Oh yeah totally!
She said it won't last long and I should get a new one (that she can build)December 18, 2019 at 10:57 PM #1383489She was totally honest!
She said it won't last long and I should get a new one (that she can build)December 18, 2019 at 10:58 PM #1383493you can do 2d (hardly) with this machine but never 3d!
good luckDecember 18, 2019 at 11:00 PM #1383495It's no surprise though.
I have been playing Second Life for +10 years with my graphic settings
at the minimum possible. It gets frozen and I get black screen all the time while playing it.December 18, 2019 at 11:20 PM #1383523DAZ is a resource hungry beast. Think of your PC as a puppy trying to battle a lion. DAZ can still bring a really good computer to its knees.
December 19, 2019 at 2:39 AM #1383733Looks like I got the cheapest stuff in the market lol
December 19, 2019 at 3:30 AM #1383774End result of 4 years of tailoring towards a DAZ machine
I'm not sure of your budget, but whatever you do, you want to go with INTEL and NVIDIA. They are like the industry graphics standard. AMD says they are great, i tried to switch to them, and 3 processors and 2 motherboards later, i took it all back and went back to my Intel, tried to save a buck. Just go little by little. Mine is a piece by piece system, done over about 4 years. And it still seems to rock.
ALso, if you do like a Gigabyte or a big name brand, 4 year warranty. It might take a few weeks to send a card back, but it comes back brand new fo free. (-shipping)
My daughters machine i built for her is an i5 with a nvidia 1670ti and ran about 800 to build, you can get prebuilt ones with these specs for around 500ish when they are on sale.
Currently running i7
9700kedit: 8700k intel proc, Gigabyte nvidia Geforce 1080ti 11g extreme (ouch, still paying for this after a year), 7 SSD Drives (makes load times so much quicker), 32 gb of ram, started with 8 gb, gigabyte aorus z390 mother board (pretty lights, but i started out with a generic workstation motherboard, and an older i7), 850w powersupply (a must for beefier graphics cards). Just create your dream pc on like new egg, or microcenter, and hack away little by little. not many of us can drop 4G on a ready to go system, but over time, it can be done.December 19, 2019 at 3:37 AM #1383780Also, get Scene Optimizer, and lower your poly counts and texture resolutions until you have something beefier to render on. the usual 4k textures a lot of assets come with might be consuming alot of your gpu memory when you render. Do you really need 4096x4096 iris textures when they are only going to end up at 128x128 or something.
This reallllllllly makes a difference on machines struggling to render.

I started out where you were, many years ago. The end result is so worth it. And i'm not even in the field professionally or anything, just a hobby.
watch craigs list, and other similar sites, keep an eye for deals, for people who are unloading their exes stuff, etc... (lol, seriously)
December 19, 2019 at 3:43 AM #1383787I render on a laptop. Think its about 3 years old now, my time perception isnt great. Only had a few times I fed it to much work. Mostly 4 full characters with a ton of lights and objects. It will handle 2 full characters in a city scape pretty easy. I think you can get away with a mid range built with todays tech easily. IMHO you dont need a top of the line super build that cost 3 months salary. Just be picky what you put in it.
December 19, 2019 at 4:11 AM #1383811Agree with @d0gg0d, no need to spend tons of money. I just have serious issues when it comes to buying stuff.
December 19, 2019 at 4:16 AM #1383817The good news is that even a relatively low end (cheap..) "modern" computer and graphics card (like maybe a used GTX 1060 or 1070 if you are on a budget) will improve the quality and speed of your renders a LOT from where you are now. I recently moved from CPU rendering to a graphics card rendering with a GTX 1070TI and it changed EVERYTHING. My renders started looking like things other people post. I could use Iray in the viewport, run experimental renders on different lighting setups that only take a minute or two instead of hours, position things without freezing while Daz catches up, etc.
I have heard folks say (and with my limited experience I agree) that for Daz, the speed and memory of the graphics card matters more than the speed and memory of the main CPU. (Modern graphics include a bunch of fast memory that they can access directly without using the main computer memory...) Almost any modern NVIDIA card has enough memory to hold simple Daz scenes. There are quite a few older (but good enough for running Daz) graphics cards around for sale used.
Eventually, when you start loading more stuff into Daz with more complex textures etc, you may start to want more graphics card memory. If all your textures and stuff don't fit into the graphics card memory, then Daz seems to drop back to CPU rendering and slows WAY down, but a card with 8Gb or even 4G will let you do a lot.
FWIW, I am also new to Daz and I appreciate the questions you've been posting here and the helpful answers people have given. I've learned a lot.
December 19, 2019 at 4:18 AM #1383818OK, I looked at my system specs to give you an idea of what is working for me.
(laptop)
i7-7700 HQ CPU 2.80GHz
15.9 GB usable RAM
GeForce GTX 1070 8gbI picked it up as an open box item and saved a couple hundred bucks. Since this old tech by todays standards You could easily get a PC system equal or better than this for way less than I paid. The only thing on my mind when I was looking for a laptop was it had to have an ok nvidia videocard.
When I picked it out there were systems $1000 more and I couldn't justify spending that much on this hobby. Id rather sink that into a gun, TV or camera. Tech moves to fast today for me to dump a ton of cash into a system since I dont game online anymore. If you are doing it to make money then spend the extra cash but if its just for fun on the side, be frugal.
December 19, 2019 at 4:26 AM #1383829That's still a pretty badass laptop
