If you scroll down there's a link to lists of affected MB's. Turns out that I have one.....the bastards!

that's only the tip of the iceberg. I know most chips have a small section dedicated to a linux running incognito, for corrupt POS government spooks to backdoor/take control/spy. Almost nobody knows this, you likely won't find info on it, but trust me, it's there. These asshole governments really are trying to be 1984. So you can be sure the motherboards added this as part of that greater plan.

Wait, is this for MSI motherboards? The linked thread is talking about Gigabyte motherboards.

Fortunately for me it looks like mine isn't on the list. Although mine is still a newer MSI board, so who knows if it still has a similar backdoor that hasn't been discovered yet.

Yeah I heard a lot good things about EVGA, I don't have experience with them. My gpu is a Palit, I'm happy with it. Was the cheapest and I had a tight budget.

What was the reason for your displeasure with Asus?

Asus has bee one of the best companies I've dealt with in terms of support and RMA service. They are second place next to EVGA for me. Asus' support is quick to issue a RMA after troubleshooting and the RMA replacements are delivered quickly. Asus didn't even care that I sent in a motherboard missing some parts and was obviously used for XOC for RMA replacement.

Gigabyte has consistently been the worst for the past 10-15 years. I don't even know how a company with support and RMA service so awful can even stay in business. Gigabyte has damaged products I've sent in for RAM service. Gigabyte has sent me DOA products as warranty/RMA replacement parts. Gigabyte has lost customer's RMA hardware and not replaced it for months because they can't find it and want to search the entire facility to make sure its lost before replacing it after they haven't shipped a replacement for over a month. All of this was before the hacking/ransomware they got hit with a few years ago. Their warranty/RMA service has been even worse since then.

My Warranty/RMA opinions are based on running a small side business building and maintaining custom PC's for the past 20 or so years and building and maintaining PCs for friends and family members. I probably have more experience dealing with support and RAM service for PC parts manufacturers in a few years than most people have in a lifetime.

On a side note, even EVGA can completely mess up and sometimes it takes time for them to fix it. At one point I had a graphics card die and the same model was no longer available for replacement. Their policy is to give you an equal or better performing graphics card in its place. They sent me a slower model and I had to contact a VP at EVGA to get a replacement of an equal performing model. Apparently I'm not the only one who has had this issue based on posts on the EVGA forums and elsewhere.

You don't have a Gigabyte brand motherboard. You don't have to worry about that issue.

Echelon already knows what everyone is doing anyway so MBs are neither here nor there.

The quick fix is to uninstall Gigabyte's 'App Centre' software since it looks that it's that that's the bit doing the actual downloading.

    You could also add:

    http://mb.download.gigabyte.com/FileList/Swhttp/LiveUpdate4
    https://mb.download.gigabyte.com/FileList/Swhttp/LiveUpdate4
    https://software-nas/Swhttp/LiveUpdate4

to your firewall and/or router's blocklist or use a hosts file to redirect them to 127.0.0.0, but that may also stop you downloading legitimate BIOS updates in the future.

Ohh, yeah... Understandable, Asus did employ that person. (Reminds me of a quote, I added it below.) Ever since I was in high school long ago I had good experiences with Asus motherboards, while others crapped out. I'm lucky that I haven't had to RMA any pc parts. Hoping I never have too.
