Hello everyone. Let's see a general problem: The change of bones in G3 and G8 ... Far from solving this issue, Daz insists on continuing with his distances. The "excuse" is for "more dynamic bones" for the face. Well, it seems to me that it is an advance, but, only and only in the face. However, the vast majority of models in skeletons and rigs are of the simple "standard" bones. The assumption of two extra bones in arms and legs I do not understand the use. (...) The "twist" bone is in charge of the rotation, and the "bend", of position. It seems to me a lot, as well as the initial pose "A" of genesis 8. This makes any Bvh file useless, since the current "MoCap" devices do not take into account that extra bone typical of DS. It will be his own business policy, but it seems wrong to me. In short, if we have, physically, a humerus, it is a SINGLE humerus, no matter how much they get stuck. The only thing they achieve is that a model as elaborate as Genesis 8 and 3 ... is a closed cycle. As much as there are "converters" towards Blender, Maya and others, it is not paradoxical that the Daz company is one of the most opaque in showing its code. Its SDK is version 4.5 ... The examples are sorry, they can be entered by "its noble parts", as well as the simple script manual. Is this platform destined for its own death, flight to ask? Arf!!!
Do they just do two bungles over the years without fixing their infamous Fbx I/O? Don't they realize that their exporter Alembic is obsolete? Or are they just hoping to win four damn dollars with their creators commission? A
Any comments are welcome to try and unravel Daz Studio's business. Nobody offers something for nothing ... Or does it? Aren't they dumber?

The thing that I found most irritating was the deletion of the heel bone.
It makes using legacy footwear really awkward.

Even if I don't wear those shoes, (I dedicate myself more to animation ...), as you say, it is irritating all Daz's damn workflow to other softwares. The Alembic plugin uses the old MD5 format (I think that is it, this way ..), not the current "Ogawa" format, therefore USELESS. And so, so many things .. Where a good Maya or a C4D is, to hell this soft. Only for its free models of base figures, it is worth ... Otherwise, it is absolutely obsolete ... And, thus, users, like you, Elgoo, who do not know what love or affection you have for Victoria 4.2 .. She must have more wrinkles than Tutankhamun .. 😀
Nowadays, I find it a grotesque joke that Daz wants to win a few bucks with the commission of its content creators, when they do not even respect their copyright. By many "benefactors" who expand their work philanthropically. So my question a few days ago: I find no reason to create "something" if it is free to download after two days. What nonsense of soft...!! 😀

It depends what you wish to use it for.
Certainly it is far from perfect, but it works well enough for what I wish to use it for.
    Single frame ultra realism.

Realism? No sure.. I use Cinema 4d whit Arnold , and is more real tha Iray (also, soo much speed for a simple render.), and the compatibility is 100% to others, like Maya, Katana, Houdini, and After Effects/Nuke..

Despite its pretentions, Daz Studio is primarily a hobbyist software, so those incompatibilities are no real surprise. 🙂

Aren't we about due for a "New" Genesis 10 figure series [assuming they skip a genesis 9 altogether] and a Major New edition of Daz Studio or will Daz3D continue to squeeze every nickle and dime out of G8 for the new few years?

The future is dark ... but we all know the results of the soccer or basketball ties on Monday. 😀

I don't see any reason why they would skip Genesis 9, they are not quite Microsoft 😉

Once they have finished milking G8, IMO it is most likely that G9 would be packaged with Daz Studio 5.

Then again I could be wrong.

I hope not, but you are probably correct.
They always go for what sells easy.

I usually just obj export and re-rig if i want to accomplish any thing with BVH. A bit of a pain, but seems to work in unity ok. And i don't really have any written method of doing it, since i'm usually just tinkering, but you can acheive some pretty good results with time and patience. Isn't any model you work with just an object with bones mapped to it, you don't have to be limited to the given bones, g8 makes it a pain, since the T-POSE is not a T, but i've also just make a pose for that and export like that. Daz isn't going anywhere. Wait, what? Genesis 9?

That sounds as familiar as the old 'Poser needs to catch up to Studio' debate. 😉

I used to be a freelance artist who traveled a lot and did a variety of artist projects ranging from airbrushed vehicle graphics to wall murals and everything in between. One of the biggest challenges I faced was finding good references from which to work with, such as lighting, poses and rapid idea generating for clients. I don't make money as a freelance artist anymore since I switched careers, but I find daz very useful for creating a scene, then translating that scene to an actual painting. In my spare time I render a few as references, and using my wacom and Photoshop, I turn it into a digital painting by fixing the "3D" look when I repaint it. I actually prefer daz over lightwave and other "high-end" apps (and I've used a few of them) because I don't need to model and texture anything; just import, pose and render. Call it "toy" or say that daz is not "professional" enough, but it's not the tool but the person using the tool.
