I'm thinking, I know right? Don't!, because you can either see all the black smoke, or at least smell it, as it billows out of my ears.
I feel putting an original ACTIVE link to a model/asset when posting it up in the blog should be mandatory if one expects to gain points from that item.
Obviously there are exceptions for out of date Daz items that everyone knows are Daz items and used to be for sale.
However, I've seen items posted that are free and those have an N/A or UNKNOWN in place of a link.I mention this because the whole purpose of this site is to share items for sale. If someone wants to post free items, then by all means, do so. But keep them free and don't try to gain points.
July 26, 2019 at 10:02 PM #1177373I was under the impression that an active link was mandatory for a post...I know I haven't posted anything without one, but then again, I also haven't posted any freebies (not that I would ever try to gain 'free' points - I don't need the points that badly)
July 26, 2019 at 10:55 PM #1177428They are supposed to be, but the field will also take any text instead of a link.
July 26, 2019 at 11:28 PM #1177463My solution has been to report the post to a mod, link the freebie in the free section and not download anything that does not have a link to an original product.
July 27, 2019 at 5:39 AM #1177791July 27, 2019 at 5:51 AM #1177794There has to be the facility for posting without a link for the NLAs
🙂
July 27, 2019 at 6:06 AM #1177805There is. The free section.
July 27, 2019 at 6:58 AM #1177845There is nothing wrong with posting NLAs for points.
🙂
July 27, 2019 at 7:51 PM #1178632I feel there is if they're free to begin with. As I stated in my OP, there are exceptions. Otherwise I could post up a bunch of crap that I wouldnt want people to know are actually free, and just put NLA.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is this. If someone has an asset they know isn't free, then they know where that item came from, even if a link isn't available. So instead of just saying NLA, at least put a site/vendor name where the asset came from.
Maybe you're saying people should be able to get points for free items. If so, then I disagree. Again, as stated in my OP.
July 27, 2019 at 8:12 PM #1178657I was referring to items that were sold, rather than freebies.
🙂
July 27, 2019 at 9:45 PM #1178743Seriously... yes, I agree that current free items should be free, also if shared here. But even if an item WAS free back when it was available, but is now defunct, removed, no longer available, I don't see any problem with asking for 50 points for it. Points are... fairly simple to come by. Whether it's 0 or 50 points... why even care? It's not like you're paying anything real for the item that you presumptively need, since you're getting it.
July 28, 2019 at 3:59 AM #1179020Errilhl, then why have a point system at all? Again, I said there are exceptions. Does nobody read? Or is everything selective?
July 28, 2019 at 6:00 PM #1179815In regard of "why have a point system at all ?", here is my opinion.
Peoples see the points as a kind of a currency/money system. But personnaly, i think people should just see it as a "waterdam" damper for mass downloading.
Points just tell you how much "items" you can download at a time. And everytime you visit the page, you get TWO download per day.
Personnaly, i see it as a system to prevent mass website downloading/leeching from bots.
I also see it as a system made by the host and admin of this website to prompt and encourage people to visit the page frequently and participate to it's life. Because, let's be honest, even if it is not clearly stated by the admins of this page, their goal is obvious. All they want is to have their website be alive and bustling of activities will a lot of people comming in. It's understandable after all. Isn't what every website creator want ?So this is how i see the point system and it's purpose. Everything here is free, but you are just limited to a number of download per day. You want to download more ? Just visit the website frequently. You want even more download ? Be active and participate to it's community life. By either participating in the forum, contest, filling request or posting new content items.
Even for new registered member, it's only a question of a few weeks by visiting each day that they'll quickly gather enough "download ticket". And if they keep it up, after a few month, i'm pretty sure they'll end up well over thousand of points where they'll be able to affort anything they want, regarless if it's a free item or not, and that points will just become a moot issue.
July 28, 2019 at 8:52 PM #1179970@checkit1414 , It was a rhetorical question.
However, points are NOT moot, because people find ways to get around the limits. They cheat to get points.
Members can call me an arse, a jerk or anything else. But I speak up about things because I want things to be fair for everyone. It always ends the same, with me being the bad guy, but I don't care. I can't change my scales.
July 29, 2019 at 1:07 AM #1180195I'm not going to lie I posted NA items, from models I found online, I didn't think it matter because I thought I was doing a service by posting what I found online for other people to see. I've never really posted anything before 2 weeks ago, and in that time I've only posted 5 items kinda lazy to post anymore.
I've searched this site for Star Trek stuff and only 1 person had models and it was for stuff I didn't really care about (Voyager). So I search for months for places where people had post for Star Trek stuff and thought it would be useful to post it here for other people who are actually looking for it.
Now the fact that I posted NA in the from where link "IS" because some of the items I do want to keep secret because I do want the points to buy things on here. But that doesn't really matter because anyone who is really interested can search and post it themselves. Because they don't means they just don't care...
With that said, there's many items from other Daz hosting sites that aren't posted in here that people bought an only posted there what's stopping people from mining those items and just posting the missing items that aren't posted here for points??
The way I see it, if you can get it post it. I don't spend my points on here unless I really have to... The other sites post it without using points so the point system isn't really that serious to me.
I only come to this site to see the new Design Contest and to get 1 or 2 items I may not find elsewhere. At most I would spend maybe 300 points a day. If I really needed the points I wouldn't waste my time actually posting items but entering contest for points.
When I first started on this site I came from 3 other sites. I had about 300 points I entered 1 contest and they gave me 1000 points for losing. I got more points for entering than I'm getting from the 5 items I have posted right now. (I get 20 points for my items do the math).
