Just thinking aloud here, really.
Whilst I appreciate that character conversion from G9 to G8 is problematic, I have looked at some recent G9 characters whose promo portraits look good. On further investigation, I see that the body morphs generally are underwhelming, & probably not worth the effort.
This has led me to wonder what would be involved to transfer of just the head morphs?
I am not interested in the textures at all.
Knowing that G9 eye transfer is particularly problematic, I would not be averse to sticking with G8 eyes.
If I were to try it, I have a few basic questions.
How difficult is this?
What software would I need?
What would be the best approach?:0/
March 5, 2025 at 4:10 PM #2120536If no other solutions pop up and all else fails, the simplest way might be just to render the character face from front, left and right profiles and use facegen and/or face transfer on the rendered images
March 5, 2025 at 4:21 PM #2120540As I haven't got any G9 installation, I could work direct from the promo renders.
I have done that before & got good results.
It certainly isn't a quick option though.🙂
March 5, 2025 at 5:47 PM #2120549actually the eyes are not that much different to g81f actually. You can use g9f eyes's textures on g81f, they are the same 99.9%. Here how its done:
+Load g9.
+Load the eye textures that you want. There are 16 different eyes textures set, each with 3 variation for a total of 48 options.
+After you are done choosing, click on the g9 eyes, then file-save as shader preset. Then load the g81f, select the following surfaces: irises, sclera, pupil and load the PBR shader on them (the pbr shader that came with g81f, in the default resource folder).
+Load the shader preset you saved back then on these 3 surfaces, and done!
You can do the same for the eyes moisture and cornea surfaces too, but those surfaces dont need PBR shader.
One more thing, because of how g9's eye works, they use LIE to combine the textures so the loading time of those shader preset would be pretty long. You can go directly to the temp shader after you are done choosing your eyes: C:\Users\ANON\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\temp to copy the textures and save them elsewhere, or you can use map copier gatherer, available here on zonegfx, to save the eye preset. This will greatly decrease the loading speed.
Also the sclera options dont matter, only sclera 1 and sclera 2, medium, are good looking, so you just choose one and stick with it.
Doing this 48 times and you will have all of them eyes textures. A bit menial work but its not that bad, you just need to do it once. Some entrepreneurs can even do it and sell the result here for points, haha. I just have about 10 eyes presets that I like saved.
Also it works on g8f too, not just g81f, just remember to set the irises, pupil, sclera UVs to 81f.
As for the head morph, use wrap3d, but manual edits in blender/maya/whatever is a given(usually to fix the eyes and teeth/mouth position.)March 5, 2025 at 5:53 PM #2120551Thanks for the detailed reply. 🙂
TBH If I have to install G9, I would sooner leave it be.
I was hoping that by now there might be some bespoke script to do some / all of the job.

March 5, 2025 at 5:53 PM #2120552oops I forgot temp's textures will be deleted after you closing Daz so you have to go the map copier-gatherer way. Well its better this way anyway.
Also you can stick them irises and scela textures together in photoshop if you want, its in Runtime\Textures\DAZ\Characters\Genesis9\Base\Eyes.March 5, 2025 at 6:02 PM #2120555the script for eyes textures convert should be pretty simple, its just copy-paste in essence. Too bad I dont know how to script haha.
As for the head morph, you can try this tutorial:
Also daz allows AI generated head morphs now:

March 10, 2025 at 10:16 PM #2121308@eel, typically there're just two ways of converting G9 morphs to G8F/M, Fit Suit method, and Faceform Wrap...but unfortunately the original HD Morphs (dhdm files) cannot be converted.
Both of the above ways requires G9 Starter Essentials package, you have to install it beforehand.
Fit Suit method is pretty easy. Faceform Wrap (cracked) is a bit complex but if you made a node template, you'd be able to repetitively use it for any converstion of G9 > G8. But I still recommend Fit Suit mehtod which is super easy. Some post-work for re-rigging, fixing corrective morphs will be needed...if you want the converted head morph work really well.
Converting all the texture maps can be done in FaceForm Wrap or Blender. I most of the time used Texture Atlas + Faceform Wrap. There ARE some workload indeed ~~
Which character product are you referring to ? If I have it, I can quickly convert a head morph for G8F or G8M ~~
March 11, 2025 at 1:04 AM #2121325Thanks.
That is most helpful, Richard.
TBH Every now & then there is the odd one G9 character that actually grabs my attention.
I'll have a think about it & PM you.🙂
March 11, 2025 at 11:15 AM #2121369You can do it all within Daz Studio. You just need to be willing to start installing some Genesis 9 files. You only need to install the base files, any character you want to convert and the mmx clone set "Genesis 9 for all". Not sure of the name of that one. Once you have done it a few times, it is a breeze.
March 11, 2025 at 12:42 PM #2121381Really. OK, that is interesting.
That sounds very similar to Richard's G9 to G8 clothing clone.
No eye issues?

March 11, 2025 at 2:08 PM #2121387Right ~ Fit Suit method which can be just done within Daz Studio. Actually there's another way within DS: Transfer morph target from G9 to G8 by using Transfer Utility plus Clones. However, I really don't recommend that way because there'll be distortion on eyeballs as well as on eyelids when Eyes Closed or Blink. You have to further fix them by using external applications ~~
@eel, job done ~ Pls check you PM ~~ Have fun !
March 11, 2025 at 2:13 PM #2121389Thanks a lot for that, my friend.
Much appreciated.
🙂
March 11, 2025 at 2:30 PM #2121398No problem ! 😀
