I think NFTs are stupid, and DAZ piracy was kind of just something I did on the side cause hey free stuff. But after hearing they're going full force into the NFT game I kind of just wanna pirate literally everything out of principle.
What's everyone's thoughts on that?
December 10, 2021 at 10:59 PM #1756822NOTE: This is my personal opinion and not that of ZoneGFX and it's other Admins.
There's a huge Twitter series of threads where artists are finding their art has been given out to NFT auction sites without their knowledge, and without them being involved or earning anything from their own works. Many are filing takedown notices without success, and there are no laws to protect them. Many are finding their works are being ripped from their galleries and even DeviantArt and Patreon by bots. (DeviantArt is now offering NFT bot protection for around an extra $4 USD a month).
Many of those complaining are considering giving up making art on open platforms and only selling physical medium anymore. Many of these artists earn their rent and food money from their artwork. This ruins everything for a large number of them.
It's been interesting to follow.
Many artists are 3d or 2d and Digital Graphics folk, many others are photographers. But to mention the thousands of images being indescriminitely ripped from Instagram and Facebook and Snapchat for sale as NFTs as well.
So don't be upset when a photo of you and your family suddenly is featured in online ads selling mortgages or Viagra or God knows what. They hold a receipt from an NFT auction stating they own the image... And you cannot do anything about it.
Piracy of the highest level, and so pirating stuff from Daz or Tafi or whatever their name really is, shouldn't make anyone feel bad. If you have an art gallery there, chances are Tafi has already sold it's contents in the blockchain.
Woohoo!

Thanks, Anja.

December 10, 2021 at 11:26 PM #1756832They market it as a good thing for the artist, but IMO it's just new way to screw somebody for money.
December 11, 2021 at 12:01 AM #1756844Does it affect my view? (note the word should be "affect", usually a verb).
Well only to the extent that it confirms my view that money and art don't mix very well. The NFT thing has nothing to do with art. If I was using ZGFX stuff professionally to make money I would buy the stuff myself, but as I don't, I already don't feel that bad about piracy.December 11, 2021 at 12:45 AM #1756872Anonymous

This had me wondering if DAZ has done the same to some of their members and their PA's.
I saw the NFT backlash on their forums, not that it'll stop the money making machine.

I would assume the artists and their trusts have enough cash to employ the best lawyers.
While You and I are seen as nothing and easily trodden on.
December 11, 2021 at 8:14 AM #1756918The whole NFT scene feels like a Ponzi scheme to me. I did a little reading on it back in the summer and decided that a) I didn't really understand it and b) from what little I did understand, it wasn't the artist that was going to benefit from it in the long run.
December 11, 2021 at 12:21 PM #1756968I personally think it's a joke there are ppl and companies that want it to succeed because they have invested in it and they are throwing all kinds of cash at it in an attempt to make it succeed , I wouldn't doubt if most of the purchases of art at the moment are made by these company's and ppl , they are just stacking the deck and the only ones that will really profit from it in the long run if it does succeed is them it's the same as the whole NFP thing going on at Daz "THE METAVERES" yeah more junk, they say it's for the artists it's the way the net is going to be , but really it's for their own profit , they don't give a s--t about the environmental impact or the impact it will have on social or ppls mental well being they ONLY tell the "good" version of it NOT the reality of it the piracy, law suits the criminal cases , the cost, you think the web isn't safe now it is going to get a lot worse it will open a whole new can of worms, a new breed of criminals and like some one already said it's going on already , OPENSEA the one Daz belongs to has already had scammers, millions $$ cash worth of frauds.
This is just my 2cents worth I know I won't be falling for their scams.I should add one more thing Daz says it's for the artists but in reality they have turned down dozens of artists if not hundreds of them saying their stuff is NOT good enough for their site or they don't sell enough and they only allow certain stuff on their site what they believe is suitable, go figure and they are for the artists ? hmm..
December 11, 2021 at 7:10 PM #1757108As everyone knows during WWII, the German army had almost an infinite arsenal of weapons never seen before, such as the V1 and V2 bombs, but they had something even more powerful, it was the largest artillery piece ever. built, the cannon.
Two units of this colossus were created, although only one went into combat, as they were unique pieces, one was called "Gustav" K - Gustav kerät, and its twin was called "Dora".Its measurements were as follows: the length of the barrel base was 47 meters, the length of the barrel as a cylindrical tube through which howitzers came out was 32.5 meters, the caliber of the barrel was truly amazing, it fired 800 howitzers. mm, weighing 7 tons, they were bigger than a person.
The origin of this cannon was for the Germans to attack the Maginot line defended by the French, but when the time came to attack the Gallic country in 1940, the cannon was still being assembled in the krupp workshops in Essen, this and that the panzer tore through the defenses without any problem making this cannon almost useless.
Therefore, it would be necessary to look for another objective to at least test it in real combat, an idea of the High Command of the Wehrmatch was the so-called Operation Felix, which consisted of taking the square of Gibraltar and locking up the allied troops in the Mediterranean, but the plans were truncated since to assault Gibraltar the Germans would have to cross Spain, but Spain was neutral and Franco did not give his approval to carry out the operation, therefore Gustav was again without any clear objective.
This "little one" needed a staff of 1400 men between troops and auxiliaries, and moved in a convoy of 25 train cars, almost had its own army to be handled, an immense cannon with an immense expense in personnel and materials.
In 1941, during the Barbarossa operation, he was mobilized again to go to the front, it seems that at last his time had come, the objective was in the Crimean peninsula, the fortified base of Sevastopol, an important port for the Russian navy.
That's how the NTF matters to me with that weight on my balls ... 😀December 12, 2021 at 3:54 AM #1757215Read these posts last night and it got me to wondering what were NFT's & most of all how does it work? Did a little research and was still confused.
Woke up this morning and checked my email to find this from Karl Taylor Education on NFT's. https://karltayloreducation.com/nfts-a-guide-for-photographers/ After reading this blog post it started to make sense. Owning a NFT means you own a digital copy, not a physical copy. You do not own the copyright or the right to use the NFT as you please. Great article, very informative.Greystone
December 12, 2021 at 5:25 AM #1757220@Abad I'm not sure I quite understand your analogy apart from the idea that big things and plans often prove useless and fail on the ground. NFT could well go this way too. In 1928 everyone lost their money on just the same greedy speculative mindset on which NFT is now based.
Jesus wept, paying $600,000 for the Nyan Cat NFT, something that you don't own or have copyright to, and a piece of crap artwise, can only be justified if some other idiot will buy it from you for more that you paid for it.... hoping a fool is born every minute. Perhaps they are. A society obsessed by greed and superficialities.
It's a sad sign of our times....December 12, 2021 at 10:19 AM #1757272NFT "artists" will continue to cope and seeth
It's kind of like this site and people crying about not getting points for things they are essentially "selling" for a currency.
Or people on Patreon and other such sites selling "ports" of IP assets from games when most of those daz assets are just stolen content from others who also stole.
Never ending obfuscation of what piracy was all about. It's cringe.
December 13, 2021 at 3:18 PM #1757561Honestly? I'd like to say that it will collapse quickly, but I think it'll end up like Twitter - they'll fake it until they make it.
One thing I do disagree on, re: "They hold a receipt from an NFT auction stating they own the image… And you cannot do anything about it"
If that image contains your likeness and there's no model release in their possession with your signature, they no longer own it, and further, owe you royalties and/or recompense. Only problem is, good luck collecting unless the offender is in your country and you can find a friendly court to plead your case in.
December 19, 2021 at 9:07 PM #1759512NFT is Just a scam nothing else its for corporations to make more money and i really don't care what daz does i don't use there store they are to woke for me to give them anymore money anyway
