Does anyone please know a quick way to render Iray fabrics translucent? Thanks

GREAT Ethiopia...thank you very much as it works like a charm.

you could also choose a fabric material like chiffon or other already slightly translucent fabric

    Hi Skinklizzard,
Are these materials available in the library?

on checking no they're not available by default, but are part of nvidias vmaterials set which requires a little bit of work to get into daz yourself.
someone did make a set of daz mats from them with instructions (will still require you to install vMaterials though) available Here at ShareCG
I haven't downloaded them myself as I couldn't be bothered to sign up to do so though.

Refraction (left) is for translucent materials (glass, jello, etc)

Cutout Opacity is for things with holes in them (fabric, mesh, etc)

The difference in CG really is, refraction also has a refraction index (IOR) that bends light the way real materials do (an index of 1 is no refraction as in this image, you can look up various materials IOR values if you want accurate settings.

Opacity (in this case cutout opacity) just makes things see through, or at full value, invisible. sometimes in some software this will affect their reflectivity and such, which you may not want (e.g glass can be both see through AND fully reflective)

I don't usually play with it, but you've always got the top coat as well. I think if you use a cutout opacity that'll affect the topcoat too, but if you use refraction I _think_ you can use a base material with a topcoat.

Of course, for 'slick' materials you could use opacity cutout AND topcoat (so base material is lace, topcoat is your gloss)

I tend to make my materials elsewhere as metallicity/roughness maps and import them so I don't tend to have to mess around that much.

All that said, I would definitely use an opacity map, rather than simply adjusting the setting, obviously most materials aren't actually transparent, though many are of course translucent (which is where with many materials you want to use SSS to get 'real' appearance)

very technical stuff, no wonder the daz site doesn't have much translucent clothing...In the beginning i tried to reduce the translucency but to no avail I also tried to loqd in some translucent stuff and copy from its the parameters and also played with the refraction and type of Iray material such as silk but the cutout opacity worked so nice.... a hat with a diaphanous veil; filmy wings of a moth; gauzy clouds of dandelion down; gossamer cobwebs; sheer silk stockings; transparent chiffon; vaporous silks

Your best bet for fabrics is probably to find a cutout texture that matches the weave in conjunction with the shader and settings.
I used the cutout texture for lace leggings with a shader for wireframe holograms and a base color map for burlap,
so its not ideal but here is an example

the texture is showing here thanks to the shaders of wireframe holograms and burlap as the cutout opacity somehow erases the cloth patterns. I went again to Marvelous designer and tried to export a cloth from there after playing with the settings and type of material from which I did 2 examples chiffon and muslin...but inside daz things get different as i converted the cloth from prop to figure and fitted it to the original female figure I used in MD but daz didn't even recognize G3F and messed up the dress... so I guess I have to follow the steps you did for this cloth as it is well done.
Here are the 2 images one with the cloth and the other without cloth and I bet the second one looks far more NATURAL ...

these shaders from ShareCG are pretty decent for shear fabrics with shine.

here is an example using the above shader for the oversized shirt

    the leggings use these

but with base color set to black
