Okay, maybe it is because I incorporated the Topsy morph and dorked with scaling, but seriously - this kind of bend could not have passed QA at DAZ, could it?
November 4, 2022 at 3:12 PM #1885928Yes, I get the impression they spent a lot of time on the head area & glossed over much of the rest.

November 11, 2022 at 12:05 PM #1888716well how else are the PAs going to sell ten thousand joint corrective products?
November 11, 2022 at 3:04 PM #1888811Yep, back to the same old bottomless money pit of fixes and add-ons.
November 12, 2022 at 3:10 AM #1889029Yes it's sad isn't it. Probably a result of making a uni-sex figure but I can't remember if G1 had the same issue. V4.2 certainly did but it was fixed with a number of correction morphs.
So here we are with the same problem we had 20 years ago..... fucking ridiculous for a brand new generation model.
So many were expecting something like soft-body dynamics with G9/DS5 but I'd just settle for a figure that bends somewhat correctly.... obviously too much to ask from Daz.
We can forget stuff like this....November 12, 2022 at 8:50 AM #1889111Bad, but not half as bad as the pectorals which essentially aren't moved convincingly by raised shoulders.
Realistically raising arms on a female character? Just forget it.
And I can not imagine how to solve this problem with an add-on. It makes G9 almost unusable for me, as glam poses definitely don't work, no matter the amount or lack of clothing.November 12, 2022 at 11:51 AM #1889215Yep. That certainly wasn't an issue with G8.
I am more looking at retrofitting the cream of G9 to G8.
(There isn't that much yet! :0/ )
At least there you have a proven mature base figure.
:0/November 16, 2022 at 10:37 AM #1890867I actually found the solution to both of these problems buried in the DAZ forums.
In the Parameters tab under
ActorGeneral -> Misc
is a slider called
"Base Joint Correction" with a default of 0%. It needs to be set to 100%. Job done.November 16, 2022 at 11:38 AM #1890899Whoever did the pre-launch checks really f***ed up!
🙁
November 16, 2022 at 12:24 PM #1890919It's almost unbelievable, isn't it?
November 16, 2022 at 2:44 PM #18909811. Small but gentle correction: It is under "General -> Misc"
2. You have GOT to be fucking kidding me. The default is set at 100%, but nobody thought to set the init value at 100%? And WHY is this just not set to 100% anyway and made hidden?
I'm going to need some booze in this coffee.
November 16, 2022 at 5:11 PM #1891044hummm... I guess you should download an updated version of G9 Essentials.
here the "Base Joint Correction" is loading 100%November 19, 2022 at 7:28 AM #1892013In the great Daz tradition of screwing things up and then having to fix them, they're now selling (for $10.49) a geo-graft navel and nipple add-on for Genesis 9. Next will be a correction morph to fix the base joint corrections that don't do much. Do they not know how to make a base model that works out of the can? Did they plan it that way for sales revenue or are they simply incompetent? Take your pick.
November 19, 2022 at 9:29 PM #1892324I was going to port some Genesis 8 characters to G9 but the Phalanx bones in some hand poses go west and doesn't have a twist morph to put them back into place, and those eyes going all over the place is also off putting.
Looking at the renders I can't tell the difference between G9 or G8 once morphs are applied.
Is G9's skin any better than G8, I don't thinks so. So, I'm putting G9 in storage with a label W.I.P. for the time being until I see some real improvements.November 19, 2022 at 11:50 PM #1892340G9 isn't better. Its just different.
The reality is that textures are NOT what we should be looking at. They can be placed on any figure. (Yes... more regions on G9 means you can have more detail .... but who cares!)
Early G3F was pretty meh... early G8F was ok.. I guess. Current G8F is pretty killer IMO, and G9F is about that quality.
But I think the degree of failure here by Daz can't be understated. They were a group of Poser employees who broke off to make and sell models. Genesis 9 is an utter failure for a company founded to make and sell models. They did a shit job.
I'm really not interested in G9... I suppose I'll get dragged screaming and kicking later on, but lets face it... I can get this stuff for free here, and I'm not interested.
[Full disclosure, I wasn't interested in G8 initially, but when COVID hit, I blew money out the window on it. I'm happy with it, but its not a way better model than G3.]
