Just a quick question for advanced D/S users..
Any reason why an object in D/S won't take a texture map under Diffuse or any other way? All I'm able to do is change the color.April 4, 2018 at 7:34 PM #557662Iray or 3delight? I don’t think Iray uses the diffuse setting.
April 4, 2018 at 11:10 PM #557814Iray.. However, even when I apply a shader, it only changes color and gives me no texture pattern at all.
April 4, 2018 at 11:17 PM #557819Is it possible that you need the normals?
April 4, 2018 at 11:23 PM #557825I meant to say... FLIP the normals.
April 4, 2018 at 11:35 PM #557838I think someone else needs to chime in. I had this problem during the Christmas in Westeros comp. I modeled the Red Keep Throne Room. It was awesome and I was super proud of it. But when I brought it into DS, applied the Uber Shader, and tried to apply some nice stone and marble shaders to it, all I could get was a solid gray and tan color on the appropriate material zones. I finally gave up and just used planes created in DS.
April 4, 2018 at 11:35 PM #557839what object is giving you trouble?
April 5, 2018 at 12:57 AM #557979If you model it outside of Daz and bring it in and apply a texture map, that map is tiled. Depending on your mesh the tile might be too big or too small. If it's too big you will see the texture applied like it's too big and it won't look right. Most of the time it's tiling too small (because your mesh is huge) and it doesn't appear like you applied a texture at all. It just looks like a color because the maps are too small. The surfaces tab has a horizontal and vertical tiles number and it's set to 1 by default, that may be the wrong setting depending on your mesh, DAZ has no way of knowing how big the tiles should be. The tiling setting applies to all of the maps, normals, bumps, textures etc., so when it's tiling too small you just see a color. It's not always easy to fix either, I've run into clothing that I've modeled outside of daz and I can't figure out what size tiling to use to get the shaders to work right. Sometimes you can play around with the tiling and fix it, other times nothing seems to work and it just looks like a color. There's probably a way to determine what your tiling setting should be, but I don't know an easy way. It all depends on your mesh and the resolution of the textures you're applying.
April 5, 2018 at 1:39 AM #558018Nice to know. Ive had some models import in the size of an ant and others the size of godzilla. I never considered their texture size might need to be altered also.
April 5, 2018 at 12:03 PM #558457my 5 cents here, but... is the object in question UV-mapped? The most common issue, is when they're not UV-mapped, and have no material zones determined in the UV isle geography (if that term can ever exist), they can only accpet one material preset, and, often, at least in poser, using raster texture maps is either resulting in badly misalligned maps, or maps not showing. At all.
April 5, 2018 at 1:00 PM #558500Did you export the model from another app such as max or c4d or is it just a downloaded model, or is it an actual Daz model?
If exported.... with what app did you export?
April 5, 2018 at 5:32 PM #558768Its Ptropes Star Trek bridge. PZ3 I brought into DAZ. No maps/UV to anything but the view screens graphics stuff.
I found someone who changed the carpet in Poser, so I tried it in Poser and got the same result, just color, with the same file size she had used. I adjusted tiling in there but still nothing. Just a color change.
I even spoke with Ptrope himself and he says I should be able to add textures because theres nothing special about the model.
I'm not really adept with UV mapper, but the gal applied a different carpet so there has to be a way. This is the ONLY model I've never been able to add a texture too.April 5, 2018 at 5:46 PM #558787@robf4g210 yikes.. um... NO!!! I'm not going to use planes. Though the thought had occurred. If I did that then I'd be better off just modeling the whole bridge myself. LOL

I have some free time, where is the model for download?
Can't find it on this site.April 5, 2018 at 5:53 PM #558793@dipole-dipole I can pull in a square tile map to use to adjust tiling, but since I learned that technique, I've been able to guestimate and adjust if needed without it. (in DAZ). I'm not using thumbnail mats though so I should be able to see SOME form of a texture. Its really frustrating. Its a fricken 3d model for Dragons sake. LOL
