Just an FYI for anyone who cares, it's the system, and not us mods who make point deductions for the removal of messages.
If there's a setting somewhere for that I've not been able to find it, and if it bothers anyone enough, take it up with Hunter, he controls the admin pages that us others mods do not have access too. (He sees more as he set up the Zone).
Obviously the following will not apply to our newer members, but for any of our older members who've been here a while, all I can say is quit your griping!
You've probably got more points than you know what to do with by now, so the occasional point deduction because you cannot take care to make sure that your post is correct before posting, seems only fair.
The logic that people make multiple posts because they do not want to lose points is pure crap, just take a minute or two to ensure your post is ready to go live, and you'll avoid any issues.
If there are still any problems then you can always ask a mod to help fix them, which negates the need for any kind of negativity, or point loss.
Making multiple posts to fix a typo or missing link or whatever is just pure laziness. Also for all of you conspiracy theorists out there, get a life.
(Get your tin foil hats ready!)
The merest thought that the mods get anything out of this beyond the (waning) satisfaction of helping fellow artists out is beyond me. Just accept the fact that we all get access to these files practically for free, just a few virtual points which we can easily recoup, so it's not as if it's actually costing you anything.
There's more to say but in all honesty I'm tired of beating my head against the wall of stupidity, and I cannot be held responsible for how anyone takes this message, personal or otherwise.
(And to be honest, right now, I do not care.)
Tomsk.
August 22, 2018 at 8:52 AM #726084I am probably a bit more careless with forum posts because, yes, yes grammar police, I have come to the cynical age and conclusion where I no longer care too much if I missed a letter or hit an "n" instead of an "m". I am glad my fingers want to type anymore at all. Sue me. And I am stingy with points! After all, I work so hard tracking all your dupes to earn them! 😛 When I post an item I get super paranoid and go back and forth a few times to check it though, probably way too much! 😛
But I do think it is really sad that someone like Tomsk, who seems to be a pillar of this community, has to resort to what seems a very fed up post in the first place. Moderating is in many cases a very thankless job, without any reward or glory and deserves all the appreciation and thanks we can give these guys.
So Tomsk and Monk thank you so very much for all the time you spare to look after this place. For being the kind, patient and diplomatic handlers of chaos that you are! And thanks to Hunter for keeping this place running! These guys are diamonds... I think we ought to not piss them off so much they don't want to be around. 🙁

@vegaso I beleave there could be some magic stuff going on here, someone is trying to mess with our minds, Jedi, perhaps
August 22, 2018 at 11:53 AM #726266As someone who has been moderating and setting up several online communities over the years: there's no doubt about it that moderators (and admins) are the ones that both get the most flak, and the least praise. Doing it on a voluntary basis does beg that there is a tiny bit of masochism going on 😉
That being said, there is a LOT to gripe about on here - especially stupidity, or the lack of ability to search for stuff (granted, I've been the doer of these errors myself, mainly because I couldn't spell when I checked for one item, and another I think I wasn't aware that it was in another bundle). The occassional error is forgiveable.
The double-posting, the lack of actually checking your post after it's ready to go up, or when it's actually up (check to see if there is a -2 on the end - if it is, ask a mod to take it down, since it's a duplicate), the abundance of non-custom content in the "Custom content" category, the posting of free items... all these things are... sometimes painful to just watch.
So, kudos to the mods/admins!
August 22, 2018 at 12:21 PM #726300The biggest difference between this site and the other sharing sites is, as far as I can tell, there appears to be no financial benefit to Hunter in running this site. It is true altruism. He is really a hero for that imo. As anyone who has done it can attest, modding mostly sux. They are the janitors and maintenance workers of the site. Sure, they have the keys that get them into most of the rooms in the building, but they have to use them to clean up messes and fix stuff 95% of the time.
People bitch and moan. I have done it myself. I would't worry about it or let it get to you @tomsk. There seems to be a growing discontent in the community as a whole. A disruption in the force so to speak. From my experience, communication is the key. When we screw up, it's nice to have a well defined FAQ on acceptable behavior, the rules and the way things work. People get more testy when they don't know these things and the mods can always just point to the FAQ and tell them to read it. The information seems to be spread out over several posts in different threads. I know, I know: a suggestion that means more work for the mods o_0

We've covered what we can for now in the FAQ, and we're always willing to add more if needed. The only problem is actually getting people to read it in the first place.
Common sense should be exercised by all members, assuming they have it to begin with, far too many people are all too willing to resort to complaining in the hope that someone else will either explain things to them, or clean up their mess.
There is only so much we can do, and only so much we are willing to do.

This is a universal truism. I have modded a few sites in my time. No one reads the dang FAQ's or Rules. I'd just tell the complainers to quit bitching and read the FAQs.

Well I'm not pointing fingers, though I might have to for the stupid one's lol.
August 22, 2018 at 8:43 PM #726755I don't know, sometimes pointing a bit and a good slap on the wrist might shake some of those sleeping brain cells loose, you never know. If it works you have spared the world of one less idiot? If not move on and don't suffer the stupidity. But I get it. The number of times I sit down for the first time in a day and just shout "OMG PEOPLE! Take them all away!"
As it is though some repeat offenders of some of the more common offences do not seem to get a hint. Worst case scenario, implement some kind of ban where they can look but not touch for a few days. As in no up or downloads. I can already see the posts... "Why can't I download this?" Ah well, may be worth a try.
I mean It seems pretty obvious who makes a mistake and who is just constantly careless. Those of us who do just mess up, when we upload stuff after we had too many veggies are usually quite happy to admit we did wrong and do apologise for it from what I have seen.
