I'm curious how many things should we have actually installed in our libraries. Of course this will depend on what kind of computers we have and things like storage, CPU, RAM etc. But does anyone have over 10,000 things installed?

I have a little less than 2000 and it's already impossible to find most of sh!t I have in there. I know most of us have thousands and thousands of items being the horders that we are, but what's the optimum install technique? One guy I know only installs what he needs to his scene and then deletes it from the database when he's done. That's seems extreme to me.

I'm too embarrassed to count them! :00

Everything I have installed can be found though, due to a rigorous manual install heirarchy & nomenclature.

Nevertheless, I wish I had the discipline of your acquaintance. 😉

I've got quite a lot of things installed, lots were freebies from vendor sites back in the day, but I'd say my external HD that I have my runtime on is almost full. A 2tb hd and I have maybe 20gbs free on it. I manually install and sort/rename everything as I get it, but there are definitely things I know I wanna use but can't find in my runtime.

On my second ever Library, a 500 GB hard drive, there's 400 GB of Poser and Daz stuff, mostly V4 and M4
My second Library is on a 1 TB drive holding 931 GB exclusively Daz Studio stuff.
My latest Library is on a 1 TB drive and at the moment it is occupied with 267 GB of Daz Studio gear, mostly Genesis 3 and Genesis 8.
I threw a 20 GB drive out two years ago, my very first Library. It held mostly V3 and M3 stuff which I never looked at again once I moved over to V4 and M4.

i don't know how many i had, but i just did a complete clean wipe, and had 630GB+ used on my 2TB harddrive, i just really need to sort out everything, and get a workflow going, because i agree, having too much installed makes it a hassle to find what you need, and, furthermore slows everything down aswell.

    My archive is similar :00

I know I keep sharing this link, but it is an informative thread for those that wish to know about manual installation & effective archiving.

My HDD died i lost the last 3yrs of stuff i'm waiting for my new one to come in once i have it up and running i'm starting from scratch only putting G3 G8 stuff in and environments that i know i'll use same as lighting props and shaders NONE of the older props environments, clothing or people G1 G2 V4 M4 i find i'm not useing that stuff any more so i wont bother with it and it will be nice to have my library cleaned up --bad part is re-downloading and installing all the stuff i will use/want lol

@coolcat, mine died about 18 months ago. Lost a lot of the old KAT stuff that I had been collecting over the years. G8 came out shortly after I started rebuilding my collection so I've got a lot of new stuff and some G3 stuff. Almost no V3 - G2 stuff, which is what I had prior to the crash. Wonder when DAZ is going to release their next generation base model.

i'm wondering when the next Genesis is coming out as well , i'd think it should be some time this summer given Daz's track record for when/how often they turn out new Genesis bases G8 has been out for a while now.

I'm in the process of doing a reinstall of my assets to eliminate the "Duplicate Formula" issue that prevents me from using the Batch Render addons...
Thankfully, I've kept everything I DL'ed in the past on a 3tb drive in compressed format, and only have to DL things I don't have already. Seriously considering getting a second Ext. ICYDOCK 4 drive chassis, to stuff some 6TB drives in, and make my backup system for Daz/Poser more "efficient", as that 3Tb drive has a LOT of duplicates on it, I think, thanks to the way some assets are named.

HOWEVER!, Before I started this process, Install manager was reporting over 6K of items, and I probably had another 8K that I'd had to either use the old exe type intalls with, or did manually. 😀 *yes, I'm a data horder. Thank God for the 24tb's of drives I already have installed, although they are all nearly full...*

Almost all of us are hoarders kendrad. I have over 3000 characters alone. I still download chararcters even though I usually just use the base G8 figures and use morphs and skin builders to make my own. When I lost my HD, I had about 1200 V4 and G2 characters that I won't bother to recover. And I've stopped hoarding G3 unless they have a really good skin or are otherwise special in some way.

Collecting the stuff is becoming an end in itself. A vicious spiral - get more stuff that I probably won't use, don't use stuff becuase I can't find it because of the stuff I won't ever use, ....

I used to have my entire library installed, something along 16-17000 assets. I've redone my lib now, and currently have 9414 assets installed. This is mainly G3 and G8, with lights, props and environments, for the most part.

The gist of what I gathered from the Daz forums is that they are in no hurry to launch Genesis 9.
Apparently they believe there is still significant scope for further innovation within the Genesis 8 base.
They were pretty vague about what that might be though.
