Another PA Sale at Daz, another round of underperforming-to-old PA stores getting culled.

This year is no different. According to the forums, the following vendors went tits up:

    W.H. Whitney - http://posercontent.com/vendors/wh-whitney/347
    Digital I Designs - http://posercontent.com/vendors/digital-i-designs/762
    Simon3D - http://posercontent.com/vendors/simon-3d/289
    Silencer - http://posercontent.com/vendors/silencer/920
    Davorama - http://posercontent.com/vendors/davorama/1154
    InfinityRain - http://posercontent.com/vendors/infinityrain/663
    3DLust - http://posercontent.com/vendors/3dlust/247
    drakken3d - http://posercontent.com/vendors/drakken3d/597
    Chinchbug- http://posercontent.com/vendors/chinchbug/479
    Jr. PupN'Such - http://posercontent.com/vendors/jr-pupnsuch/1076
    BlackFeather1973 - http://posercontent.com/vendors/blackfeather1973/1374
    Matari3D - http://posercontent.com/vendors/matari3d/1400
    wowie - http://posercontent.com/vendors/wowie/509
The Management (Can't find their catalog for some reason)

In short: Not a good year if you still use Genesis 2. (And I tend to believe 'If you don't have use for it, someone else will')

While I get why vendors are removed, part of me still feels like the material is worth preserving. Especially since, if they're partnered with another PA and that PA is still active, it's removed from the co-PA's store, too. Silencer's store has a lot of vaulted DO items, from the looks of things.

I tend to think there is some kind of legal issue with removing vendors stores/accounts. Because some of those items are listed as "Daz Originals" which were bought outright by Daz so shouldn't be nixed if the vendors store is pulled. There maybe a clause that if an artist doesn't work for Daz for a period of time all content has to be pulled?

Another reason why I try to harvest as much information from the source site to include with my archives as I can. You never know when it might get removed or if the site will disappear (probably not but you never know).

Looks like a lot of old V4 era content. Didn't check them all, but I checked out about half of them and there was no content for any of DAZ's recent models (like the last 5 years). V4 was the true start of DAZ, putting it on the map. But her time has come and gone. I'd expect to see DAZ continue to cull V4 specific content and stores from their herd. V4 will live on as a niche market and might allow Poser to stick around a couple more years, but she's dying out.

Another aspect of it is that vendors might move on in one way or another, volutary or otherwise.
I am not certain, but I rather think the Simon3D guy passed on. 🙁
It is not just Daz that this happens at, of course, & they have to keep their databases optimised, so it is likely they will keep an eye on underperformers, be that in terms of quantity of output or sales.
Ion is another one that has recently disappeared from Dazs store.

On the V4 issue, well hey, she has had a great run.
She has survived her daughter, grandaughter & great grandaughter after all.
There are some very refined characters, a world away from where V4 started out.
My only use for V4 now though is as morph & texture bases for more recent base models.

@eelgoo That is true. I know Syltermermaid recently pulled her stuff from Rendo and later made it free, because her health issues got to be too much for her to continue making product.

Also, wow, Simon3D likely passed on? If that's true, that's really unfortunate. 🙁 His Melody Man stuff, at least until Protozoon came along and Sixus1 made their set, was for the longest time some of the better musical instruments out there.

Ion, at least, can be found at RenderHub.

As for it mostly being V4 content getting culled, that is true. Poser isn't the dominant software on the market like it used to be, and while it still has hold-outs... a lot of the Poser-only people are either getting older and unable to work on things as often as they used to (i.e. Syltermermaid) or have sadly passed on (StudioArtVartanian, Digital-Lion). I think once the older generation of Poser users largely passes in about 5-10 years, the Daz generation will take over and then we'll have people waxing about Genesis 1-8, haha.

    But I digress.

I do think a lot of this stuff is worth saving in some form or another, if only for the artistic aspect of it. And the fact a lot of really good items from the older days still do hold up with a touch of iray shaders here and there. Just because it's not new, doesn't mean it still can't be used, after all.

But then, that's what we do right? I mean, I know that most of us will only collect the things that we want/like but we can preserve the creations and keep them in circulation.

That was the reason I got into torrenting way back.
To keep the quality NLAs available.
I'll admit to being corrupted by the new, shiny that were available though.
That has been a habit I can't bring myself to break. 😉

    🙂

More vanishing vendors from the Daz store:

    J-Cade: http://posercontent.com/vendors/jcade/1496

And while not the whole vendor; apparently, LadyLittlefox's Chip (and Pickles) have vanished from the store as well, though Cookie and Peaches remain.
