There are two sides in the points discussion.
I see the "poor" people come up with bright ideas to gain points anyway. Making multiple accounts, talking about sharing points and then buy an item and share that amongst each other, and other Shady ways to EARN there points.
They can't be bothered reposting dead links, or provide fresh content. It is "to much off a hassle"
So they scheme and plot to get the desired points.
They call people who do share and have points the elite.
So maybe they sanctify there behaviour in a Robin hood fashion, it is ok to robe the rich.
BUT.....
What if all the uploaders remove there shares?
All the scheming in the world will do no good if there is nothing to download.Just a thought.....
November 6, 2024 at 11:20 AM #2100768That's been suggested at least once so far. All of us take down our shared items and watch the screaming. Maybe going private for a few months will teach the ungrateful SOB's that sharing means EVERYONE contributes.
Their incessant sob stories are tiring and garner them no sympathy.November 6, 2024 at 11:27 AM #2100777Would give the crew time to implement new things. Nice sign on the landing page saying under construction....
Then when site goes live again write a TOS( To be read and agreed on registration),stating the site rules on sharing and behaviour. Not "playing by the rules" is a warning, to many warnings and you are gone.
Bonus for registration, but able to "buy" stuff at a certain points limit. So one has to upload or reupload to make the step towards downloading. That way we wouldn't have to take anything off line, and all content will still be there on revival .
November 6, 2024 at 11:35 AM #2100778If the site goes private - there is an alternative of the site going with the invite only option. Could be a limit on who can send invites.
I know it would take time for changes to happen.
November 6, 2024 at 11:40 AM #2100782invite only sounds good to me
November 6, 2024 at 11:55 AM #2100783We'd have to allow folks to apply for membership. There's lots of good people out there who we don't know and where never a part of any sharing community, KAT for example.
I'd also implement a 'no strikes' policy. If someone can't or won't read and follow the rules or is too stupid/lame to follow them then we're better off without them. Possibly one warning only?November 6, 2024 at 12:00 PM #2100786We all make mistakes... People who are genuine willing will filter out anyway.
November 6, 2024 at 12:27 PM #2100792The bottlenecks for any changes like this are twofold:
What does Hunter want to do?
How much time do the admin/mods have to make changes?Unless he's gotten more techie help, I believe Hunter does most of the changes himself on the backend. He's got to sleep sometime.
November 6, 2024 at 4:12 PM #21008551 There are people who share for personal enjoyment. It makes them feel good to see others enjoy what they offer
2 There are people who share for status. The first person to post a desired item or hard to find item
3 There are people who don't share they trade. If you don't give them something you don't get something
4 There are those that share because they feel the need to repay others who share for their kindness.
5 There are some who might share to "stick it" to big corporations that overcharge for products or mistreat people.
6. other?
Guess you need to reflect on why you share.
November 6, 2024 at 6:50 PM #2100881I share because what's mine is ours. From each according to his ability, to each according to his need, and all that.
November 6, 2024 at 8:50 PM #2100886I'm always one for compromise.... would say 20 daily points please everybody? somebody? nobody?
November 6, 2024 at 10:49 PM #2100898'im always one for compromise.... would say 20 daily points please everybody? somebody? nobody?
We give them?
They give us?November 6, 2024 at 11:33 PM #2100903unfortunately reducing points would probably just result in even more alt accounts. removing daily points is the only way to stop that.
However giving away points would promote more site participation. Of course one way is posting content.
How about site run a contest every so often. Pretty crappy they ran them quite often and now they skip things like Valentines Day and Halloween.
You can create custom content. Morphs, textures, ect... Would be nice to see a separate page for this and not a flood of random crap on the main page. ( also non Daz pages would be nice. unreal content has little value for me ATM) Even post other things like Photoshop brushes or Zbrush. Photography lessons arent really even out of the question. They aid in setting up Daz scenes.
IMHO the site could easily be a hub for other content and a way to earn more points than just from Daz items.
If you want a thriving community build one and put in a little effort. If you want people to brick up a cave and shun new Daz members youll eventually die out and resort to cannibalism. I seriously doubt during the extreme popularity of AI you can afford to hold up in your cave for long.
November 6, 2024 at 11:36 PM #2100905Anna - We give them 20 daily points and they stop bitching and try to contribute something.
Note that quite a few of those complaining about ending daily points are long-term members with hundreds of thousands of points. They aren't all leachers.November 7, 2024 at 12:10 AM #2100909I wasn't expecting my (or any) suggestion to please the nihilists amongst us Larry.
