Hm... my feeling is that 8.1 has (a bit) better skin/eye shaders - shaders for G8 figures (eyes especially) were definitely improved over the last year or so. for example, I often find it really difficult to get decent catchlights in eyes on older G8 figures. Do note, however, that this comparison is not entirely fair as lightning is not identical on both figures.

I am not an expert, but have a bit of experience with trying to get non-daz stuff into it (primarily kitbash3d assets). Basically obj is just 3d object (mesh), you can load it in daz3d, but you will have to manually apply textures, shaders and everything else and it will be a static thing that doesn't play well with your figures. Then you can try fitting it to your figure (just right-click on it and do fit-to daz command). It might work, but standard daz3d clothes are rigged - they have all bones and movement capabilities of figures, so if your asset is not made like I wouldn't expect it move happily with your character. You could rig it yourself, but it is beyond my skills to tell how :(. Altogether it will end up being lot of manual work and might not work great.

Alternative (and probably preferred way) would be to load it into marvelous designer, fit/rig it to figure there and then export it to daz as daz-compatible asset with materials, rigging, fitting and everything. It will also end up being lot of work, but might work better - there are tutorials on the topic, examples: https://www.deviantart.com/mooncraft3d/art/Marvelous-Designer-To-Daz-3D-Tutorial-846652001 , https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/417911/marvelous-designer-to-daz-3d-workflow-tutorial . Of course, you will probably have to learn how to use marvelous designed in the process (I never used it so can't help there)

Let me know if it doesn't work or there are problems with accessing it,
    Cheers, Grak

Indeed, Iray renders lights "too real", so there is no rays unless there is something to reflect light to camera. I have been struggling with it for a while after switching from 3dlight which worked great with atmocam system and I still haven't found anything that works well enough for me 🙁 . SSS can work, but it bumps rendering time up enormously (my 1080Ti struggles with it to the point that I gave up), looks pretty flat/unnatural and there is no way to make it work only with one or limited number of lights so setup is pain. Cloud/fog props can help (for example https://zonegfx.com/cloudscape-creator-material-expansion/), but I yet have to find one I am happy with - they look pretty fake to me. Another option is fake volumetric lights (like godrays props) but these also tend to not look great. https://www.daz3d.com/epic-props-godrays-volumetric-light-for-iray and https://zonegfx.com/ireal-animated-dust-particles-bokeh/ (if you stack lots of them) kinda work, but are major pain to set up if you want any amount of ambient light
