I find it rather hilarious that there’s enough LaFemme products posted here on the Zone that I can count them on one hand. Even Dusk has more posted here than LaFemme.

Not sure if that’s due to the huge demographic shift of Daz vs Poser, or that LaFemme is recognized as a genuinely shit product by people not huffing Renderosity’s farts.

A little harsh, but probably not far from the truth. 🙂

I see it as far too little far too late.

I think Eelgoo pretty nailed it with this:

I see it as far too little far too late.

I think the major big problem with " La Femme " right now is not necessarly the base look of the model in itself (Althought that criteria do have a bit of impact in her popularity i believe.), but it's versatility and utility.

Daz Studio really settled some sort of basic norm nowaday with it's "Genesis base" mechanic system. In which, a single base character is used as a base for every sub character and asset made afterward for that generation.

This system make it that if you buy/acquire a character, you can not only use it as it is, but you can also "mix it" with other pass or futur character of this generation.
It's also the same thing with assets. If you buy an asset use for a character, that asset can also be shared and use on other characters of that generation.

That VERSATILITY as a HUUUUGE impact on the popularity and pleasing aspect of these products. People like it when the things they acquire can be used for more than "one thing". It's profitable! And even now, peoples have made tools to transfer/convert asset from one generation to another. Adding even more versatility to all those product.

But at this moment, "La Femme" doesn't have anything like that from what i could see. Unless i'm mistaken, she is her own base model with her sub-character and she can't use assets from other Genesis generation and vice versa unless those asset are specificaly made for her base model. So if you buy/acquire an asset or sub-character for her right now, it is usable only for her and nothing else. (Again, i may be mistaking here. Let me know if i do!) In the train of thought that some people may don't "like" the design model of La Femme, that can play a lot of her popularity.

Not only that, but she seem to be "Poser Only". Which limit a lot her utility. As most people (here at least i think) use Daz Studio. I didn't try her. Maybe she is Daz Studio useable, but not really supported i pretty sure. Which lead to a lot of possible potential problem.

To refer to what Feymarcher was saying, even Dusk and Dawn had a least a Daz Studio support. Which helped them a lot i think in their popularity and usefullness.

As funny as it sound, i think sub Genesis 8 characters made over at Rendersosity may be more usefull and popular right now than La Femme.

Quality of the skin and model sux. We can get it free here and I wont waste the HD space to install it. It isn't really even worth a download unless you're just a hard core poser user. Even then thats debatable with so many good items and skins for V4.

When I first saw her I posted this
    (https://zonegfx.com/forums/topic/la-femme-revisited/)

Ive no idea why anyone would continue to support the creation of such crap being dished out when G8 is lightyears ahead of Lafem

Yep. Even Blackhearted's Girl Next Door for V4 is basically LaFemme's shape, but on V4. In a manner of speaking.

Basically, La Femme's issues stem from the following:

    - The limited vendor support. Because of how much smaller the Poser/Daz asset store ecosystem has become, there are very few places to sell and purchase products. Most of the big name content creators have made the sound business sense to trump program loyalty and make content for what sells: and what sells right now is Genesis 8.

    - Lackluster products. What's out there is... pretty crappy. Whereas Gen4 to G8 have a wealth of clothes and accessories from every concievable genre, La Femme only has... a couple of genre clothes and mostly modern fashion and/or retools of pre-existing G8 products. And the same 4-5 vendors are the only ones making things for her. That's great if you like consistency, but not great if you like variety.

    - No extended customization. Like what @checkit1414 said, the big appeal of the Genesis line was that you could feasibly morph the figure into anything. And with V4, you have so many amazing morphs and shapes that still hold up. La Femme... has nothing of the sorts.

    - No male counterpart. Now, I could be proven wrong in a couple months, but the fact there isn't a 'La Homme' is pretty telling. Granted, male content is much more of a niche market, but it's a demographic all the same. I don't know how La Femme looks against M4 or the Poser males, but some people won't bother with a figure unless there's a gendered counterpart.

    - Lack of support from pornographers. Laugh all you want, but if the 3D porn market hasn't supported La Femme to the extent of V4, then she has no chance.

And the big one: No way to use or transfer V4 clothes/content to La Femme, not even with 3rd party utilities. I remember seeing frequent questions of whether or not people could use their V4 content with La Femme, and being told 'no'. Say what you will about Daz -and I'm no company loyalist, I'm just as critical of them as others-, but at least they have people like RiverSoft and SickleYield making transfer utilities to bring V4/M4 content to Genesis 8, however imperfect it might be. Hell, they just released a V4 to G8 Hair utility today.

The people who would use La Femme, however, are likely people who have external hard drives full of V4 content. But why would you want to use a new figure, when you already have one that still holds up to the test of time and continues to survive, thanks in large part to people making things to help bring her into the current year?

Don't get me wrong: I'm all for competition, as it helps give us healthy markets and new products. But if what's going on with La Femme so far is what Rendo and S-M believe is their A-game, then it'd be a miracle for them if La Femme makes it into year 2 at this point.

Every so often Ill pull a G3F G3M or G8M clothing, texture, pose or hair and drop it on G8F. Being able to use a G3 male shirt, G3 female pants, G3 Female texture, G3 male hair, G8 body and G3 female poses is ridiculous. ( Noting that you can change any reference male/female to the opposite sex and it will still work for the most part )
    (shoes still suck)

I haven't used Poser in well over a year. It's dead to me and I don't think they can do anything to bring it back at this point. They should sell to Daz or maybe Adobe. If Adobe can get a top notch 3D modeling program for figures and seamlessly integrate a workflow from design to final product, they'd be almost unstoppable.

@drgnmztr Hey, I just parroted back what some people in the comments at Rendo were calling a hypothetical male counterpart, lmao.

Also, compare the quality of characters for La Femme vs. Genesis 8 Female, both from the recents sections:

    https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/d9s-myla/137816/
    vs.
    https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/sc-taavi-for-genesis-8-female/137869/

(And a lot of V4 characters still hold up today too, with Iray shaders)

I think the only custom character for La Femme that doesn't look uggo is this one: https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/anuli-for-la-femme/137336/ But considering the average quality of a character for La Femme, I might be too generous here.

Barc: Considering Adobe bought the company that makes Substance Painter, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they're eyeing a prefab 3D modeling program like Daz or Poser next. Smith-Micro better start praying that Adobe doesn't acquire Daz Studio, otherwise it'd be game over for Poser.

@notenoughrupees , sorry. Thought that was Adams post. I still spit my coffee though.LOL. It was first and foremost..
I've read some of the posts. LaFemme doesn't do anything for me so.
I'm also not really a fan of V4/M4 anymore.. I also find myself using clothes and hair from different versions. Versatility is important.
However, I wish there was backward compatibility , ie G8 clothes/hair fitting G3.

All this downbeat reaction going on & Bondware see fit to buy Poser?
    I'm somewhat puzzled by that.

    @Feymarcher

If Adobe aquires Daz, it'll be game over for Daz.

"Daz Studio, now part of the creative cloud! Now only way too fucking much money a month!"

    @eelgoo

Daz used to be the redheaded stepchild program until they made it free.

Who knows what Bondware's strategy is going to be?

If they make a free Poser Basic and a for money Poser Pro, update the UI to something not dating from the mid 90s, and give it Genesis comparability they'd actually be the more functional product... though they also might want to give it a better render engine, but IMHO they could easily do that by plugging it into Octane.

    And more Lafemme content.

    Still looks all the same.

    She still doesn't have gens...

And poser really needs to toss in Geograft technology.

@daishi I never knew Daz NOT to be free. What is this you speak of? Or are talking about buying Poser and getting Daz with it? Thats how I actually learned about Daz back in the V3/4 days. You had to install Daz when installing Poser. (I hated Daz back then).
