Hey everyone. Last year I thought I was going to buy a laptop but I decided to wait until I could get a really good desktop for gaming and playing with DAZ. I had asked some questions and some of gave some good responses. I'm just looking for some thoughts on what I'm considering buying and hoping some of you could once again give me some advice and answers.

    Thank you.

    1. Here is the link to what I’m thinking about. It comes with 32 GB of RAM but I’m thinking of upgrading to 64GB. Do you think it’s worth the upgrade for $600? https://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Hyper-Liquid-Alloy-Black-Mamba

    2. My current PC is from 2015. The specs are: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5820K CPU @ 3.30GHz 3.30 GHz, 16.0 GB (15.8 GB usable), and the video card is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960. In your estimation, how much of an upgrade do you think this would be and what kind of impact would it make? At the moment it takes my current PC at least 30 minutes to do a headshot render at 1000×1000 with nothing else in the scene except the character, hair and clothes. Usually takes more than 30 minutes, sometimes even 2 hours depending on the hair. With a PC like the one I want, how much time do you think simple renders like that would take?

    3. I’ve never been able to use d-force hair simply because the simulation process for the hair takes to long and often times freezes and shuts down DAZ. Do you think I would have any trouble using d-force hair with this PC build?

    4. Finally, do you have any other thoughts or advice?

I have a similar setup (mostly it's AMD instead of intel, and DIY rather than prebuilt), and I can say the extra physical RAM does help with rendering large scenes, as your GPU can borrow part of the physical RAM if it runs out of onboard. That CPU is overkill, tbh; games won't touch it and if you're doing it right neither should Daz.

It'll be a massive improvement over your existing setup. a really complex 4k render takes me about 45-60 minutes, with multiple actors, environment, props, etc. I've never had any issues with running dforce either, although I do it one node at a time to keep things from interacting poorly.

I spent a similar amount back in 2003 for a PC with specs I'm too embarrassed to reveal. So while your one may seem expensive it's actually a bargain when you consider what you get for your money these days.

The impact of a good PC is massive on render times.

32GB is a good starting point, but I have 64 GB myself for future proofing a bit.

A good processor will help handling the viewport and it's needed to not be a bottleneck to the graphics card.

The graphics card should be...as good as you can afford. A GTX 960 is...ancient at this point. I mean, if you can go to a bare minimum to a 3070 (the 60's tend to be a bit too weak IMO).

In terms of render speeds...let's say that my longest render has been 1.5 hours, for a noisy 4K picture....all the while watching videos on youtube without problems.

Okay, very cool to know. I was really hoping to improve render times and actually be able to create scenes I like using indoor and outdoor environments but with my PC now I can't do any of that because it would just take way to long or crash DAZ. When I first started I could create a jedi vs sith lightsaber scene as long as I didn't do a background but honestly, that is very boring to me without an environment.

So Legolas18, I guess I would be fine with the GTX 3090 Ti? I think I'll throw in the extra to get 64GB of RAM.

On another note, (maybe related) I recently tried using Genesis 8.1. Every time I put a skin texture on it doesn't take. The character just ends up being all white. Am I doing something wrong or is it because my PC is ancient?

    @markmark
Have you installed the latest Genesis Starter Essentials? The only time I've seen white materials on 8.1 was because it was trying to use stale G8 essentials. As I understand, there's some differences in the UVs between 8 and 8.1.
You're hardware's age has nothing to do with it.

The only other thing I can think of is that you might somehow be trying to apply skin materials in the wrong way... there's like 100 different ways to break skin mats 🙂 Are you applying a regular mat after a shader? Or a shader that was meant for something else?

In my opinion, the 3090ti is not worth such an overpayment compared to the 3090. Rendering is performed on cuda cores: 3090ti - 10752, 3090 - 10496. The difference is about 3%. The difference in price is clearly not 3%.
Excellent assembly for daz and games:
    processor - from 8 cores
    RAM - 32 GB, better 64 GB
    graphics card - 3090
    power supply - from 1000 W
the rest does not play a special role.
It is better to spend the surplus on a good professional monitor.

"...how much time do you think simple renders like that would take?"
If it was taking 30 minutes before with a RTX 960, I'd say you'd be looking at <5 minutes with a 3090, perhaps even less.
You're probably doing the right thing with the 3090 because the top tier 4000s look like they might be trouble.

Thank you Amber, I'll look into that late to make sure I have it updated. I've been trying apply just regular character skins to my figures.
