So I was reading a while back about this GPU. This sound(s)/sounded very interesting.
    Nvidia Tesla K40

Mainly used in Mining, but according to my understanding can also be used to power graphics (speed things up) Brochure says it can be used with DAZ Studio, although someone said that currently only older DStudio builds support it.

Anyways, ended up probably wasting my $40 on ebay, because I purchased one. Should have gone for a K80, almost same cost. I've seen a few youtube videos where you can adapt one to a regular PC, albeit with a powerful PSU.

I realize this is a rack mounted fanless server board GPU. Can probably install it in a case big enough to hold it. I've also seen where you can externally mount it to a stand. Albeit with a riser cable that appears to be too short and a modified dual fan system.

I've got a 750 watt PSU, and I want to connect this to my Dell Optiplex 3020 (most likely power adapters are going to be involved.

Will using an external PSU just to power the GPU cause a fire?

No, but they’d better be grounded together. Using the same wall plug will work.
…unless you have the same house wiring that I have. If I ever catch the idiots that wired this place I’ll plug them into the c/b panel and fry ’em.

Hopefully using a power strip will work?

Considering how old that architecture is (about 15 years) and the number of CUDA cores, it might perform about as well as a 1080 Ti. It’s doubtful that Nvidia still supports that deprecated chipset, so the required drivers for Daz/Iray probably can’t make use of it and/or won’t see it.

Yeah, I realize that. Hopefully good for something other than a paperweight... lol

In that case you should probably not run that, even if you are able to get it working. These fanless cards are designed for operation inside a case with screaming loud fans blasting air across them. Running them open air is not a good idea.

    Example of such a server:

    Gigabyte G242-Z10 Review 2U 4x GPU Server

Just buy a 1080ti or 3060, that would probably serve your needs better.

I don't even think it will come close to the 1080 ti in rendering performance at all. Its a Kepler architecture card. It might equal a GTX 780 ti in rendering performance.

I see what you all of you mean. Bummer.. but like you all said.. Kepler is dead...

H40 would have been a better buy, esp the 24gb version. That said, it's not very good for Daz due to lack of support. That said, for stuff like an actual rendering farm (Blender) or AI art generation it would kick ass.
