?QUESTION?
I thought I saw this but am unsure.. Is it possible to run Daz content from a drive NOT on C under Documents?
If so, is there a tutorial? I want to transfer to a portable drive in order to free up my "C"..August 24, 2022 at 11:04 PM #1860228I think all you need to do is copy your content (My Daz 3D Library) over to the external drive. Then in DS add that as a new Base Directory.

August 25, 2022 at 6:32 AM #1860285Not sure if this is what youre asking but I have the DAZ program on C everything else is on an external drive. I just dump the content folder on the external and tell Daz to use it as a source. I will install plugins on C but not scripts.
August 25, 2022 at 6:42 AM #1860292Same here @D0gg0d Another benefit is that if your C drive dies or Windows corrupts and you need to do a fresh re-install, you won't lose your entire content library. Also not a bad idea to back-up your library to another drive from time to time.
August 25, 2022 at 8:47 AM #1860343All my "extra" content is on external hard drives, which I rarely use. If you install them via DIM, the root problem is editing the .jsx files found in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Install Manager\ManifestFiles. That assuming you install it by default in the DIM options. For that, you must manage from preferences the folders to use in "content/Daz formats".
It is clear that if you have 2Tb of assets, it is a tedious job. Notepad++ can be used, open all jsx, find&replace in all documents opened, save and close. Or some script in Python or Perl....August 25, 2022 at 3:47 PM #1860443As said above.. all you have to do is copy your content folder from under Documents to wherever you want it and then add that location as a Base Directory in DS..
.. also change the folder location in DIM..take a look at this thread..
How do you move your Daz Studio and installed files to a new PC (Win)?
August 26, 2022 at 8:00 AM #1860626Thanks everyone.
I dont DIM so thats not an issue. I don't know how to add a new base directory though. I'll check out the links..August 26, 2022 at 8:57 AM #1860641There's a screenshot in the thread I gave..
You just need to right click anywhere on the Content Library.. you get an option to Add a Base Directory..
Just select the folder where you have all the content..
Done..August 26, 2022 at 3:30 PM #1860770I find it easier to drop files where I want them, I don't like Daz telling me where to put everything. Poser got me in this habit since its file structure is nonexistent.
I don't usually mess with data or texture files I just organize the objects.
You might have to every so often make a rogue file since some objects reference an oddball file.
For the most part I've found it better to keep everything off the main drive. Its slightly slower but I'm on a laptop and space is limited. You could even have multiple externals for different things that would reduce load times. All Asian characters on one drive for instance. Since tons of morphs will reaaallly slow down character load times. You can use multiple drives at once but you need to add each location under Daz. Its a simple click in the top left as stated above.August 28, 2022 at 10:53 PM #1861332Sorry for late reply.. Ive been in the hospital past few days. Cancers a bitch.
Thanks for the input.
