December 13, 2021 at 3:12 PM #1757560I've really enjoyed Deepsea's texture sets. They have an amazing real-feel to them, even close-up, but are still light and fast at render time. I do find that I have to give them a touch of red/pink tint, though, as they sometimes tend to look waxy under certain lighting conditions.
December 13, 2021 at 3:24 PM #1757562December 14, 2021 at 4:48 AM #1757680One example and one interesting article about using old G3, V7/M7 skins on genesis 8. Fairly impressive and, according to the author, superior to new g8 skins. Going to experiment to see for myself.

https://thinkdrawart.com/making-skin-pop-with-the-daz-studio-iray-uber-shader-part-1December 14, 2021 at 9:20 AM #1757748Those tweaks by DA Melissa were to get rid of the over-brownness/redness which I mentioned earlier, and to give some depth to the skin. The new so-called PBR shaders in many cases do nothing to achieve that effect. You really need to dig into the nodes, with Iray preview on, and adjust things, mostly transmitted and SSS colour. Increasing the red colour saturation of SSS actually makes the skin less red. Sometimes I pull all the maps out and adjust the saturation and hue on the maps themselves, but small adjustments can have a big effect so you need to be careful.
Probably don't have to mention this, but once you have a good set-up save it off as a material pre-set for later. I have 6 "good ones' saved for use, but usually use just one with various tweaks, my favourite based on the textures/shaders of Bridget 8.December 14, 2021 at 1:36 PM #1757794@pumpher, thanks for the helpful links. It was interesting to read.
@frank22, as for me, I prefer fine-tuning the light in the scene. After all, as we all know, light ultimately decides everything. And even excellent skin can be very easily ruined by an unsuccessful light. Just as the opposite is true.
I prefer to correct redness or any other inaccuracies of the skin at the post-processing stage in PS, which is much faster.December 16, 2021 at 10:27 AM #1758304For me Kayleyss' skin textures (Aurore, Michelle) beat them all. I don't know what he does, if he includes some displcement maps or whatever to look that realistic on hands or knees.
As an alternative I use some of Raiya's skins, but these are definitely second choice.December 16, 2021 at 10:58 AM #1758309Not my favourite but they are very high quality. The artist Phoenix1966 (PHX).
December 16, 2021 at 1:21 PM #1758351@ColdBeer31, thank you! Aurora is definitely a great option. I noticed that she weighs 718 MB. It turns out she has 116 textures in 2k-4k res!
@cage, thank you for Phoenix1966! His/her Andie I will definitely try.In general, it's amazing how many good characters I missed.
December 16, 2021 at 2:22 PM #1758373I find Madarocsi's characters at Renderhub to be interesting but expensive. 🙂
December 17, 2021 at 9:03 AM #1758658@yngvarr, you're welcome. Phoenix1966 has another store on Renderostiy with some of the best male skins around.
@coolcat, I'm amazed by the detail of Madarocsi characters, haven't really look at them before. Would like to know if those fingerprints would show up in some database if they were scanned 🙂December 17, 2021 at 9:11 AM #1758660 -
