yea @jason that seems to be a combination of the base nvidia vmaterials installer
and the conversion from shareCG with install instructions, although I haven't downloaded it as of yet. but it might make the process simpler to get it.January 31, 2018 at 7:01 PM #479583Thank you @Skinklizzard for the links I really am trying to get some nice translucent shaders for Iray and I am leaving no stone unturned for this I installed keyshot 7 and inside this app it's very easy to get the translucent material just with drag and drop but when exported as obj into daz it became opaque and this is maybe because the Marvelous designer settings aren't as daz's but keyshot is just wonderful as an answer if only daz import worked and what I noticed is that keyshot puts the translucent as a separate category not with thew fabrics
I also installed the nvidia Iray shaders

and used some of them but the rendering is the same as yesterday's no difference in rendering though you see the viewport shows a different texture and material

when you look closer it's clearer
January 31, 2018 at 7:20 PM #479599I think I should change the environment lighting settings
January 31, 2018 at 9:13 PM #479698So I apologize in advance as this is going to be a picture heavy post.
I'll go through using a .png as a cutout Opacity map to get a suitable look as well as briefly look at the result from the vmaterials design chiffon shader.so here is the base render of the dress I chose with no changes or transparency applied.

now I decided the dress would look pretty good if the underskirt part were slightly transparent/gauzey.
so first thing we do is go to cutout opacity in the surface tab (not all materials will have this) and choose browse.

I then chose a .png from the textures included in vmaterials, but any .png texture with alpha should work.

now this texture wasn't designed for the dress part and so looks quite weird to start and definitely not what I wanted.

so we go back to cutout opacity and choose the image editor
and we adjust the tiling of the .png texture to make the pattern smaller.

this now gives a better look but one I still wasn't quite happy with
so I doubled the tiling both horizontal and vertical to be 20
as well as upping the color scaling on the other tab to 2.

resulting in this render

switching to the basic vmaterials chiffon shader with no settings changed

we get this:
January 31, 2018 at 11:26 PM #479820thanks @Ethiopia for the lighting effects on this type of cloth/fabric/translucency yes you're right as I fumbled with the settings I got very different illuminations and reflections also the dome orientation if there is one and here is one last render with the nvidia iray from the CG Share link @Skinklizzard provided

as for the image heavy tutorial i just printed it into a PDF for tomorrow and I'll be back with my testing but thank you very much @Skinklizzard (very difficult for me to forget this username)February 1, 2018 at 8:27 PM #480832Hi @Ethiopia and @ Skinklizzard,
Really I'd like to thank you both for your time effort and great ideas. I finally got what I wanted to learn thanks to you and thanks to you. Well today i started with a Marvelous designer quick cloth and back in daz I applied Iray Uber fabric Silk Blue to it. Then I applied the cutout texture as indicated in the tutorial snaps and immediately the result was there

Then as @Ethiopia noted the result lacked in quality because the lighting wasn't set right so fighting again with the lighting i decided to use the dreamlight studio samples to save time

then I set the dome rotation to 45 degrees instead of 270 they have on their samples

then I had the idea of using the layered image editor to scale the png texture by 50 percent but the difference didn't make a real difference

then i tried the tilings as @Skinklizzard did and the difference was in the color scale of 2 instead of 1 that made the dress less translucent but with a better look

and after fumbling with the Dreamlight lighting settings I got this result which I am far more than fine with thanks to both @Ethiopia and @Skinklizzard

Great thanks again

I tried the NVIDA shaders, very nice collection indeed.
February 3, 2018 at 5:05 AM #482377I realised I posted this in the wrong thread a few days ago...
This is literally just a daz iray uber shader (metal/rough) –
metallicity 0.5
glossy reflectivity 0.2,
refraction index 1.0
refraction weight 0.2just add bump/normal and/or pop a texture map in the glossy reflectivity and/or roughness channel.

very interesting settings thanks I'll dig into this for more interesting clothes@norbertz I tired to fumble with other textures from the nvidia data folder and following Skinklizzard's ideas I used a hexagon shader on basic daz bras and faulani pants
and here is what I got

@jason david
Looks great! Is that Nvida's wire mesh shader?
A super Hero type outfit in the making perhaps?February 3, 2018 at 8:16 PM #483038Yeah @norbertz it's among the vMaterials>Design> Textures> hexagon_10t_msk.png
February 5, 2018 at 1:33 AM #484432That's a perfect example of why if you make clothes you should always have the hem separate, so if you use a transparent texture it doesn't have unrealistic edges. The bra is fine, the pants look silly.
February 5, 2018 at 1:49 PM #484942depends on the mindsets
February 5, 2018 at 5:05 PM #485111If thats a shader on the pants, increase the tiles and it will look better
