I have about a hundred characters in my collection, but only one favorite skin. This is Millawa 8 from Daz store. Many others are also good, for example, Keyana for Genesis 8 Female or a couple from Mousso.
Which character's skin is your favorite?
Maybe we'll make a rating. Please share your favorites. The more the better.December 11, 2021 at 12:21 AM #1756856For Caucasians I prefer to use the Bridget 8 skin textures. It has imperfections, which I like, and multiple translucency presets. I've needed to make several adjustments to the textures to suit different characters.... nipple size/darkness, freckles/no freckles, with and without eyebrows, etc. After changing the transmitted and SSS colours it looks quite good. Most of the skins are too brown or red for my liking.
December 11, 2021 at 1:10 AM #1756876@legolas18, I've read about this technique, but haven't tried it yet. I will definitely test it. Thanks! Victoria 8.1 - recorded.
@frank22, with the help of a Skin Builder, I suppose? Bridget 8 - recorded. Thanks!December 11, 2021 at 2:44 AM #1756884December 11, 2021 at 8:02 AM #1756917I used to mainly use Digital Touch's character textures as they are consistent when using multiple characters and didn't give that weird effect when you use two characters from different artists and they've used different techniques to build their skins.
Recently though, I've been converting all the female characters I use a lot to skins I've built myself using Skin Builder as I can control things like tan levels and add age spots, make up amd pubic hair textures etc to the base skins very easily. They also give good results when I transfer my scene to Blender for final rendering.
I just wish Zev had also made a male version; almost all of my male characters have to share a single skin with tweaks to the diffuse and translucency channels to differentiate them.
December 11, 2021 at 9:47 AM #1756926@terahurts, "weird effect" - I've never thought about it that way. I always thought the more different the characters the better 🙂
About Skin Builder - a great plugin, but it turns out pretty monotonous skins. I mean the possibility of applying makeup, etc. Changing makeup in the SB is a very long process.
Digital Touch’s characters - recorded. Thanks!December 11, 2021 at 10:40 AM #1756938@Yngvarr, It's not so much 'different' as inconsistent between artists. For example, you have two character loaded from different artists and they have wildly different trans and SSS settings or qualities of texture maps so when you render it looks odd, like one character is more or less 'lifelike' than the other or the skin tones just look wrong when compared to one another.
I won't deny SB is slow and some of the options are limited (I'd love more mole placement options for example) but I tend to build new characters and skins when I'm having a case of artist's block or not feeling hugely creative about setting up a new scene so I don't mind spending the time tweaking stuff. I do wish Zev had included an option to save out the base skin settings though; I've got a folder full of text documents, one for each character, that list all the various settings for each tab in SB so I can recreate skins with slightly different characteristics.
December 11, 2021 at 11:39 AM #1756958December 11, 2021 at 12:26 PM #1756970@terahurts, if there are two or more characters in the scene, I initially select the skins so that it is harmonious and diverse. I think two characters with very similar skin make the result a bit boring. Your approach to working in the SB is interesting, although time-consuming for me. If the SB worked faster...
@izabela, good choice, especially Gaia, I somehow missed her! Gaia HD, Angharad 8, Juan Carlos 8 - recorded. Thanks!December 11, 2021 at 12:46 PM #1756976I don't have a favorite, it all depends on what scene I'm doing what look I'm going for I usually add to any of the skins I use with SB or PS or other recourses changing stuff in the surface tab adding diff bump maps ect..
December 11, 2021 at 1:37 PM #1756993I think the imperfections are what sell it for me, it makes the material look more realistic and therefore prettier in my eyes.
December 11, 2021 at 7:30 PM #1757114December 12, 2021 at 1:56 PM #1757330I thought I would chime in on this one. for curvy I usually go with Dominika Hd
anything else I end up with a Isource Texture or bluejaunte. cant beat the smiles that come with bluejaunte characters. I have also photoshopped alot of those textures to either add or remove features. but yeah those are the bomb in IrayDecember 12, 2021 at 2:38 PM #1757337@cerealpirate, Dominika Hd and others iSourceTextures chars, bluejaunte chars – recorded. Thanks!
December 12, 2021 at 5:54 PM #1757379@littlepleasures, it would be interesting to see your results. Can they be found somewhere (PM if you like)? I have seen some works using modified textures and with special settings SSS, and they looked more realistic, but not so much better to spend so much effort.
