A particular area of deterioration is with zips.
Some merchants used to take the time & care to actually make them functional.
It is very rare to see that today.
Other morphs can quite often be succesfully transferred between items, but I suspect that functional zips would require the mesh modifying?
February 2, 2024 at 10:36 AM #2056603I had the same idea:''Can you load JUST the morphs you want then save that character WITH just those morphs?'' You can go a long way with some very simple ideas. I began by editing out morphs from P3D items that were for figures I never use. After a few tries I found I could reduce Cloth CR2 files by more than half. Then I read that one of the factors that slowed loading time was the size of textures, so I reduced the ones I used to a maximimum of 3,000 x 3,000. Thought deeper. V4.2 uses around 29 material zones. I edited the .obj file, saved it, altered the Cr2 path. Reduced it to 19, I could have gone lower. I did go lower with M4.Then I wanted to make pose files. They tended to contain useless information on morphs and empty channels. I took a V4 and made a new version that had no morph entries by editing 'readscript', so none of the morphs or channels load. The figure loads like lightning also only the bone movements were saved in the pose file.It is 1.33Mb. I did all this quite fast. I used 2 free programs, Notepad++ and CR2 editor, the 'seek and destroy' in Notepad++ needs a bit of care. These techniques reduced my runtime to about 25% in MB. With hair figures, take a look at the number of mat zones. Quite often only two are needed and can be edited within Poser. Dimension 3D makes a program 'Morphing Colothes'. This, in conjunction with the CR2 Editor means you can add or remove almost anything to and from V4 into cloth, or from a cloth CR2 into cloth you've made or re-modelled. It also meant that cloth that has dynamic morphs can be used to liven up simpler cloth, Hongyu, 3D-age and Billy-T have amazingly well thought out ideas that will transfer. There are limits. It's not easy to understand why some morphs transfer better than others, for example 'open' morphs on coats need to be done by other means. But it can be done. I use Wings3d to create a 'left' and 'right' group in the cloth because it has a good polygon selector tool. Then I apply a Poser magnet to the group to make the new morph. This has worked on a lot of coats.
