Adding a plane outside the windows and making them into Iray lights is another way to light an indoor scene π
September 25, 2018 at 12:09 AM #775585The hardest thing for me to do well in Daz is making the long rope and making sure the bucket has no holes. But even harder than that is digging the hole deep enough.
September 25, 2018 at 2:28 AM #775720lighting. same as you. all the info i have read however says that lighting alone mostly affects the quality of your render. how lights are used will also affect your render times. daz works very much like photography and iray lights work exactly like real world lights. therefore daz lighting or photography lighting tutorials will help you learn lighting.
i would not waste a lot of time figuring how to speed up your renders unless you are doing animation. render speed will be determined by your cpu, gpu, ram, lighting, and render settings mostly.
September 25, 2018 at 6:27 AM #775903Yeah, I suppose with careful camera angles, that might be a quick & dirty fix.

September 25, 2018 at 11:03 AM #776197I struggle with Godrays. As for lighting, it can be difficult, but if you use a three light system, you almost canβt go wrong.
September 27, 2018 at 1:06 AM #778275Right now? It's being able to create a believable scene quickly. For photo shoot style shots. I want to learn to make the render, the lighting and the composition all work together, and have a more open mind.
As for god-rays, look here. I found this very helpful. Though everyone's rig is going to be different, and take some tweaking of the settings.

It's a decent primer for atmosphere basics, and a video version here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQuaK-ft0I8&feature=youtu.beSeptember 27, 2018 at 2:11 AM #778343it's a good point. the best lit scene i ever did was with emissives, an HDRI and a fog camera. the emissives were a very great contribution.
September 27, 2018 at 2:20 AM #778352The hardest part for me is finding the time between not working and having a family.

September 27, 2018 at 9:34 AM #778753Well for me the hardest thing for me in DAZ is actually posing figures and objects in a scene.
Placing hands on hips, or butts on chairs or feet on the ground is not hard but its frustrating.
I wish that all all things were solid, so when your figure touches something it stops.
Then posing figures and placing objects in a scene would be a dream and it also might make animating a little easier as well.September 27, 2018 at 4:43 PM #779152Finish a project

Learn Zbrush for butt sitting morphs, impossible hair movements, or any other movement that DS refuses to do ------- Plenty of tuts on YewTube

Just finishing anything really.
I suffer from a low boredom threshold so I export dolly to Zbrush and tinker.September 27, 2018 at 7:42 PM #779366@norbertz Not always as easy as that, same thing with walls, some creators make it simple, but others .. well.

It depends if you want to learn basic stuff in Zbrush.
Some look at the GUI and their brain melts. You wouldn't believe how easy it is to send dolls from DS to Zbrush, do what needs doing and send it back to DS.
A simple sitting morph will take 5 minutes. For me a lot of DS features are pretty useless. And I agree some creators are lazy while others pay attention to detail.
I guess the lazy ones are aiming their wares at the pose and render user. -
