Let's assume that your work does not bring you profit. You do this for your pleasure during your leisure hours. In this case, you do not need a lot of equipment.

You need a lot of time to customize the animation. Rendering is the tenth thing and does not depend on your ability to create animations. Therefore, let's separate flies from cutlets.

Motion capture equipment is not a convenient tool if you know how to create movements in key frames. I can only agree with one argument in favor of motion capture equipment.

This is if you create a film about athletes or supermen, where there are many active movements in each frame. If you are making a film about the crew of a spaceship whose team members are constantly sitting in chairs and pressing buttons on the control panel, then in this case you do not need equipment to capture the movement. Your animation skills for seated pilots may be enough for you.

Here we again come to the conclusion that the right strategy should be chosen for any process.

DAZ Studio does not contribute to the creation of animation due to the very slow rendering. You must choose what is more relevant for you? Either you choose photorealistic single frames with a long render, or you choose less realistic images for animation and with fast render times.

    This is called process optimization.

DAZ Studio and Poser lay claim to the category of programs for professionals. In fact, developers mislead their users. For me, professionalism is the ability to easily manipulate animation modules. The character should be animated by default, as in games. He should not stand still like a tree, but move from foot to foot, turn his head slightly and blink his eyes. I set a new point to move and indicate the time to move. The program moves the character to a new place automatically. This is what I call a program for professionals. But it seems that such programs will not appear in the life of one generation. The world is waiting for decline and ruin from digital technology.

Did you used motion capture files to animate characters or did you manually create keyframe animations?
90 percent of my animation is done manually by keyframes, but I don’t think it is tedious. For example, I create lip position libraries for animating conversational speech. This allows you to synchronize the animation of the mouth in strict accordance with the pronounced sounds of speech. I use motion capture files only for walking animations.
For me, selecting textures is tedious, but I like working with animations.

If you spend 6 months producing 2 minutes of video in DAZ Studio, then I spend 4 months producing 14 minutes of video in Poser. I agree that the quality of visualization may differ markedly, but we do not set ourselves the task here to create photorealistic movie. We are artists and we must understand that if we do not create our own unique style of image, then no one can distinguish our movie from other similar movies. Therefore, never strive to make your movie indistinguishable from filming with a real camera. As a result, you will reduce the time it takes to render and the timing of your movie will increase markedly.

If I understand correctly, then we will not see films made at DAZ Studio here. This program works well for creating photorealistic images. But we will need to choose another program to create the animation.

I finished writing the screenplay for the third movie from the lost planet trilogy. Next in line is the voice acting of all the characters for the movie. I found many interesting scenery for the movie, but many of the scenery was created for DAZ Studio. I need a lot of time to convert models from DAZ Studio to OBJ format for Bryce. I used to have no problems with models, but DAZ Studio adopted its own format of DSF geometry.

The main mistake of the Poser developers is that they are not interested in the users of the program about the necessary tools and they do not have a strategy where to move on. If they always think only about the commercial component, then the program will come to a standstill very quickly. They need to really understand what a modern user wants. If the team of Eric Wenger knew exactly about the prospects for the development of Poser 4, then modern Poser developers are developing a system of total control over users of the program through the model library update module. This slows down the program itself.

You can laugh for a long time, but I use Poser 4.2 (2001 release). This is the most stable version of the program and it creates the clearest images after rendering. This version has several major flaws. This is a limitation of the memory used and does not support languages other than English in the library. In addition, this version is not supported in Windows 7 and above, and you must select the program launch mode for Windows XP SP2. Despite this, I always prepare projects for visualization in Poser 4.2. Working with animation in Poser 4.2 is the most convenient of all subsequent versions. The developers of new versions managed to break all the best that was in Poser 4.2.

An introductory episode of the third movie from the trilogy about the lost Planet, created at the XXI Century Petrov Productions studio in 2018 by an engineer from Moscow Petrov Dmitry in his spare time on his home computer. I really hope that there are no Russophobes among you. 🙂

I do not speak english. Therefore, I created a special version with English subtitles and published it on Vimeo. This episode was created in Bryce, Poser and After Effects in 4 months. If someone can show another example of animation in DAZ Studio for comparison, then you can do it now. I am more than sure that DAZ Studio cannot boast of animation that can be created in such a short time. All the same, DAZ Studio is a program for creating static images that are indistinguishable from photographs. But this statement also has a subjective view.
