DAZ3DIM_1.4.1.69_Win64 Better, Worse, Good, Bad compared to previous releases?
Is it worth installing?
If No what releases are you running?
Cheers
August 30, 2024 at 1:20 AM #2088584Ha ha, last month it was the third anniversary of Daz announcing Daz Studio 5.... "as soon as possible".
This must be the longest development process of any piece of software in history. You can guarantee it will be...
a) a piece of crap, partly or wholly subscription-based
b) never see the light of day, which is probably more likelyAugust 30, 2024 at 4:20 AM #2088587@frank22 Do you remember when 5 was first announced? So many people here were so excited and I kept saying, "Don't get your hopes up, it'll be years before we see it, if ever..." and everyone said I was too cynical/pessimistic about it...
I hate being right, sometimes.
August 30, 2024 at 6:52 AM #2088600Yeh I remember, it was about the time I joined here. And ever since then no progress or ETA announced, which is at least true to form for Daz Corp. The disrespect they show to their customers is sickening.
August 30, 2024 at 7:16 AM #2088601Even the public Beta is thirty.... Yes, THIRTY! iterations behind the current private 'canary' test issue of 4.22

August 30, 2024 at 9:49 AM #2088606There's a Beta?
Just after Studio 5 was announced we got the Tafi takeover (an equity firm). Since then we've seen several short-sighted, ill conceived, greed driven attempts at making BIG money. NFTs where a massive fiasco. Then they tried to win new customers over on social media. All that got them was a huge slap in the face as we asked pointed questions that they couldn't delete. Now it's the laughably bad attempt at their own AI. Through all of this there's been no mention of Studio 5. Maybe we should start a thread in Daz's forum and bomb it with requests for information on Studio 5. Someone mentioned that Daz has been shedding employees the past two years. I'll bet that they no longer have their core programmers.
No...you're right, Studio 5 will never happen. Good thing we have all those copies of the older versions.August 30, 2024 at 2:19 PM #2088625"This must be the longest development process of any piece of software in history."
/Duke Nukem has entered the chat
On a more serious note - I just plan to roll with it until 5 comes out, then we'll see what it looks like.
As for 5, as long as the UI doesn't go full-Blender in complexity, the bloat doesn't bog down the computer, half my libraries aren't suddenly useless, or don't make it a subscription service, then I'm good with whatever.
I'll be keeping my stack of current and older DS install files anyway, just in case.
August 30, 2024 at 6:26 PM #2088658August 30, 2024 at 6:28 PM #2088659A lot of us were & are quite happy with G8.1F
Your 8.2 adds some probably needed polish though.
🙂
August 30, 2024 at 10:03 PM #2088672Yes, having spent that much meticulous time & effort, I think it would be a shame not to put the finishing touches to her.
Perhaps upload her in her finished glory to the custom section, at a decent premium?
🙂
August 30, 2024 at 11:24 PM #2088678@gelstat The "hope" for DS5 was that it would stop using a 15-year-old fork of OpenGL for the interface and move away from the prohibitively slow script-based UI (which prevents a lot of advanced simulation engines)... also that an improved OpenGL interface would allow for a more streamlined animation workflow as well as things like motion blur (which Iray supports but can't work in Daz Studio now due to timeline limitations).
So, there was some genuine interest for legitimate reasons, but the concept was a pipedream given the state of Daz3D.
August 31, 2024 at 12:30 AM #2088680@eelgoo,
what's a 'canarie' please?
Isn't the 4.whatever just updates of Studio 4? I assumed that 5 would be labeled '5.something Beta'
.August 31, 2024 at 12:33 AM #2088682@gelstst, I'm following your G8.2 version with interest now. If I can use all my much beloved 4.2 girls (and their luscious wardrobe) I'll buy it...er her.
August 31, 2024 at 1:56 AM #2088687I'm confused too Adam. Canary refers to testing a new software version, so in this case it isn't that, just an updated DS4.Though it wouldn't surprise me if DS5 turns out to be DS4 with a few new bells and whistles, if it ever appears.
August 31, 2024 at 6:42 AM #2088702So far as I am aware, there has been no public beta for DS5
There has however been many public betas for DS 4.22
'Private Build Channel
This channel is similar to the Public Build channel, except that it is limited to a select group of individuals that serve as the “front line” or the “canary in a coal mine” for a time before the build is promoted to a less restricted channel. This channel is more likely to see an ALPHA build than the Public Build channel is.'🙂
The public beta is now 37 iterations behind that. :0/
