Studio 4.10 crashes (no notification or fatal error report, just shuts down) whenever I render a scene with two characters. Scene is Micheal 7 and Victoria 7 in an iray modern bathroom with primitive iray lights. Whenever I take out one character, it renders just fine. Is this a hardware problem?
I render with both CPU and GPU with Optix enabled. My specs are i5 and 1060.
May 27, 2018 at 6:17 AM #619379Try to render with just GPU and see if it crashes.
May 27, 2018 at 7:10 AM #619420There is a memory leak with this version of DS.
You may well be running out of RAM.
This can be especially a problem if you have been using DS for a prolonged time.
I minimise that problem by shuting down DS after each render.HTH

Works pretty well.🙂
May 27, 2018 at 12:57 PM #619781@Ethiopia Daz will render until it reaches one of the 'end' settings is reached.
until max samples, or max time, or convergence. when one of these is reached regardless of the others, Daz will stop. Until none of these are reached, Daz will continue rendering. These settings can be found in the render settings.
P.S. if you turn up your render quality Daz will render longer too but still not past these limiting settings. if you want high quality renders but don't want to take up your time, hit render, go to bed and wake up to your beautiful image.
May 27, 2018 at 1:14 PM #619793@meanpride i had a similar problem. my scene had too much going on for my computer to deal with. i watched the memory (in windows task manager) gets used up, all of my video ram, all of my physical ram, and then all of my virtual ram. when Daz ran out, it crashed. it's not a hardware problem so much as it is a lack of resources problem. that's why your scene will render with one less character. there are fewer resources needed.
there are a few solution. the one i used was to render separate characters (nothing else in scene) and then combine them in photoshop using layers. top layers must be saved as .tiff or .png so that they are transparent where the character is not.
another way is to reduce the load on your computer by using Scene Optimizer with which you can reduce the size op maps or reduce figure geometry etc. it can help in reducing render times as well. i had a busy scene which took 4 hours or more so i reduced the map size and subdivision levels of far away characters and you could not see the difference but the render time dropped to 1 hour 40 minutes!
of course you can do all this without this plug in but it is so much easier.
P.S. Daz will only use you GPU if the scene can fit within the video card's memory. this is one of the reasons we want lots of card ram.
May 30, 2018 at 2:58 PM #623218Thank you for your suggestion of Scene Optimizer. Will give it a try. 🙂
May 31, 2018 at 4:46 PM #624447If your PC has only 8GB of RAM, it's well worth the cost of getting another 8GB.
