@locololo LOL.. I'm an artist, not a techie.

I do stuff myself until I can't. Funny story. My power supply went out on my very first PC which was a desktop. Top of the line back in the day with a whopping 6 MB HD. I watched the repair guy replace the power supply and after seeing the insides and paying the guy, I've never had anyone else work on my computers.

I don't mind asking questions. Only problem with computers, things change so fast.
Thank you for letting me know that.

    Hello, Dragon!
With interest I read your discussion about the HDD.
I will share my personal experience on this issue.
2 years ago I replaced on my laptop HDD on SSD.
Yes, the work has become a little faster, but insignificantly.
The main advantage of this replacement is the complete absence of noise and vibration, if this is important for you.😀
But the difference in price is very significant: $ 55 for 1TB of HDD and $ 229 for 1TB for SSD.
In my humble opinion, installing SSD on an old PC does not make sense.

@genady Thanks for your input. I was looking at storage space as well, for the money, and as most have said, while I could get an SSD for average of $50ish, I'd have little space/storage at 250GB or below, which goes in line with what you and I have both said. SSD is pricey.

However, I also understand the reliability of the SSD compared to the HDD. I went ahead and compromised and bought a hybrid that Afterbyrn had suggested. So I still got my 2TB for under $100.
I don't consider my 4yr old Acer Predator to be OLD OLD. ..
I know that in the tech world, devices are old after a few months but I'll be damned if Im going to be one of those people that has to have the latest and greatest every 6 months.
I see people going out and spending $900 on a freaking phone every 1-2 years. Seriously? Thats just a waste of money. PERIOD!
But nothing wrong with upgrading a PC bit by bit. And I'm hoping to have a better graphics cards by summers end.

If you really wanted to go all out and get a new case, you'll see that they have the 2.5 inch mounts... he check this out

Two dedicated 2.5 inch mounts invert the lower structure and 5 x 3.5 on the right. Under each 3.5 inch is another 2.5 inch mount.

I'm with you on the bit by bit upgrade. Those images represent the culmination of 8 years of upgrades. I have my motherboard is at least 6 years old. The case, GPU and water cooling are new past year.

I can't afford to do all that right now. LOL Plus, I have plenty of space in my current case. I have 2 empty bays plus the bay for the current dead HD. Plus I have 2 HDMI ports and 10 USB ports.

Some new but slightly older SSD drives such as Crucial and Samsung can be found on Fleabay for peanuts. Couple the SSD with a WD Enterprise HDD, it will last you a long time and be reliable.

Oh and to comment on the lack of speed increases above, you have to have SATA 3 bus, or yes it won't speed up. I think SATA 3is 6 GB a second, older satais much much slower. Depending on how old his laptop was, it probably is true no increase was noticed.

Loco was right - you’re so adorable. When at the end of the summer you look at a new video card, you will find out that it needs a new motherboard, processor, power supply...😉

LOL I'm not upgrading to a super computer. New for me. Not a top of the line card. I'm looking at a NVidia 980 Ti.
I figure I should have another 5 yrs with this PC at least.
I'm still needing to save for a lift kit and new rims for one of my Jeeps.

I actually have 2 99 Grand Cherokee Limiteds. Love my WJs. And I live about 10 minutes from an ORV park which is free for me since I'm disabled and have the pass for from the state. I bought my red one a year ago, and just bought my EXs and I's gold one that we've had for 4 years.
I live in Jeep country. They're everywhere.
