I've noticed that every once in a while when I use Sharemods for my assets, someone reports my post saying there are too many ads or that it's a virus. Most people are cool about it thankfully, but one person got really disrespectful and thought I was trying to 'advertise' to them just because I suggested using an ad-blocker. You'd think people would know by now that file-sharing sites need ads to keep running! I really wish that was more enforced on here..
September 10, 2026 at 7:42 PM #2187341This is very tech illiterate coded of them:
"...one person got really disrespectful and thought I was trying to 'advertise' to them just because I suggested using an ad-blocker."
Imagine uBlock Origin using adsense to get people to use their script... 🤣🤣🤣
September 10, 2026 at 8:46 PM #2187354@Josie Right, it pretty much is tech illiterate coded. Mind you I was trying to help their ass out to prevent themselves from dealing with ads all over again, and yet in return all I receive is disrespect.
What's crazier is that they said they bought the asset themselves, and then claimed that they didn't even want the asset. This left me confused, like if you didn't want the asset, why did you give me 50 points in exchange for it? And why buy it??
September 10, 2026 at 11:21 PM #2187373I've stopped trying to help the helpless. My generation (your's too?) learned all this stuff on the fly and we have no problem with it. Maybe the younger folks never developed the ability to figure stuff out because the schools spoon fed them and parents don't challenge them.
September 11, 2026 at 3:10 AM #2187387@supreme-leech Worse, the schools don't even spoon feed them knowledge, merely beliefs. Then they simply pass them along to the next grade, regardless of competency. They don't want to challenge or be challenged lest they are accused of an -ism. They have been told that they are victims. And, in truth, they are. But they're victims of their own making. They refuse knowing, in favor of believing. Believing requires no effort, no challenge. Anyone can believe whatever they like about whatever they wish. Knowing requires effort. Knowing is how you can effectively alter reality. Wait until they try believing a bridge into existence. They are largely scavengers, picking through the debris of the existing world that is crumbling around them. Civilization is a practice; a performance. And when enough people don't perform it, don't practice it, civilization goes away. Imagine a great roaring hearth, belching illumination and warmth. Surrounding it is a seemingly endless number of people enjoying it; telling stories; playing games; knitting; cooking and literally everything else. It has been continually stoked for centuries. In a mere half century, perhaps less, it has become taken for granted that the someone else will continue feeding it. As fewer and fewer individuals are willing (or able) to feed the hearth, it will diminish to an ember. And then nothing. No light. No warmth. No civilization. A return to Hobbes' "nasty, brutish, and short". And then...then they will truly understand the meaning of the word 'victim'.
September 11, 2026 at 6:54 AM #2187394The basis of so many films / episodes / books on the demise of civilisation.
Supposedly fantasy - nut fast becoming reality.
Just like the Eloi and Morlocks....Sheldor the Conqueror.. AFK.
🙂September 11, 2026 at 2:29 PM #2187468Meanwhile, sites like Shadowcore get all cranky if you have ad-blockers on, and will refuse to show download links unless you allow them to show you ads.
Unless/until I can find a way around that? No thanks.
September 11, 2026 at 6:18 PM #2187486@pooper Oh hell no, remind me to never give that site a chance, they must be out of their damn minds if they think I'm going to turn off ad-blockers and leave my browser vulnerable to annoying ads and viruses just to download shit off there. I'm fine with Zonegfx, Render-State and 3D-Load.
Like I can understand if they need money to manage the website but c'mon...
September 11, 2026 at 9:34 PM #2187500@pooper, FireFox has an adblocker blocker. It usually keeps sites from seeing that you have an adblocker despite having an adblocker.
I wouldn't mind ads if they weren't so invasive and didn't track you. I fondly remember static ads on Geocities. They kept my little site free and didn't get in the way.
September 11, 2026 at 10:48 PM #2187508@supreme-leech Does Chromium have an extension like that? I'm using Brave
September 11, 2026 at 11:22 PM #2187512@lordhellaborn, Sorry, I have no idea. i know that it's a constant war between the ad servers and the ad blockers. Just this evening I had to turn off the built in ad blocker in Brave because all my sites suddenly started looking like a lot of Javascript (or something?) wasn't working. An update didn't fix it. I'll wait for the devs to fix it. I use a bunch of different browsers so that if one has a problem, I can open the same page in another. Firefox is my most used browser. I even have an ancient copy of Opera only because it has the best bookmark utility.
September 12, 2026 at 6:02 AM #2187547@supreme-leech Huh, I see, on my end I don't think it was doing that? Perhaps It did do that but for a short time so I barely noticed..

I happen to be using Firefox for all my piracy needs. What's the extension name?
September 14, 2026 at 10:14 PM #2187903@pooper,
There's adblock Mate, and AdBlock Bypass Detector & Popup Remover. I have a few others too and enable/disable one or more depending on what a particular site does. Most of the time I have them disabled and just use the regular adblockers. I don't think many sites use blockers anymore because it cut a lot of traffic.September 15, 2026 at 1:10 PM #2187997Gracias, sir
