However I can't argue with results and now see Daz as trying to cut a tree down with a herring. G9 hasn't helped the situation. Would be interested in seeing some of your art in the art section.
The trouble with DS is it is trying to be a jack of all trades & is comprehensively failing.
They need to stop trying to market it as something it isn't & focus on what it is good at.
I feel that it's more than just results. We had this conversation some years back and many of us agreed that the process can be just as much fun and satisfying as the end result. Loading a scene (interior or exterior), adding props and furniture, loading some characters then dressing and posing them is a hoot all on it's own and something that's not possible with AI. We called it 'playing with dolls'. I get so involved with that and frequently a screenshot is good enough for me. I'm running Stable Diffusion on my desktop but don't use it often as it doesn't provide that level of interactivity that I find so intriguing and just plain fun. What I DO want from AI is a render engine that doesn't take a million years to deliver good results.
I love the results you can get with AI, but I also love the process of making something with DS. Just picking each element, adjusting the camera and lights, it's like playing a game and getting rewarded with a picture. It is definitely not as impressive, but it's therapeutic in a way.
*chuckle* When I was shooting professionally I would occasionally do free advertising shots for a lady who custom made wedding gowns. Laying out the acres of scrumptious satin, organza and all those delicious fabrics was pretty heady. Thankfully the models (high school students who did it for free just for the experience) where also great fun to work with. We had a ball with it. Clicking the shutter was the end result of a lot of fiddling and arranging. It was the process that was the most enjoyable part.
I suppose it's like many endeavors. If you paint or build models you'll understand.absolutely pointless to compare AI to DAZ, all you can get out of AI is random "one takes" and if you try to achieve something specific and useful, meaning 100% consistent across several shots, angles, locations etc. then what ...
current AI is a toy for people with a very limited creative vision, the "make art" button for the lazy that don't know what they really want to achieve. it's good to surprise yourself with something, but god forbid you want something very specific.
AI won't replace 3D anytime soon ...
I found reasonable decent results in having AI enhance my Daz renders. I get the best of both. I select everything I want and AI improves it.
At some point in the near future if not already. (I've not done much AI experimentation) you'll say, I want Vina Sky walking down an endless glass stairway lit by a full moon. You'll select a few frames for reference and likely get a result very close to your subject matter. If your accuracy is even 50% it should only take a few tries to nail it.
With Google maps you should be able to place anyone anywhere not blocked by communism. Not sure why AI couldn't follow a prompt like "move moon to the right don't change anything else" or "make moon brighter" "change dress to pink Tshirt and panties" ect...
Like I say, I've done almost no serious experimentation but I don't believe this is out of the grasp of AI
