I grew to love G8, but I still believe that Vicky4 clothing, accessories, etc. were way more versatile and original, and were also extremely well made and detailed. If you were looking for a particular outfit from a historical period other than medieval, it was almost guaranteed that you could find something suitable.
Now, whether it's G8 or G9, the outfits and accessories tend to lack imagination. It seems like PA's don't put the same thought into it. It's way harder to find niche items for G8 and G9.
Does anyone else agree?
January 23, 2024 at 3:36 PM #2054979Yes, u right. I recommend OOT historical cloths. They are quite fine.
January 23, 2024 at 4:26 PM #2054983I still use good old Vicky Fourpointtwoplusplus and her HUGE wardrobe. She has a larger and more varied selection of clothing, lingerie, shoes (yum!), jewelry, and accessories than all of the Genesis bimbos put together. Back then, I got the impression that people made stuff as much as for the love of it, vice just to make a buck. She has a line of characters that are excellent and as long as you're not tying her into a pretzel, she bends just fine.
Long live Vicky Four!January 23, 2024 at 5:08 PM #2054991@ethiopia @architector Vicky's wardrobe is exceptional. I find myself more and more clothing my G8 figures in V4 or M4 clothing using clones and 3dl to iray settings, because almost all - with some exceptions - of G8 garments have a sameness about them.
January 23, 2024 at 6:06 PM #2054996Entirely agree.
3D-Age, OOT, Pretty3D & Uzilite V4 clothing was particularly good, & quite well optimised.
🙂
January 23, 2024 at 6:48 PM #2055001There was a creator by the name 'Hongyu' who made delicious items including lingerie that was patterned off of real life items and quite detailed. Bra's had clasps and adjusting bands.
January 23, 2024 at 7:06 PM #2055010January 23, 2024 at 7:44 PM #2055014Not to ruffle the feathers of ANY merchant...I feel that any of the g8+ items are basically remakes of the older V4 items. I use Poser since DS has never worked on my Mac and my PC laptop is just too slow without DS.
Ds is a nice program but I see that the items "weigh" a whole lot more than Poser ones and take an enormous time to render. Art times I am glad I can't use DS but do wish to see others that do use it to get quality items, and clothing that is quicker and original other than remakes. If that makes sense.
January 23, 2024 at 9:23 PM #2055029It is interesting that this has come up now and I do agree there is a definite difference in the effort and quality of items from V4 to G8. Recently however I have personally begun to feel there has been a very distinct drop in not only the quality, imagination and effort being put into products released post G9 including characters.
You only have to look at the prolific number of product releases some vendors are making to realize that the same effort that was put into earlier generations is no longer present, presumably not only as a result of vendor greed but also perhaps pressure to produce items from certain marketplaces.
Like may I find myself using many older items and passing over the new offerings.January 23, 2024 at 9:54 PM #2055034An advantage of Vicky Four is that her morphs only load when you add them so overall load times are quick-as-a-bunny. I chuckle when I read about people waiting decades for Genesis Ate to load, slowed to a glacial crawl because she has to drag a truckload of morphs with her. I do have Genesis Huit but only a few morphs so load times aren't horrible.
January 24, 2024 at 3:24 AM #2055068Also some of the clothing being sold on the big sites are actually ripped from video games and refurbished for Studio/Poser. I've recognized a few, bought one cowboy outfit only to find out it was from a horror cowboy video game. But yes, there are so few quality outfits being sold for the newer generations. And the stuff being sold for G9 are even more lacking in movement morphs, details, etc.
Another gripe I have is that many of them are no longer made so that we can hide certain parts of the outfit or that the outfit is one piece instead of being layered. So instead of a separate shirt and jacket it's one outfit that you cannot hide the surface of the parts you prefer not to use.
Are there any women's outfits that aren't straps or lingerie anymore? Like how many different types of skimpy clothes can there be? It seems like ever day there's another lingerie set with the same look just a different name.If only we could have the creative minds from the V3-M3 or V4-M4 years.
Even the characters are all looking the same, especially the females. Where the great creators at?
I'd be happy if some of these creators updated their outfits from the past and sold them than offered anything new.January 24, 2024 at 3:39 AM #2055069An advantage of Vicky Four is that her morphs only load when you add them so overall load times are quick-as-a-bunny. Use TurboLoader for this. I swear by this. There were some issues but I think the bugs are getting leveled out!
January 24, 2024 at 4:16 PM #2055118@heavensportal, I drop in on the Poser usenet group every so often and see that Vicky Four is still the most popular figure by a long shot. Any references to La Bimbo aren't kind.
Sometimes I wonder if Daz isn't getting some of their stuff made, or partially made, by some 3D sweatshop in Asia that grinds stuff out cheaply and quickly. That's one reason they don't allow a person to contact the artists other then the few who browse the forums.
January 24, 2024 at 5:46 PM #2055146@deadpool209977 .. turboloader is good and does reduce the load times by disabling the morphs for G8 figures, but the problem is that it disables the morphs.. if i want to use a figure for which the morphs are disabled, i can't.. i have to enable the morphs for that figure and then load it..
January 24, 2024 at 7:43 PM #2055171Can you load JUST the morphs you want then save that character WITH just those morphs?
I do that with my favourite Vicky Four girls. I have a couple dozen characters that are saved with certain morphs. -
