Let’s think through all of the people that would a.) need to be in on the conspiracy and b.) how difficult this would be to hide from the public.

First there is Intel alone. They have >100,000 employees worldwide right now. Who at Intel would need to know about this? The executives that approved this. The legal team. The designers. The test engineers that test to ensure the functionality works. The motherboard and OEM support teams that work with motherboard manufacturers and OEMs. So, let’s say, collectively that is ~10% of the company. And let’s assume this has been going on since 9/11, which was almost 22 years ago. Assuming that on average ~10% of those people change jobs every year, over 22 years that number of ~10,000 people probably doubles. So, there are at least 20,000 people at Intel (or somewhere else in the industry) who know about this illegal/immoral thing that Intel is doing and yet nobody has said anything.

Then consider that there are just as many people at OEMs and motherboard manufacturers that are in the same boat. So, worldwide you have over 40,000 people who are in on it. Many of them live outside of the US and would probably have a dim view of the NSA. And a large portion will be in China, who would be highly suspect of this and would quickly blow the whistle if they found out that this was true.

    Right.

Next, let’s consider the complexity of keeping this all secret.

So imagine that large number of people all around the world, many of whom do not like Intel all having knowledge of something so sensitive that I could blow the tech world wide open. And it never surfaces. For 22 years.

More to the point, leaving that vulnerability open would most likely invite hackers in, so the idea that having a backdoor could be secured is a pipe dream. Intel would not ever agree to do this because it would destroy their business.

If your question is “can the NSA eavesdrop on me if they want?” then the answer is most likely yes. But not because of Intel, they can do it despite Intel.

The government doesn't in general want to try and get its information about you off your computer. There are much better places for them to spy. The entire phone system is designed to be tapped and the government has the "right" to tap it. It used to require a warrant in the US. In other countries it never did. There are whole companies whose business is selling "lawful intercept" the ability to record your telephone calls according to whatever laws that country has.

Every phone system has the hooks for that kind of recording built into it. The real issue is dealing with the massive amount of data that those systems generate, so that when you want to get some specific information back out, you can retrieve it. The type of data is also not an issue, the lawful intercept systems can decode text messages, attachments, documents, spreadsheets,

I wouldn't be surprised to know that they can even decrypt files, at least if the encryption isn't too strong, which is why exporting computers that can do strong encryption is not allowed to certain countries.

If the NSA wants to look through your computer, it doesn't need a backdoor. You probably haven't encrypted your hard drive. Even if you have, you probably haven't used an encryption they can't break.

Amateur hackers break into people's computers on a regular basis, without any backdoors. You don't think the professionals can't do that? And, once you realize they already can, you can see why they wouldn't want backdoors installed to make the job easier for amateurs (or other countries).

No, it doesn't require that many people to be in on it. If you've ever done any kind of work for those assholes you know that everything is compartmentalized. You are assigned a very small task that you are not aware that is part of a much bigger puzzle. And its not just our NSA. Most governments are working together on this stuff. They are all criminal enterprises with the same goal in mind: keep civilians believing they need governments and STAY IN POWER. Their ultimate goal is to keep their stranglehold on power from YOU

The US IC has their fingers in all the encryption solutions out there. There's a reason they are building massive data centers all over the world (that is putting the normies' electrical grid at risk). If you don't think they can't see anything you have connected to the internet, you're naĂŻve and probably still believe Oswald was a lone gunman who just got really, really lucky with his old WWII Italian blot action rifle. Once you know the truth, you can never see things the same way.

@oldwolf, You've got it right on the money. I used the same argument a while back with an imbecile who was convinced that 'chem trails' where mind control drugs. I also tried to educate them on the subject of vapour trails and adiabatic expansion...you know...that shit you learned in grade 10 physics. In the end she clung ever tighter to her delusion and I had to laugh and walk away.

It's not the governments we have to fear, it's the huge corporations and their marketing departments. Google is the real enemy.

@ethiopia but the corporations and the governments are all the same thing. Lots of struggles going on behind the scenes between various sides. At one time the car & oil groups had lots of power, then you have the electricity/cable monopolies and all rest of the groups, etc. And it doesn't matter which groups hold power, they never have OUR best interests in mind.

hey @Inversekinematics, not sure what a 'truther' is. But I know that we are not being told the truth and haven't been since (at least) the JFK assassination, which I wasn't even around for. It's sad how people who have been provably lied to for decades continue to believe the same people/organizations who have been lying to them. Why would anyone believe the intel agencies after the debacle that was the Iraqi war? mindboggling...

@ulysses Its been going on far longer than the JFK era. Even back in the civil war days. Lincoln's assassination was no different than JFK's. They tried again with Reagan and after he survived he "played ball" and changed his tune. They couldn't just keep assassinating every president so they changed tactics with Nixon and got rid of him a different way.

It all stems from control of the currency. The sinking of the Titanic was no accident, and they lifted the story from a novel. Some of the people against the creation of our corrupt banking system were onboard that ship. It was a hit job and in order to explain it to the public they lifted the story right from a novel that came out 14 years earlier, called "Wreck of the Titan" unsinkable ship that hit an iceberg. Literally right down to the name, Titan vs Titanic.
