need help with iray

when using the iray skin for a model does it always appear grey till rendered?
my old pc could not handle the iray so i always used 3d delight but now that i got a much beefier system i can use the iray. is it a\lways like that or can u get the skin to show like 3ddelights show?

Use Texture Shaded for Iray, you should be able to see the skin.

Iray viewport will use a bit of time updating the screen when you switch to it, or add assets / content. You will, depending on your layout, see a progress bar for the Iray viewport filling up (a yellow bar). When it's done, it should display the scene in a semi-similar look as the finished render.
