    That's the trouble at the moment, ram prices aren't the best, tariffs on products going into the US are going to really impact new hardware and manufacturers are always going to have tiered cards. The average consumer will be happy with what they are fed, it's only the people that try to learn what they need to know that will be any the wiser.

    I watched bits of "The Wan Show" the other day where they were discussing RTX and all the things they couldn't talk about or didn't know about it and were surmising. Luke mentioned that he went to an Nvidia event and saw RTX in action and said the use of ray-tracing to improve lighting in a game was "amazing". He couldn't say what game it was though or even hint about it but added that it might be "super easy" to add on to games, meaning it might move up the timescale of games utilising the technology. But, it would really only be useful in single player titles, multiplayer where not everyone would have the tech and it would consume more resources would be incompatible. I do wonder if this raytracing could be utilised in rendering engines although it's not been mentioned at all.

    I see the Chinese imports tariffs to the U.S are about to be implemented.
    So will this increase the price of most hardware seeing that it's all made in China I wonder.

    Ram prices were outed as being fixed a few months ago EM. Crucial and Hynix being the culprits. Still RAM prices remain ridiculously high. Then it all went silent....

    Perhaps Luke and others saw what Nvidia wanted them to see using smoke and mirrors + a game created for just the advertising shows. It wouldn't shock me one bit. Remember the GTX 970? Would you trust these companies to be honest about their product capabilities?

    There was talk of real time raytracing in Iray last year then it all went silent.
    Nvidia didn't answer any question put to them in the forums.

    Bill Clinton GAVE Silicon Valley to the People's Republic of China back in the 90s with that NAFTA disaster. Then Obama killed ALL mining in the US, sealing China as the SOLE producer of Rare Earth metals. The Chinese have been rigging the chip(including RAM) market for almost a decade.

    According to Moore's Law, we should be 5 tech generations ahead of where we currently are, plus the prices should be low enough for a starving Ethiopian to be able to afford the tech.

    As to the 20Series GPUs, Daz won't add support for them for at least 2-3 years, Autodesk and the other paid 3D apps will add support within 6 months of full commercial rollout of all 20Series GPUs.

    Sealing China as the SOLE producer of Rare Earth metals

    Yeah I hear you. Same outsourcing went on in many Western countries, now it's come back to bite politicians hard in the rear.

    The Chinese have been rigging the chip(including RAM) market for almost a decade.

    Many countries do this by speculating. Remove that and we will see lower prices.

    we should be 5 tech generations ahead of where we currently are

    What would we get if we were 5 generations ahead with technology?
    A rocket to a distant planet so we can rape it of it's resources.
    Things need to slow down.

    As to the 20Series GPUs, Daz wonโ€™t add support for them for at least 2-3 years, Autodesk and the other paid 3D apps will add support within 6 months of full commercial rollout of all 20Series GPUs.

    DS has over 2 million users according to Nvidia so I can see support for RTX cards happening sooner than your suggested 2-3 years. Can't have 2000 series cards owners complaining now can we ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Daz is notoriously slow on new tech integration due to a number of factors.
    1)Studio is Free
    2)It would be a low-budget/low-priority upgrade unless ALL other older nVidia GPUs suddenly died at once.
    3) Daz's software enginerds are tied up on a lot of other beta and alpha upgrades/plugins/UI tweaks/etcetera that have been in the pipeline since Studio 3.1 closed and Studio 4.0.0 dropped
    4)IF Daz wasn't cheap and lazy, they would have licensed VRay like the majority of other big 3D programs use, VRay will support the new 20Series from nVidia. One would think that since Studio supports .3ds format from Autodesk's 3DS Max, they would want to take advantage of the already optimized VRay textures, but Daz will be Daz.........

    DS is a notoriously slow app full stop.

    I agree since I use Vray in Max. Best render engine I ever owned.
    Textures can be converted from Iray to Vray but it can be a tedious task although the renders look way better than Iray on the realism side.
    Vray blows Iray out the water for speed also.
    My only guess is that some sort of large financial incentive was offered to DAZ by Nvidia.

    A sensible move like many in the gaming community have already done.
    Get a 1080 Ti and sit the 2000 series out.

    Gamers Nexus "review" of RTX-2080. There are currently no games that utilise RTX [ray-tracing] so it's just compared against existing hardware and existing games.

    TLDW? It's not worth it right now "as is", the performance is on par with 1080ti.

    I have JUST, after not being able to work for the last 20 yrs, and finally getting a part time retail, nabbed a 1060. The old one was a 960. I had to literally apply for a credit card in order to afford the 1060 soooooo....I have no plans for getting a new card.

    Unless I win the lottery.
    So, lol, nope!

    @evilmonkey

    Thanks, I saw that review when it hit the interwebz.
    Laughing at the performance side, like you said already it's on par with the 1080 Ti. These cards are for 4K gaming without having to fiddle with settings, and they are basically putting 4K gaming out of reach for many unless they hand over the cash. This is an elitist attitude from Nvidia.

    @littlesparrows

    Good old Consumer Capitalism huh. Was the 1060 worth it?, did you notice an increase in performance?

    @kendrad

    LOL! I'd keep the car.

    Just saw a test of the 2080 Ti in one of the local tech-newspapers here. It does (even without all the fancy new tech) outperform the 1080 Ti by 30+% - so there's that. With the added benefit of DLSS (new AA), those numbers go a lot higher.

    So, for pure performance, they're faster, no doubt. This is for the 2080 Ti, though - a card which cost around โ‚ฌ1150 at the moment. You can easily get 2 1080 Tis for that amount of money. Given that DAZ has no support for 20-series cards at the moment, that is of course also a negative point for the 20-series cards.

    Currently, unless you're gaming professionally, it doesn't make much sense to get a 2080 Ti. Nor a 2080, really, as the 1080 Ti performs equally or slightly better (for now), and cost less.

    So... currently, the 20-series cards are a bit... why?!?

    For me it really depends on how IRay incorporates the ray tracing. If it becomes a night and day difference, then Yes I will probably sell my two 1080sc for an RTX 2080ti. Other then that, atm with the newly introduced AI Denoising that came with 4.11 there is little to no need for an upgrade for me. The AI Denoising option has literally cut my render times by at least 4x.

    I simply don't trust paid for tech reviews and benchmarks. I'd like to see real world performance and comparisons. So unless some kid on YouTube does a side by side comparison then I'd believe it. It also depends on the hardware. No top end card will perform really well on low end motherboards. Same goes for overclocking. Top end results on top end motherboards. Most of the time this is overlooked when purchasing.

    As far as prices go.
    one 2080 Ti I saw was $1199 in the US (or โ‚ฌ1018) It's actually โ‚ฌ1309 (or $1541) in Europe. which means it's either taxed to death in Europe or the EU are allowing these companies to shaft the customer. A bit of both IMO. Still the prices are shocking regardless.

    @bty12345

    Keep your 1080's till some real user benchmarks hit the scene.
    If the performance is worth it then go for it.

    Yeah I saw the De-noising feature but haven't really tinkered with DS 4.11
    (I heard the Beta version was a mess)
