the thing limiting your performance might be your system RAM–the 4070 TI has 12GB of VRAM, so DAZ will want a minimum of 48GB (4x VRAM) to fully unpack the scene data. With 32GB of system RAM, DAZ can handle scenes that use up to 8GB of VRAM (out of your 4070TI’s 12) efficiently, but if your scene requires more than 8GB of VRAM you’ll hit the system RAM paging wall. Upgrade to 48GB of system RAM and you’ll be able to use the full 12GB of VRAM at full speed.
Interesting! Thank you for the info - I have two slots on the motherboard free that are looking awful lonely all of a sudden. 🙂

It's noticeably faster in a lot of situations, but overall it was less than I expected. I think DAZ is the bottleneck for me working with Genesis 8.1 more than the card.
The main benefit with the 4070 TI in DAZ is that the Iray preview is generated fast enough that I can use that as the primary window, so I could avoid the texture shading view until I get really complex with multiple figures. Genesis 9 is slower because of the high textures, but still fast enough it's a non-issue.
The 3060 TI was also pretty quick on this to be fair, maybe only a couple of seconds longer per change. Those seconds add up during a big project though, and it's a nice feeling not having to wait for loading screens.
Everything else in the machine: z790 motherboard, i7-12700k CPU, 32 GB DDR5 RAM (link because I know not all RAM is equal but no idea what the numbers mean - also, the RGB lights are really annoying so heads up on that one), water cooled CPU but fans for everything else. I hope that helps!
February 21, 2023 at 9:54 PM #1931066When I recently upgraded my computer it came with a 3060 TI, which I used for a while. Zero complaints, that thing was a truly massive upgrade from my 1070 TI.
I did update to the 4070 TI, partially because I decided to just bite the bullet and get all new-gen stuff so I don't have to keep agonizing about specs and numbers that didn't matter in a practical sense. I really don't know why reviews online are harsh about it - compared to my friend's 4080 I'll take the ~$600-$700 savings.
My opinion: If you can get the 4070 TI at MSRP, it is worthwhile if you do a lot of graphic intensive stuff like gaming, rendering, 3D design, etc. If not, the 3060 TI will have you covered.

August 4, 2022 at 6:21 PM #1838789I've already dug myself a hole and downloaded/purchased a bunch of assets and let DIM handle them. Sometimes I want to kick myself for that mistake, but I'm much pickier now and if I don't like an asset after the first run and I can't save it, I'll remove it.
The solution I've been trying is to set up different databases and folders for Genesis 8/8.1 vs. everything else (mostly G3). It's... kind of frustrating. A lot of assets work with G3 and G8, so I've got to try and split the files while also duplicating some files and crossing my fingers it doesn't break. It's really not worth the trouble, in my opinion.
My current plan is to try and move the database to a scratch drive I have - it's a small SSD meant for lots of read/writes or temporary files instead of permanent storage. It's a headache because Daz freaks out when you do something like that, so we'll see if it's worth it.
Finally, I periodically go through and do a manual cleanup. This is much easier for items with an installer package that fit in Smart Content - Renderosity stuff is a train wreck of inconsistent names/paths anyway.

June 27, 2022 at 5:37 PM #1824497Yeah, I'm way overdue on a hardware upgrade - I'm (impatiently) waiting for the new motherboards/CPUs/GPUs that are set to be out near the the end of the year.
I'll have to give Blender a try again - when I last used it the interface was pretty rough. Thanks for the suggestion!
June 26, 2022 at 5:17 AM #1823808I enjoy playing with Daz but it should not be considered as anything more than a toy.
I'm not too deep into the hobby (mostly DAZ on and off the past six-ish years, but my once-mighty desktop is now 10, so that pumps the breaks). If DAZ is the toy, then what is the next step up? I see Cinema 4D, 3DS Max, etc. but when you go from freemium to a few hundred dollars a month, that's a tough pill to swallow. Is there a program that could use DAZ assets (I'm guessing through a bridge plugin) that the hobbyist can afford and do it better?
