Well, I guess the blog is up so the cor functions work. It's really weird this thread works too. It's be interesting to know if any others do, but I got no URLs I only ended up back here because I accidentally clicked on the link on the home page. My comment about why I think V$ lives, I submitted it and got the 500.

So I was surprised it went through, got a bit twitchy. end up back here.

OT, but this the only place I can reach. Is it just me or most of the site backend being eaten by 500 errors?

As noted before, V4 was the single most used figure going as far as Genesis 2.

Pretty sure, Daz rhetoric aside, V4 is still the market leader, or close to it.

I can guess why. A, support. People keep making stuff for her. That a virtuous circle. It feeds itself.

B, Design. Genesis is technically superior to V4 in very way by one. V4 supports INJ.

With INJ based morphs, Victoria 4 only has to be as complex as you want her to be.

Because Genesis use a channel system that loads everything all at once, Ever product you add to a genesis figure increases said figure's foot print (Personally, I mean to limit my G8 install to my own custom characters and to shaping morphs, to keep the bloat under control).

C, people are afraid of change. V4 is going away as more n00bs join the fray and start with a Genesis figure. Meanwhile, the Poser advance figures just don't seem to making a splash with the content creators. So there's scads of V4 stuff, scads of Genesis stuff (In fact, I suspect G8's massive backward compatibility is less about user options and more about making G8 a V4 killer. I think Daz is beginning to get a bit peeved that their biggest competition is their own "obsolete" figure. Giving G8 access to everything back to Genesis, out of the box, means G8 starts life with library that is both competitive with V4 and different from V4). Given that the advanced figures do exist, and given that V4 won't die, one concludes that some people, bot vendor and user, just don't want to upgrade when they got something that works in hand. (And some other vendors are happy to take money from a solid looking market that Daz just isn't in anymore.)

That's my theory. Just as a supporting point, Aren't the celebrity obsessed over at forender pipelining everything they do through V4, still? (Despite the fact that, if they had a solid handle on G3, it would likely be easier.) Sounds like someone working with what they know (Poser and V4) because switching to G3 and Studio would be a lot of work.

If it is not impacting scale, it probably isn't scaling in the bones. Might be but doesn't matter if it is.

Here's what you're going to do:

Download and extract this into your My Library folder.
    https://mega.nz/#!dsdlzSYQ!E0EAefwsQH5sTkbqRK0jAZbhmTBWh_okLWR3cf7G0UU

Load Genesis. Load Genesis again. For the first, dial in Basic Female. This is just a reference. For the second, dial in Mikaela.

Scale the second up until it about same height as the first. That'll do well enough. Select the first and restore the figure (right click the parameters tab. You'll find restore in the context menu.) Hide the figure. Verify that only Mikeala is visible in the scene.

Select Mikeala. Find Mesh Resolution under General in the parameters tab. Set Resolution level to base, and subdivision to Zero. File > Export. Doesn't matter what you name it, you won't be using the name beyond find the exported file in a minute.

Now it get's interesting. Select Genesis (not Mikeala. In fact, go head and restore then hide that one). Dig into your Content library, People > Genesis > Dev Tools. Here you will find the Head Split Defomer. Load it.

The Head Split Defomer is now attached to Genesis. Genesis should still be selected. If not, select it. Launch Morph Loader Pro. Click Choose Morph Files. Find the Exported Mikeala shape and choose it. Click Choose Morph Files. Find the Exported Mikeala shape and choose it. That is not a typo. Do it twice.

Click the arrow to expand the first copy. Double Click the line where it says name, over the text that is the name. It will allow you to Edit. Type "FHMMikealaABC" where ABC are your initials (this helps prevent duplicating morph names). Right click the Reverse Deformations line, where it says "No" and change it to Yes. Click the Attenuate by line where it says "None" and go Weight Maps > Head Split Genesis > Influence Groups.

Click the arrow to expand the Second copy. Double Click the line where it says name, over the text that is the name. It will allow you to Edit. Type "FBMMikealaABC" where ABC are your initials (Notice the name is changed here). Right click the Reverse Deformations line, where it says "No" and change it to Yes. Click the Attenuate by line where it says "None" and go Weight Maps > Head Split Genesis > Influence Groups. Click the arrow next to Attenuate By to expand. Double Click the Strength line where it says 1 and change it to -1.

    Click accept.

You new Morphs will be in Morphs/Morph Loader. Dial one (ONLY one) to 100%. Edit > Figure > Rigging > Adjust Rigging to Shape. Right Click Parameters tab. Choose Edit Mode. Go to the Morph you have at 100%, Right Click on the slider. Choose ERC Freeze. Click accept in the ERC Freeze window. Wait for it. When it finishes, dial the morph to 0%.
Dial the other one to 100%. Edit > Figure > Rigging > Adjust Rigging to Shape. Go to the Morph you have at 100%, Right Click on the slider. Choose ERC Freeze. Click accept in the ERC Freeze window.
In the property group list, highlight Morphs/Morph Loader. If it already highlighted, select something else then highlight it again (it's important you do it this way). Right click the highlight group and choose create new property. Name the Property "CTRLMikealaABC" where ABC are your initials. Change the Label to "Mikeala ABC" very important in this case that you you use the initials. Under Presentation Attributes change Type from "None" to "Modifier/Shape" (this is important). Click create. Dial up Both the FHM and FBM you made to 100%.
Switch to the other Genesis. Dial Mikeala to 100%. Switch back to the one with the FHM and FBM dialed in. Scale this one down to match the other. Find the Mikeala slider you just made in Morphs/Morph Loader, dial it to 100%. right click it. ERC freeze, Accept.

You may change the LABELS (not the names) of FHMMikeala to Mikeala Head, and FBM Mikeala to Mikeala Body, you like. You can use the gear icon at the right side of their sliders to change the colors, set icons and change the property groups if you don;t want them in Morphs/Morph Loader. IF YOU CHANGE THE GROUP, write down where you moved them. For Reals. It make the next bit easier.

File > Save as > Support Asset(s) > Morph Assets. Change the Product Name to Mikeala. Drill down by expanding the arrows until you find exactly the Morphs you made, and check their checkboxes. If you did not move the groups, they are still under Morphs/Morph Loader. If you did, they are where you moved them to, which is why you needed to write that down. Make sure nothing else is checked. Daz will put faded checks in all the parents, and that fine. It's unfaded checks that you don't want more of.

    Click Accept.

Close Studio. (It's important. Stuff won't work right if you don't)

Reopen Studio. Load Genesis. You three new morphs should be live and working. The main Controller replicates the original morph. The other two allow you to dial in more or less of each and do not change the figure scale.

Which Daz version are you using?

Also, the morph shouldn't shrink the figure by Daz standards (not say they always enforce those). So check that the scale hasn't changed for the figure. If it has, set it back 100%.

Back to splitting the head, it can be done fairly easily but only if you have the right version of Studio.

It'll work fine where ever you put it, as long as you don't use a system folder or something.

You just need to make sure all the Daz software is pointed at the same place. They default to trying to stick in the public documents folder on windows. You can specify a different location. There won't be any problems as long you're consistent.

I was not irritated. I am now.

Seriously, when in the world has telling someone to calm down ever done anything but the opposite?

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, but it's a waste of time telling other people not express theirs. They have same right you do.

People said stuff. I disagreed. Why's that grind your gears so much? (It must, you took the time write about it.) I find it irritating that you feel the need to comment on it not because you disagree, but because presume to opine on my right to have an opinion and ascribe your impression of my state of mind to me. That's all in your head. Don't start trying to pick fights with the person you imagine I am. It's pointlessly combative.

By all means, disagree. Have a disagreement cakewalk through your city center. It's all fair game. But when your argument rests on what you think someone else feels, you're probably wrong and anything you say will be indistinguishable from trolling. What's the point of that?

The thread topic was G8, not my feelings. Let's stay on topic. If you really feel the need to discuss my feelings, make your own thread.

    I can't say it's not much to offer, and I didn't.

I just said the underlying tech changes don't rely on anything that couldn't have been done to G3.

Look, the same is true of G3 over G2. The big difference there is they don't share the same mesh. So, it's possible you would get a different result applying G3 technology to G2. Likely even. In that sense, a new figure is totally justifiable if not necessarily totally justified. You can argue about anything and eventually make one good point.

G8 and G3 do share the same mesh, except for the eyes. (and maybe the back of throat). So far the only thing G8 can do that G3 could never is be 3D printed. The G8 mesh is water tight. The G3 mesh is not.

It doesn't follow there's nothing of value G8 can do that G3 can't. Couldn't = Can't. I could not run a marathon without making some life changes. Stephen Hawking can't run a marathon. Ever. I can't run a marathon today. Because it's raining, for one, and it takes more than a day to make me ready to run a marathon.

So far, there no tech identified that G8 has that G3 couldn't. But unless someone ports the G8 tech back to G3, there's plenty G8 can do G3 can't. I make no judgement on the value of those things. I simply say that it was not technologically justified, IMO, as a new figure release. Much the same as a new iPhone every 12 months isn't justified.

I don't argue that their business model is wrong, either Daz or Apple. Just that I don't see the point to doing it that way. It doesn't change the fact that if you wish to use the new value in the new products, you gotta buy the new iPhone or download the new free figure. Nor does it say anything about whether or not you should value the capability changes of the new figure. I really don't have an answer for that. I haven't tested everything out. When I have, I'll only be able to say what is or sin't of value to me.

I can say the Golden Palace is far superior to any previous Gens product, if you're into realism. I looked at it and found it a bit startling in how different it reacts compared to the AE of NGV7. But I compared it to, you know, porn, and it's is much more anatomically realistic than anything previous. It is a bit off when it comes to color as the clitoral hood is more mons colored than inner labia colored in real life (of course the same applies to some outer labia minora, but at least irl you do see labia minora that are more pink than "skin." I've never seen a clitoral hood that was. Of course, I've not seen all the pussy, but it seems to me rosy red clithoods are the exception, rather than the rule.). Thus far, no one gets that right. Too much getting their anatomy from hentai, I suppose. I also noted that the smoothing modifier seems to respect geografts, now, but I haven't tested to see if that's specific to G8, GP, or Studio 4.9.4.

Ya'll really need to clean up your terminology.

G8F does not look different compared to G3F. They are the same except that G8F's cheekbones are a tiny bit higher. Don't believe me? Load them both at the same time.

I get it. You don't like the direction they went with V8.

Victoria is not Genesis. Victoria is an addon for Genesis. One is free, the other is not.

Genesis * Genesis 3 look exactly a like, at least to the level of real world identical twins.

As for what the point was, Genesis 8's underlying technology is different. Which is not to say radically different. It's same tech base, just different implementations. Which means G8 can do things G3 can't. The A pose, for example, means G8 poses and animates better (at a cost. Generally, G8 will have more natural shoulder s and be more difficult to gimbal lock, and G3 will have better looking armpits).

Does that mean G8 was worthy of a new figure launch? On balance, I'd say no. I can think of plenty of ways the tech (including the A pose) could have been released as what G8 really is: G3.1, or maybe G3.5 if you feel generous.

But seriously: Yes, V7 and V8 are wildly different. V8 is Amazon tall compared to V7. But hell, Victoria's proportions have always been screwy and I'm not saying that from a Make-all-the-figures-look-like-"real"-women perspective. Vicky just looks odd, always has. Even V4's big draw was the wide range of options for making her look like something other than Victoria. That underlying tech hasn't changed, so it's not a Genesis 8 problem. It's a Vicky 8 problem because all "for Victoria 8" characters have to have the same basic proportions or the poses break (which won't stop 3rd parties making stuff that relies on V8 but breaks the poses, but at the first releases from Daz are going to stick V8's rough shape, including the long face). V8 still isn't G8F and G8F is still basically a perfect twin to G3F

You didn't think the same of Genesis 3?

Because it's the same mesh. Just a different pose and they changed the eyeballs.

You did say any other Genesis.

Which size is the same size?

I can do this fairly easily. I have a method for dealing the fact that the UV seam line runs down the middle of the back on Genesis 3. Really all Daz figures, but eh.

But I don't have a huge amount of time, and would rather not delay things if someone else is open to a back and forth.

    Pentagram is kinda generic.

Technically, the star is a pentagram. Also a pentagon and any other five pointed structure.

I figure you want an arrangement of 5 lines connecting five points, being the classic occult symbol, but you ought to specify the orientation, too. That way, you get what you want first time.

    No link, that I'm aware.

You either have to install the newest Studio build or grab her using DIM (she'll show as a new product).

Of course, I'm sure if you wait a bit, someone will eventually post the DIM package on some site or another.

And that, right there, is exactly what I mean by Daz has to consider what it looks like when they make a new figure. There's gonna be several hundred peeps like Convoyer here, and not all of them will be as restrained. If V8 doesn't offer a tangible improvement in technology, such voice will carry the day, as it were.

I don't doubt they have all kinds of ideas for making better iClone compatibility and so on, but that kind of stuff won't be enough, unless the majority of their userbase has given up on Studio.

Haters gonna hate, loudly. Daz has to offer something beyond "But it's new" or they won't sell.

I suspect they'll need to offer something pretty awesome, because I'm guessing it's going to be encrypted only, too. Aside from pirate impacts, that'll annoy a lot of customers, which means more loud haters. They gotta appear more valuable than the noisy objectors say.

I'm well aware of that fact, myself. In fact, a number of my points about both why Daz did what it did in the past, what it may do going forward are based on that fact.

Daz is not Apple. Their dev and marketing teams cannot invoke the reality distortion field to sell you the iPhone8 before iPhone7 is practically beyond its service life.

That means, yes, Daz wants to turn over from Generation 7 to Generation 8 as soon as doing so would make them most money, but one must factor in elements such as a bunch of people (pirate or payer) have zero fucks to give about that and what them to service those things that they feel are important.

Personally, I think Daz means to do no such thing. Studio exists purely to sell figures and they'll only devote enough effort to it so that it remains a viable competition to Poser at its price point (Studio is infinitely more valuable than Poser in real dollars. Or NaN more valuable depending on how you evaluate division by zero). But they can't just act like they mean to do no such thing or people will take it as fuck you aimed right at them.

I double checked some of my factoids wrt to the history lessons I was writing, and found forum posts where people where taking every tech improvement in G2 and G3 as a personal attack. Daz, no doubt, knows that will happen no matter what, but that doesn't mean they don't have to try to mitigate it. Having the inevitable sore reactions and hissy fits is normal business. Giving the majority of your userbase the impression that your product release cycle is essentially an expression of contempt for that userbase is something that only Apple can do, regularly. Failure to provide value beyond a shiny new morph called V8 would burn them hard and fail to sell figures.
