...scripts and plugins are mostly broke. Really broken.

Instead of grubbing through release notes, I made AI do it for me (Grok in this case.) What it came up with was fairly easy to verify, and it's going to break a lot of scripts and plugins that we already have and use:

    --------------------
Based on recent discussions in the DAZ 3D forums, the issues with scripts not working in DAZ Studio 2026 Beta (version 6.x) stem from several key changes introduced in this major update. Note that not all scripts are affected—compatibility varies depending on the script's complexity, features used, and whether it's encrypted or a plugin. Here's a breakdown of the primary reasons:

    1. Changes to the Scripting Engine and API/SDK. The 2026 Beta represents a significant overhaul, including updates to the underlying scripting engine, SDK, and UI framework (e.g., Qt dependencies). These modifications can break older scripts that rely on deprecated or altered functions. For example, scripts using specific API calls may fail because the compatibility has been disrupted, requiring developers to rework and update them.
Plugins (distinct from pure scripts) are particularly impacted and generally require full recompilation with the new SDK to function.

    2. Encryption Schema Changes. There's a shift in the encryption method between DAZ Studio 4.x (DS4) and 6.x (DS6/2026). Scripts encrypted in DS6 often won't run in DS4 due to this incompatibility, and some cross-version issues arise in the reverse.
Encrypted scripts (.dse files) are harder to fix or migrate, as the encryption prevents easy editing. Unencrypted scripts (.ds files) have better cross-version compatibility but may still need adjustments. A workaround mentioned: Edit scripts in DS6 first, then encrypt them in DS4 to make them work in both versions.

    3. Version-Specific Behaviors and Alpha-to-Beta Transition. The early Alpha builds (pre-Beta) were proof-of-concept versions not optimized for script support, leading to widespread failures. While the Beta has improved stability, lingering issues persist for scripts not yet updated by vendors.
Dependencies on external frameworks like Qt mean some changes are beyond DAZ's control, affecting scripts that use those features.

    Specific Examples of Affected Scripts.

    • LOD (Level of Detail) scripts: Fail entirely in Alpha/Beta builds.
    • Iray Light Manager Pro: An older script that doesn't function due to age and API shifts.
Render Queue: May not appear or load in the Beta interface.
    • Texture copy scripts (e.g., from figure to geograft): Break with API errors.
Other mentions include pose controls and custom utilities that work partially but require manual reopening or pane reattachment (e.g., Power Pose).

    Solutions and Workarounds:

    • Update or Recompile: Contact the script/plugin developer for a 2026-compatible version. DAZ could potentially provide migration tools for .dse files, but none are confirmed yet.
    • Manual Configuration: For some scripts like Power Pose, reopen them via the interface (e.g., right-click in a pane and add it back) or copy user layouts/folders from older versions (e.g., from %appdata%/Daz 3D/Studio4 to Studio6).
    • Test Unencrypted Versions: If possible, use or distribute unencrypted scripts to avoid encryption pitfalls.
    • Beta Expectations: As a beta, it's not fully production-ready; stick to stable DS4 for critical workflows until updates roll out.

If you're encountering a specific script error, sharing details (e.g., error messages or script names) could help narrow it down further. For official support, check the DAZ 3D help desk or the ongoing beta thread on their forums.

btw, this also happened from the transition from DAZ Studio 3 to DAZ Studio 4. (if you look at older plugins/scripts from that era, they had both DAZ Studio 3 and 4 scripts included or sold individually. it's just the difference is between now and then was DAZ was much smaller and lesser known (and DAZ Studio 4 is when DAZ moved from a few hundred dollars to free for the software), back when DAZ Studio 3 was out. so now because DAZ is mainstream software, to many this feels like a scam, which it isn't and is also why DAZ Studio 4 lasted as long as it did (because the next version would have broken everything anyways)

Broken plugins/scripts and DAZ's removal of tools such as morph saving is why I keep older versions handy.

Hello, I'm relatively new to DAZ, so I didn't know that each new full version breaks so many things. Well, I guess I'll wait for quite some time after its release before mesing with it. Not only because there will surely be a lot of bugs to iron out, but also because content generation will take some time. I hope they won't follow the current trend of enshittificating everything, but, honestly, a lot of previous posts about this beta have made me very pessimistic.

    Best regards,

I figure in my case, I'm going to have to figure on keeping two versions around - one for the scripts I have, the other for whatever new bells/whistles.

From the 'Arr, Matey!' standpoint, it's going to take awhile before a lot of the scripts we use now make their way to DS6 compatibility (preliminary testing shows that some scripts did come over just fine - Fit Control stands out as an example.)

(I haven't upgraded my DS4 install since doing so removes 3Delight... I have a lot of ancient stuff around that I still want to use from time to time.)

I asked google AI if I it was OK to get excited about the newest version, it told me "yes". I'm not sure just yet, but I might need to calm down.

Not a fan of the script breaking nonsense but I might follow you Grouchy in having two versions installed. Seems like one of the biggest positives about it is loading and saving time decrease along with nvidia 5000 series support. I don't mind the load times if I can use my scripts and I have a 4070ti so... unless there's something else in this new version, not sure that I'll mess with it.

There is this as well though:
"Check your GPU: If you have an NVIDIA 30, 40, or 50-series card, go straight to the Render Settings. The Beta is optimized to squeeze every drop of power out of those "Tensor cores" that 4.24 sometimes ignores."

TBH I am happy to stay with 4.24.

I don't like risking plug in breakage for a marginal gain, whilst encouraging Daz to go for the subscription model & online requirements, which seem very much on the cards.

    Don't encourage them!

    @eelgoo
I did some digging with google AI and it says any online requirement is nothing more than using DIM to install and then the normal online login that 4.24 has that you can set to "work offline". I won't touch the thing if it's not free and has to login/phone-home nonsense; really not digging the script breaking thing either. I'm going to continue developing on 4.24 until I'm certain there's no issues with this new version but I want to be open about to make sure I'm not missing out on anything.

At this rate, I'll probably never DS6. Does anyone know if 4.25 is bug-free? I'm still on 4.24.

since were all using AI, ive asked another AI to fact check grok answer:

Short answer: the forum post is partly correct but exaggerated and contains several inaccuracies and speculation presented as fact.
Below is a point-by-point fact-check based on actual discussions in the DAZ Studio beta forums.

    Overall verdict

About ~60–70% accurate, but misleading in tone.

    What’s true:

The new DS 6 / 2025–2026 beta introduces major internal changes.

Plugins definitely break and must be recompiled.

Some scripts break, especially those using removed APIs or GUI code.

    What’s misleading:

“Scripts and plugins are mostly broken” → not universally true.

Encryption compatibility claims → largely speculative or incorrect.

Several examples and workarounds are unverified or anecdotal.

    @peepshow45
From what I gathered off AI, there is no 4.25; 4.xx jumped to 6.xx.

4.24.0.4 is the most recent & current Beta.

TBH I find it pretty decent & stable. 🙂

4.24.0.3 is the current public release.

4.24 seems to load iray slow for me but I honestly haven't had a crash in a long time.

@Eelgoo, Ah, thanks. That's what I meant. I figured 4.25 would be the last.

@Poe, The lack of crashing is always reassuring. I'm updating mine now.

My production copy is 4.24.0.3 - version 4.24.0.4 breaks 3Delight (intentionally - DAZ stopped licensing it entirely. I think they were the last company on Earth to do so 😀 )

For shits and grins, I ran through a huge quorum of my scripts last night to see what worked and what didn't (and I have a ton of scripts). Many scripts like Fit Control actually worked just fine. The majority of the other scripts either failed to load entirely, or they coughed up an error dialog. Some scripts, like the batch Pose Converters from Zev0, did work, but were very, very, very slow compared to running in 4.x (the G9 -> G8~G3 one was the slowest.)

    @poepogue
    - Good catch on the optimizations for later GPU cores. I hadn't noticed any speed differences, but now I want to test it and find out (though I only have an RTX 4060, so it's not like I have any kind of fire breathing GFX card...)
