Skimmed first and last pages, lots of feather fluffling here.

Keeping things simple, ALL that need doing is:

-unpack compressed archive
-delete any offending 'extra' files
-use TOUCH to bulk-blast your desired timestamp into all pertinent EXIF slots in all the files/folders (one step!)
-jam files back into fresh archive

Honestly, all this jazz about borking your system time is overkill, and can lead to unforseen trouble with not a few various background processes. You *really* don't want to do that in cases where say BITS is trying to marshal one of those Windows Update enemas... things can break and BITS is a bitch to fix.

Also, Powershell is one of those tools that can really do horrendous damage with a minimum of user-error. But if you're proficient enough to be comfortable using it safely, you're also probably experienced enough to realize you're cutting daisies with a chainsaw.

Really, the process is simpler that what I've seen proposed... :p

Also... wasn't it Abad that predicted this years ago? I seem to remember a convo about hoping the model mills don't attempt to get smart.

I've used Touch for many many years, it's any hacker's must-have for the toolbox. For exactly this scenario.

Do we have to unpack it first... can we just search the zipped file with WinRar... and if we find the offending file then use your method?

Or can you only find it if it has been unpacked?

Well, I suppose you can, if you're a WinRAR wonk 🙂

But really, for the sake of being thorough, I would definitely unpack as not all metadata may be accessible in-archive. You really want to be sure all files are squeaky clean before re-wrapping the gift-box.

Is Rendo doing the "secret data blob" trick now? Like, junk data that looks like it's part of the DSON but is really superfluous data meant to fingerprint? IDK myself, I haven't made a Rendo purchase since before all this started appearing, I'd love to get a hold of some new untouched samples to compare against my old virgin purchases. A binary diff will show any bs right away.

Please all, use Skippy's tool to detrack the RenderHub and Renderotica files (the DazStore and Renderosity files are still safe):

It can remove the dbf trackers from the RenderHub files, rename the Renderotica PDFs, remove the metadata from them, and then rewrite every timestamp inside any zip or rar (just a few clicks, it's easy to use).
Also, there is a ReadMe inside the pack.

Known bug: Sometimes it only changes the timestamps of the files inside the zip or rar, but skips to change the zip or rar's main timestamp (the time when you downloaded the zip and the file appeared on your PC, this is the time that you see in your file explorer - XYITEM.zip - 2024-10-22 12:34).
To fix this either make sure to check, if the tool modified that timestamp too to a random date or just simply don't use Mega for hosting that file (MegaSync can preserve the file's original main time stamp, BUT the other file hosts can't).

Well this is a first, renderotica have completely blocked me from paying for suspected piracy. I can't find a work around. New account, a VPN, girlfriends card, nothing works. I detracked all my shares too so I'm concered it's something new on the malware PDF date stamps front... Perhaps I missed one though, althought I doubt it.

Strangly the account works, I just can't pay. Something to keep a eye on if they've rumbled our workaround.

What's even more absurd is that if the reason is suspected piracy, then now they left no alternative EXCEPT for that user to pirate from someone else it if he wants it! At least they could have taken the $$$

It's an interesting look at the ways creators can implement tracking to ID pirates. It's something we should be aware of and maybe examine purchased files from time to time.

Any Linux users here? I'm using "touch" to modify all the dates in the assets folder. Problem is I can't go further back than the build time of the kernel. Which is only a few days.
