Adding to the Studio 5 "will it or won't it" discussion, I remember a discussion some time ago (years?) in the Daz forums where folks speculated that Daz wanted to be a content company vice a software one. They where (and still are) pushing their content towards other platforms with their crappy bridges that don't work well. It was postulated that Studio would be less and less supported and possibly only maintained to a minimum standard to give new folks a taste of the content. It would become a simple program serving only to showcase Daz's stuff.
The conversion drifted around to where someone asked why anyone would continue selling on Daz's site when they could sell directly on unReal or Unity or whatever, and cut Daz out of the loop. At this point everyone's favourite assclown, Haseltine, locked the thread for some bullshit made-up reason.September 1, 2024 at 8:05 PM #2088954Re: Content & Content Model
And so what happens when all the G8 and previous assets are pulled from the store, and only G9(+) is left, and noncompliant non-G9 PAs are gradually shed and/or exodus from the DAZ store and forums? What happens to the "content-based revenue stream" that is supposedly (only partially?) funding development on -never gonna happen- DS5?
The whole model is silly. (Edit: Or at least how it's been so poorly handled.) And it's telling that the only places to discuss it all are far from the DAZ forums. DS days have been numbered for years. Where the actual money comes from to keep it all afloat is baffling. And what they've done to themselves in the painting-into-a-corner approach of G9 is bankrupting beyond it.
Will the Zone be the only archive left for all the lost assets? It's already happening. Only time will tell. The irony of pirated content being preserved in the end by pirating is palpable.

In all honesty DS 4.22 does all I want it to do anyway.
Sure, it is always nice to see 'bright new shiny' but I for one am happy enough with Genesis 8.
If we do see G9.1M & G9.1F I would consider it, but I doubt I would bite.
If we get G10M & G10F I would be interested to see that too.

From content sales because I don't think Tafi is putting any money in for DS development. The problem for DS5 is that it has to remain compatible with current content, so as to not piss off users with a shit-ton of stuff, and can't progress if it does that. A mutually exclusive situation. You can't turn a fax machine into an iPhone.September 1, 2024 at 10:35 PM #2088975I don't want/expect/need anything new and shiny from DS5. I just want what Studio was in the beginning...fast and rock solid stable.
September 1, 2024 at 11:09 PM #2088976DS has been solid as a rock for me too regardless of the version, though I haven't updated for about 2 years. I guess it has its niche market but when compared to other free software like Blender it lacks a ton of features and capabilities. So horses for courses but I still believe that clinging to the current code is very limiting with regard to render speed, animation, materials etc.
September 5, 2024 at 9:25 AM #2089443I don't know what is happening.
Now the Public Beta is 40 iterations behind the Private Beta.

September 7, 2024 at 11:09 AM #2089726Well, finally!
For those that might be interested, after 41 iterations we now have a new public beta released.

September 7, 2024 at 1:17 PM #2089744I got one alert box and declined it.
'A tip page for the Scene Info pane is missing. Would you like to create the "Default" page?'
Everything loaded OK.
