Hi guys and gals.
Daz has released this new "DazCentral" to install content, which should be the replacement for DIM.
As far as I've understood, DIM will continue to exist.
Has anyone tried DazCentral yet? Does it allow piracy, or all of this is coming to an end? Thanks in advance for answering!
May 21, 2020 at 7:44 AM #1603512why don't you try yourself ?
why are you so suspicious about piracy ? it's possible but please don't fear the worst it influences the chances of happening 🙂daz central seems to have more opportunities, just that
May 21, 2020 at 8:11 AM #1603517What is "DazCentral" I've never heard of it. Would someone care to explain it and what it does? Is it like that stupid encryption Content thing they have within Daz Studio? That doesn't work, because you cannot use your content unless you are online and connected to Daz -- and some of us have HORRIBLE internet connections, and still, there are tons of people out there with DIAL-UP internet.
So what is DazCentral exactly?

May 21, 2020 at 8:15 AM #1603519Never heard of DazCentral. I've only bought a handful of items, but if I weren't able to pirate the ones I did, those sales would not have happened.
May 21, 2020 at 8:20 AM #1603520It is the latest attempt by Daz to monopolise your content & force you to use it in the way they want you to.
No change for me.
Just like Connect I'll not be going anywhere near it.
The only time I ever use DIM is for installing Beta DSs.
If they remove that & replace it with this new central format, I'll not be bothering with any more Betas.Instead of always trying to monopolise their market, I wish they would concentrate on things that folk are actually wanting & asking for!

"https://www.daz3d.com/dazcentral"May 21, 2020 at 9:04 AM #1603526@Phoernik I won't switch until it'll be stable and I'll know for sure that I'll be able to continue using pirated packages! 🙂
@Legolas18 99,99% of my assets are from Daz Store! I didn't know it breaks DIM. One more reason not to switch then.
@AnjaBear It's basically a new DIM that just got out.
@Cage I understand that. I've actually bought many products, and I believe in supporting the developers. Sometimes I've even bought products I had already pirated because they were very good at the right price.
The problem is that often those assets are heavily overpriced, and you can only look at the store twice a year when massive sales happen. But that's all another speech.
@eelgoo I think it's perfectly normal for them to wanting us to pay for everything!
I was just wondering if they're forcing us in that direction.May 21, 2020 at 9:06 AM #1603527maybe you're right, you can never be too careful.
May 21, 2020 at 9:18 AM #1603529I don't think i will have an use for it, as I like to decide where files go. Don't use the DIM anymore, as I'd rather download whatever I buy from the Product Library and install on my E: drive instead of the C: drive option that DIM does.
Been reading the thread on the forum about it. Kinder interesting.
May 21, 2020 at 9:19 AM #1603530Of course they are trying to force us in that direction, under the guise of making things 'easier' for us.
Connect was there first semi-serious attempt.
This looks like their second.
May 21, 2020 at 10:14 AM #1603547I installed and tried daz central and I do not like it because it does not allow product download for offline product installs, only install, uninstalls and updates. I have two computers with daz installed but only one (by choice) is connected to the internet. The other computer is updated via other ways such as disc or NAS. So if this is an attempt to stop pirating, then there will be collateral damage to those who want control where their product is installed.
May 21, 2020 at 12:04 PM #1603576@Elim I'm surprised by how many people don't use Smart Content! I do, so I definitely prefer to install packages the classic way. It's just too much easier for my workflow. So that I don't find any use in non-smart content products, I never download them, and if in the future they stopped smart-content products, I'd had to switch to buy everything I need 🙁
@Ethiopia Yeah, if we could export easily Daz stuff into Unreal Engine 5, it'd be a whole other story. We'll see what'll happen with Filament.@Kre@tionz Thank you! That'd be no reason in stopping offline installation, if they weren't going to check if you own that product! So that's what I wanted to hear.
I'll stick with DIM until it'll be available. If one day it won't be available anymore, I hope I'll be a billionaire, so that I won't have to worry about their absurd prices!
But, honestly, I think they could already check that. If you take a look at DIM log, it gives you an error when the product doesn't correspond to an order you've made with your account.
Maybe they just tolerate piracy for whatever reason.May 21, 2020 at 12:42 PM #1603580"If you take a look at DIM log, it gives you an error when the product doesn’t correspond to an order you’ve made with your account.
Maybe they just tolerate piracy for whatever reason."Even if Daz check for any product we buy or didn't buy, who's to say that the product wasn't bought on a different account. Daz don't limit how many computers a product can be installed on. So if I have a studio with multiple artists, all using Daz, I will buy just one copy of the product and install it on the other computers.
May 21, 2020 at 1:43 PM #1603583I think DAZ would find that a violation of their terms of service @creationz. I'm pretty sure it's one license per user, not group. If DAZ every gets around to checking licenses of installed content, then I'd just move off of studio and onto blender.
