@heetee, Ahh jeez, why did'ja have to ruin the fun with common sense and well known economic principles? Baiting those clowns was almost as much fun as screwing with the flat-earth idiots. I'd never let established science get in the way of playing with their heads.
*sigh*July 11, 2026 at 10:46 AM #2179824I'd agree except this isn't well known economic principle at work. It's criminals lobbying for special legislative treatment to commit corporate crimes while they also very vocally push for the surveillance of the rest of the population. It's rich that they want to spy on the rest of us and prohibit their own prosecution by making their crimes "legal". All you have to do is look at many of the things already in the text of legislation (proposed and passed) to know it's an unholy marrage between corporate giants, and government: like the well documented prohibition on suing pharma corporations when their products are known to cause harm/death. Or the prohibition on legisaltion that limits the abuse of AI with regards to unwarranted broad surveillance. That's not free market principle, that's contravention of very explicit language in the bill of rights (in the US anyway). Where citizens explicitly have the right to protect themselves from crimes, and the states explicitly have the right to stop government or corporate overreach. If corporations and government are giving themselves rights they are prohibited from, in direct violation of existing laws, then you can't call it anything but criminal.
July 11, 2026 at 10:48 AM #2179825July 11, 2026 at 11:44 AM #2179850Let's take a look at market principles. Austrian economic theory says that the public has a huge stake and input into what is proposed on the market. If a company or a government proposes something that works to the benefit of the public, then they support/buy it. If the product is something that is to their detriment, or they don't like it, they reject it. This is how the market has worked for centuries. It's not debatable. However, the recent trend is for corporations and government to cut out the input of the public as to whether or not they are allowed to reject a product/policy. And this goes completely against market principle, because it gives the bullies complete control. They don't have to worry about the public rejecting whatever they propose, even if it's to the detriment of the public, or violates them in some way. Even when doing so literally undercuts the bottom line that is supposedly the driving force behind corporate/government decisions. One of the most poigniant examples of this trend lately is Hollywood studios ignoring the overwhelming rejection of their products by the public, as they forge ahead to sell something the public isn't buying. The public says they don't want it, speak out about what they do want, and Hollywood repeatedly ignores what is in market demand. They dismiss public sentiment as "racism, sexism, & discrimination" of some kind and label all criticism as evil, even when it is based on objective observation of quality. The same tone is taken now when government or corporations want to force bad products on the public and take away their right to reject it. Rejection that is for very valid reasons. The public at large is ostracized for rejecting things that are bad for most people, in favor of groups that either don't exist, or already control the majority of unbalanced power. The public is the market. Ignoring the role of the public in the market is a recipe for disaster. Or it would have been a century ago. Now both corporations and government act as though they don't have to listen to the largest part of the equation: the public, who will be most effected by their products. It's not conjecture, it's observable behavior.
July 11, 2026 at 11:47 AM #2179851@josie - You're preaching the choir here. It isn't human beings like myself and others in here you need to tell this to, its the CLOSEDMIDNED DISODANTS that choose not to listen cause it triggers them...
July 11, 2026 at 12:11 PM #2179859Unfortunately, this is a very undesirable global trend. 🙁
July 11, 2026 at 12:13 PM #2179860@eelgoo - yep. and this is also why a reckoning is coming that can't be avoided...people better buckle up. it's going to get worse, before it gets any better...
July 11, 2026 at 2:53 PM #2179868Feels like some puritans are celebrating and screwed many of the rest of us over. Let adults enjoy adult things.
July 11, 2026 at 7:00 PM #2179897Whether or not businesses disregard market principles to their own detriment is fine. If 'Hollywood' wants to dig its own grave at the cost of billions+, then I'm okay with that. They can chide, cajole, and demonize us for not accepting their product. But they cannot force us to pay for their product. The problem lays with government engaging in similar action, using the taxpayer's money. Or the government using taxpayer's money to bail out any corporation that has ignored market principles and attempted to circumvent the laws of economics (which is precisely what they will do if they know the government will bail them out). They are called the laws of economics for a reason. They can be temporarily bent. But they do not break. They are as inviolable as the laws of physics. Like any law, it is backed by an authority; this authority is Nature. Any attempt to circumvent economics merely shifts the consequences to a later time. But the consequences will always appear.

July 12, 2026 at 7:40 AM #2179991Reading some of the fallout now. LOL. Doesn't really effect me, as it's been a number of years since I brought anything from there. I wonder how many will go elsewhere.
